    This tutorial video is excellent. It's 9 years old but very applicable for owners of stock M3s from that era. I just hope you still sell the part. Thank you!

    I showed your video to a another owner with the same problem. He repaired his radio using your dismantling guide and nylon screws and nuts instead of metal ones to compress the adhesive and rebuild the broken moulding. His volume control has been working perfectly ever since, so now two of us owe you a beer. Thank you again.

    You sir did an awesome walkthrough. I actually 3D printed the part from Thingiverse. Your skill and video was perfect. I had no problem doing this in 30 minutes, pausing and restarting along the way. This is why youtube is awesome... you are awesome.

    Thanks to your excellent video, I was able to effect a repair of the broken plastic moulding using epoxy resin and through-going machine screws. I removed the broken moulding, and pushed 3/4inch long threaded screws through the mounting holes. Using a small amount of Araldite Rapid, I fitted the broken lugs in position, and compressed the joints by tightening the matching nuts. After warm-curing for about an hour, I removed the nuts and assembled the mounting plate over the ends of the screws using serrated washers and tightened the nuts onto the washers. The screws were a bit too long, so I clipped them down with side cutters, close to the nuts, which further secured the nuts. I reassembled (-did not lose any screws!) and refitted the radio into the car. A year on, the current car owner is using the radio and player every day without any problems.
    My technique will only work where all the fragments of the moulding are retrieved. In this case, I only had two breaks to deal with. I would not have attempted this job without the help of your video.
    Thanks again.

    awesome DIY, where did you learn this?? It seems like you've taken these radios apart many times. Or maybe you just have ample experience with circuit boards. etc. Anyway, top notch instructional!

    GAR: Thank you for these outstanding clear video instructions with useful commentary.
    Did you find the missing loose screw ?

    • @TomasBMW
      @TomasBMW  10 років тому

      Sometimes I find the small screws laying on top of the motherboard but usually they are missing. That is why with my kit I include two new screws with the mounting base.

    I think I got a newer version of this repair kit because the 2 screws that go into the white plastic part are larger than the original ones so I had to drill larger holes into the bracket that holds the switch to the new white plastic piece

    • @CricketAmos
      @CricketAmos 4 роки тому

      They are a little larger, but will still screw in with a little pressure.

    your video is excellent, I want to ask you when you take out the knob I have a problem of dirt on it I have a lot of trouble raising or lowering the volume do you know how to clean it inside or where can I buy the knob

    • @TomasBMW
      @TomasBMW  2 роки тому

      Raising and lowering is a common issue. You must open up the data transmitter and roughen up the disc that rotates inside and tells the radio which way your spinning the knob.

    • @gmhzepeda
      @gmhzepeda 2 роки тому

      @@TomasBMW the potentiometer its dirty
      how can i clean?

    • @TomasBMW
      @TomasBMW  2 роки тому

      @@gmhzepeda Yes you have to crack it open. Its not dirty but polished from use over the years and the contacts dont pick up signal. You have to score up the disc so that it picks up signal again. Only do this if your confident opening up that small potentiometer. If its broken beyond repair they dont sell this style design with the correct shaft size, you would have to take one from another parts radio.

    Thank you great video.I think this look ok for a novice to attempt. Better than $500. I am trying to find the plastic anchor part so it can be replaced. Do you know its part no and where I can get it from? Im in Australia.

    • @TomasBMW
      @TomasBMW  10 років тому

      The New plastic base is available at www.germanautorecycling.com.
      I designed the part over a period of a couple months with drafters and manufactures. So you will not find it anywhere else. I can ship it to Australia!

    Can you please tell me what all the sizes of the drivers I need to get for this job to be completed? I bought the replacement piece but having hard time turning the screws. I’m afraid that I might have already stripped one of the bolts.

    Upon doing this today (thanks for the diy!!) my lcd display backlight is no longer working, though the volume knob/button works now (the screen does work, it is just extremely dim). Funny thing is, before replacing the broken bracket, the backlight would flicker on and off if I rotated the volume knob, like there was a contact problem somewhere. Now though the back light won't turn on again.
    Any thoughts? I know the backlight/bulb works as it functioned before the install. Do you guys know how I can fix this??
    Thanks

      Only thing that comes to mind is make sure that the aluminum backing isn't bent or warped in a way which could cause unnecessary grounding to the board if it touches the right spot. Also make sure the ribbon connection going from the front face to the main board is pressed in correctly and doesn't have a folded contact stripe.

      +BavTek Inc. Thanks for the reply! Funny enough, the issue seemed to resolve it self when I turned the radio off and on while holding the mode button. I heard this would put it in service mode, and right when I did it the backlight fired up. Radio/knob is working well now (Y)

    By the time you do that, may as well fit a nice Pioneer system.

    • @TomasBMW
      @TomasBMW  10 років тому

      True, but Aftermarket systems though with more features, don't look right.

    • @juandef4115
      @juandef4115 10 років тому

      GermanAutoRecycling Hmm.. Pioneer have several which have amber lights and now blend in. I suppose the finish is too glossy though still. However, Nakamichi have a good of OEM looking head units. A becker unit is good. However, I make good money online by fitting the Rover 75 head units into e46 vehicles. They blend in perfectly and are excellent quality too!

    Hi, how can I clean the laser ? Where is it ?

    • @TomasBMW
      @TomasBMW  10 років тому

      The laser is inside of the Drive Mechanism. I would only lightly clean it if you suspect its dirty. But be vey careful since the laser eye is balancing and if you press it too hard can throw it off permanently.
