    Nicely done Brother! Nice to have spare working parts around just in case.

      Grampie's Workshop wanted me to replace the whole vehicle and I almost did LOL But this did fix it. Next time so much as a fuse blows I'm taking his advice! haha Thanks for watching, Doug!

    How's she goin'? Well that turned out to be a pretty easy repair. I was thinking, "Windshield wipers, well lets just get a new vehicle, it'll be easier and cheaper." LOL That rack came out pretty easy and even though the orientation was wrong the first time, it worked really well. Nice fix. Pat yourself on the back buddy!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!!

      Lucky that I had a spare on hand. Never throw anything away, right? Yes, sometimes a new vehicle is cheaper than a repair, or so it seems. I always buy car batteries now that have a handle on them in case my old vehicle quits on the road somewhere. That way I can hitchhike home with the battery and leave the old wreck to rust on the roadside. LOL

    Nice fix.. Sometimes it can also be the linkage where the pivot shaft is.. Over time that part of the linkage trades metal and it starts to bind up..

      I've had the pivot problem on another vehicle. In fact, the first evening I took my, then, new girlfriend on a date in my truck (a chevy at the time), the wipers popped off the pivot in a torrential downpour of rain and we were stuck on the side of a busy highway until the rain stopped. I sure knew how to impress the chicks!! Hahaha

    Great repair. It looks like they thought about mainenance when they built the truck, it did not look too bad to get to the motor

      Yes, it was pretty easy to access. Some wiper motors are more difficult. I was so convinced that the problem was low voltage but it wasn't. The wipers were acting identical to how they respond to low battery voltage. Handy to have spare to put in there. Thanks for watching. You'll know this fix when it comes along someday on one of your vehicles.

    Not the problem on our 91 F600 dump truck. Replaced the motor and still does the same thing. They run slow as hell for a few minutes then stop and to restart the switch has to be turned off and on. I don't see any binding, they move freely. I'm replacing the switch this week to see if that's the cause. The old wiper motor looked like it was retrieved from the ocean so I thought that was the problem.

      Sorry to hear that. Slow wipers could be the result of: Worn motor, low battery charge, loose connections, worn linkage, defective switch, worn bushings, wiper blade friction against glass (worn blades). Good luck. Let me know what you find.

      @@EverydayProjects I just replaced the wiper switch and that fixed it. Must not have been allowing full power to go to the motor or something. Anyway, thanks for the vid anyway.

    I wonder if the grease in the old gearbox is petrified. If you can, maybe get it apart and see if you can refresh it somehow. Probably non-serviceable but you're good at stuff!

      It could be jammed up somehow, maybe grease, maybe worn out bearings, maybe electrical windings? I had one on hand from a Ford Escape that had the same part number so I'm happy with that. When I get a moment perhaps I'll open up the old motor for a look--could make for an interesting video. Thanks for stopping in.

    Just giving it a birthday can help ( pull down, clean & re-greased ), usually hits the spot, a good spray wd40 into the guts of the motor can’t hurt if you don’t dis-assemble that component also.

    How did you know that it was caused by a bad fuse?

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects  Рік тому +1

      It wasn't caused by a bad fuse, actually. I checked the fuse and found it to be ok. That led me to look elsewhere. The motor was failing, in fact, and I (luckily) had a spare.
