I knew a guy who had E36 sedan with M50B25 (stock pistons, forge conrods, saab injectors, holset, piggy-back) with turbo. We were young and, 400hp was like spaceship fast 20 years ago.
i mean 400 hp is still spaceship fast for me. My fastest car that i drive right now is 125 hp opel (we are too poor in our country to afford fast cars)
cars of that era felt crazy fast with 300-400 hp. good times :) had a e28 budget turbo build with 250hp, 518 so it was the old m10 engine. was very fun to drive and felt absolutely wild. my current rs3 is really fast, but its just so refined and effortless so feels like nothing when driving it xD
@@monkeymouse1403 They handle speed very well. All German cars are made to perform well on the Autobahn. Although not 300+ for an old 3-series of course.
@@swansmeisterwell yeah its from the 80s why would it compare to todays fast, its a wild machine that someone hand built, its faster than your average e30
@@swansmeister it can be slow as shit. It is RAW. And when you have a RAW powa in a car it gives you an experience that you jsut cant get in any hypercar
Oh sweet memorys. My brother in law had an E30 with an M3 evo from a E36 with Debilas housing... it was terrorfying back then ...It sounded like a rocket ship :D :D
That clutch work hurt me to watch. Gotta have a very sensitive foot to feel such a small catch point and hold those rpms. That was like a 16 year old using a road clutch for the first time.... ouch
Most likely a 6 blade 228mm sintered clutch. You basically cannot slip it. It's on or off. There are better choices available, as long as you also use the right flywheel and gearbox.
@@jackdoe3889 That's completely untrue. You can slip an f1 clutch if you like. Like I said, you gotta have a very sensitive foot because the throw to slip is literally a couple of centimeters which is extremely difficult to learn how to do, but you pick it up pretty quickly once you get the hang of it. I actually roll my foot at my ankle slowly lifting my big toe off the pedal almost one toe at a time for first gear starts, then once you're going it doesn't really matter
@@CarbonSickle What does a F1 clutch have to do with this? This is single disk, F1 use multi-disk clutches. Only street car I know to have that is a Porsche Carrera GT. If not mistaken, it's a 184mm Sachs one. The M3 E30 Group A rally car I was servicing back in the days had just the kind of clutch I mentioned. Many factors influence the clutch travel, but the master and slave clutch cylinders on E30 are all the same. The bite point is millimeters, not cm on those. The friction material does not want to slip and causes the kind of vibration and jitter you saw on this video. I do not know what car or clutch you have, but in case of BMW E30 I know exactly what I am talking about.
@@jackdoe3889 your focusing far too micro on a macro comment. I don't care if you personally manufactured and installed the clutch in this specific car, my point was he doesn't know what he's doing, further exacerbated by the downshift over reving the engine and then immediately matting the throttle. You'd get a little more credit if I didn't watch him slip the clutch later on in this very video as he slowly got the hang of it. Clutches slip. All of them. That's the point of a clutch. Obviously...
@@CarbonSickle You came out claiming what I wrote is "completely untrue". I wrote it to explain why a specific type of clutch reacts like that if you try to slip it. I know what I am talking about and you clearly do not. Sintered clutches are not meant to be slipped. They are used in racing applications, such as rallies where there is no need to slip the clutch. The point of such a clutch is explicitly NOT to slip, contrary to your claim. It is not very constructive to approach others by calling their statements "completely untrue" when your own knowledge of the subject is poor. 400 hp in something as light as a e36 is still fast no matter what you drive

Definitely needs a 6th gear, thats always the problem with these older cars :D
Needs a ZF8
Too close ratio. Need longer ratio for the engine.
Ratios of a k20 with a longer FD would be ideal
It needs a rear gear of 3 or lower.
Needs a transmission from a Diesel
The speedo moves like a rev counter, i like it a lot 😅
It shows once weight is taken out of the equation 500 bhp is the perfect amount for a road car. I bet the e30 keeps up with modern super cars
racing clutch on the road is crazy
Makes all the right noises🤩 With a taller gearing 300+ km/h should not be a problem.
Those cars handle like trucks at speed, would be a white knuckle drive at 300+.
