    I replaced my carb, fuel line and filter, spark plug, and air filter assembly. Probably same kit you have. Carb works fine. Hose was easier to replace than my Craftsman. Still need to do a little adjusting for it to run perfect. At least it starts now.

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects 5 годин тому

      @@robertlehrman5832 Glad to hear you got it going. Sometimes, the carb kits come with an adjustment tool that fits the mixture screws. The low speed jet keeps the saw running at idle and works along with the throttle adjustment screw. Adjust a warm saw while running until it idles smooth. The high speed jet manages the fuel at full throttle. Adjust it while holding the throttle open until it does not bog down and runs at full throttle without bogging. Sometimes better and safer to remove the chain first. Good luck😀

      @@Kro_man_tx I took a look online, just now and had a difficult time finding the exact testing specs for your coil. I did find them in my Haynes Manual for my F-150 when I made the video. @EverydayProjects - thanks. Really just trying to chase down this one issue so we can sell this car. I don't want to spend money on manuals. I don't like firing the parts cannon, but I went ahead and ordered a coil pack, they are reasonably priced even right from Hyundai/Kia. I suspect it has gone bad because the plugs and wires were replaced less than 30k ago.

    I'm getting a loud rattling noise within my engine the last couple of days. Yesterday the check engine light came on. I was getting P0340 and a P0344 code which are camshaft position sensor codes. I swapped the bank 1 and bank 2 sensors to see if it was actually a sensor tripping the code. Both times the codes were coming from bank 1, so I'm assuming it is not the actual sensor. Could these bolts coming loose and /or breaking trip the codes and cause the rattling noise?

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects День тому

      It's difficult to diagnose a problem without seeing the vehicle but my advice would be to park it. A failing camshaft position sensor can cause rough idle and other performance issues that may appear as a noise. You may have other issues but since you have the code, verified by switching bank 1 to bank 2, I'd get a new sensor and try that. The bolts do come loose sometimes, but would not necessarily result in a code for the sensor. That said, the camshaft would have to be rattling around quite a bit to set off a code (if it was from loose cap bolts). Removing the valve covers and doing a check of the bolts will give you peace of mind and may eliminate them a s a cause/symptom. It's not a huge job, and can be completed in an afternoon. Sorry that I can't be more specific, but the one thing I'd do for sure is stop driving the vehicle until you sort it out. All the best!!

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects День тому

      I just thought of something else. The timing chain could be slack/worn but usually, you'd get another code for the crankshaft position sensor. Start with the easy stuff and see if a sensor change will do it. A loud rattling can be the sound of many internal engine issues: worn/jumped timing chain, connecting rod bearing failure, loose camshafts or worn camshaft bushings, dropped valve, etc, but since you're getting the code for the camshaft sensor, I'd look at that first. Since these engines sometimes have loose camshaft cap bolts, it would be prudent to have a look before assuming the worst. Good luck!

    Excellent Demo. Thank you. I will still get our expert mechanics to do the rivets - but at least I know what they are doing and why it will be a good fix. In a heavy storm, I drove through 2 inches of water at 50mph. (Not a safe thing to do). Car kept in straight line. But the fender liners got pulled out by the water pressure. Some people think that if they can beat the F*** out of a lock and it breaks than it's a joke. A lock is nothing more than a deterrent. This just happens to be an example of a cheaper deterrent. Nevertheless... A thief who chooses to draw attention to themselves with some of the methods mentioned here such as shooting, and beating the cr@p out of a lock is both a moron and terrible thief. Most smart thieves would just assume scout out a target without a host of deterrents and most of those crimes of opportunity don't involve getting around any. Ultimately, you need to ask yourself... would it make you feel better to have some protection or to just give your sh*t away?

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects 4 дні тому

      A lock, as they say, is for an honest person. They may act as a deterrent but better is to protect your trailer by storing indoors or off the street. Not everyone has those options. Someone wrote that in the UK, thieves now carry a hitch with hooks and chain that they just attach to a trailer's "A" frame, and to the ball on their vehicle and drive away. That's a theft that no lock will prevent. I guess as long as there are trailers and people who steal trailers, the controversy of how best to keep our stuff safe, will rage on. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Yes, the cores get sent back and rebuilt. Many times, the core charge is very high (like half the cost again of the caliper) so you're sure to bring it back for the money. Sometimes though, I see brand-new calipers that have no core or return. Rebuilt originals can go through many cycles and live on for years in different vehicles. That's recycling at its finest!

      It's known as annealing and the theory is that even old, compressed copper washers can be revitalized by heating. Some quench them immediately by tossing them into cold water but the effect is the same whether cooled immediately or allowed to burn your finger on installation LOL

      I digested the NEC code book and also bought a condensed version of it for ready-reference. It was indeed a lot of planning and ordering of bits and pieces. I made sure to include plenty of options for lighting too with dimmers and three-way switches throughout. Plus I wired the crawl space and attic! There are shielded, glass globe industrial lights in both of those spaces plus a couple or receptacles. Nothing worse than crawling around in the attic without proper lighting. Oh...and I removed all the old insulation up there and vacuumed out all the dirt and debris, wired the entire attic in BX (AC90) so that a misplaced step wouldn't be on loomex. Then re-insulated with rockwool. Then there was all the plumbing! Yes...I think it made me a little strange LOL

    The cap was leaking, it may test good now, but it's time to get a spare cap. There are two ways to see a bad cap, the tester as you showed, and the other is a leaking cap, and yours is leaking. Take note of the deposits around the edge, it's working now, but it won't work very soon. Capacitors are considered consumables, they don't last forever. Mine just quit, it shows a bubbled up disk, the little white spot between contacts, if it's flat, it's good, if it's bubbled up it's bad.

      @@zilasmedz9083 I have the 2.4T engine and they do make a sound that sounds like it could be the lifters, but it's a normal sound usually. I posted a SHORT of the exact noise. Look for it under the SHORTs tab at the top of my channel. One thing about the oil. Volvo recommends Castrol, so try using Castrol Edge full synthetic 5W30 and a good quality oil filter. @@EverydayProjects thank you so much. I just watched you short. I just thought it was really loud mine. You can also hear it when you accelerate inside the car a little bit. I could hear it became louder when you came closer to the valve cover. Same as mine. I was thinking maybe cleaning the oil pan and give it some new oil and a bosch filter. I have been reading that it is a comon problem with that. Like you are doing in the video with the o ring sealings at the oil pick up and the rest of the o rings. So maybe chance them and clean the oil pan. And some new oil and filter. I just did the glove test. It sucked it in. So im glad thats ok

      @@zilasmedz9083 There are o-rings on the pan flange that need replacing. If they are flattened or defective, they can result is lower oil pressure reaching the top of the engine. Yes, that's a common problem. Dropping the pan and cleaning it all out isn't too difficult because these pans don't have anything in the way beneath them. I show the o-ring change in one of my videos too.

      This was a nightmare rebuild! If you watch the suggested video, at the top of this one, you can see the shape this shack was in when I came along. It had been for sale for several years and nobody would go near it, but they hadn't met a guy named Craig yet, LOL Sometimes, I've regretted stepping foot in the door, but now that it's 99 % finished (just some trim and cupboard doors missing), it is a fine little house. It was 2008 when I had the (fortune?/misfortune?) to stumble upon this place and it was many years of work. Crawling around under it to dig out the footings and posts to change rotten floor joists was just one of the many joys! It needed everything: new beams and supports, new roof, all new windows and doors plus what you are seeing in this video. It was done at a time before I was on UA-cam but I recently discovered a whole bunch of videos and photos that I made during the renovation, so some of them will be shared here. Would I do it again?----absolutely Not! (There's that "F" word again) But what is done is done. And it's made a home for us.

    These were the best boats ever, 2nd to none. A long time ago I was a fitter working on them at Devonport dockyard, Plymouth U.K. Went sea trials on Otus. Lotta good memories. Smashing lads to be around & work with, second to none too! Later on when the RN was decommissionig them, I believe Canada from memory had 3 boats we had previously refitted at Devonport (for spares?) Osiris, Olympus & Oberon. All scrapped in Canada? Great memory jerking vid, thank you. With everything in its place.

      In the late 80s, I also worked as a fitter on these submarines at the navy dockyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There were three of them, renamed Ojibwa, Okanagan and Onandaga. These are the three subs you mentioned, from the Royal Navy. On a vacation into Quebec, many years later, I toured the sub in the video, that is now a permanent museum in Rimouski. The tour brought back many memories for me too. Cheers!

      @@EverydayProjects aha that sorts that out then, thank you. Olympus had new fin plating & framework on her last refit. She had previously in the 70’s? come up under a trawler somewhere up north & bent her fin. At Devonport they took the fin off Cachalot (an old P boat) & fitted that. 8yrs later the steelwork was rotting out, hence the reskin etc. 3/8” aluminium & they had to find an old caulker who knew how to put down aluminium rivets. Twas all very noisy for a while. Remember Cachalot sitting out on the Tamar finless waiting for scrap & I seem to remember she was sunk somewhere locally off Plymouth for dive rescue etc training. Oberon & Osiris were super ‘O’s SS 22 upgraded for work in shady areas! Olympus remained as an as built SS 09, different boat inside (less kit). They trialed stern tube removal on one boat but had probs with shaft alignment & had to stiffen out 7MBT. Henceforth tubes were just blanked off!

      Thanks, Nev. It sure was a lot of work. This old house was so bad, and rotten that nobody would buy it...until I did. I have a joke about the house that everything needed replacement except the hot water cylinder. It had a lovely hot water cylinder but the rest had to go! At this point in the renovation, I had completed the replacement of most of the floor joists and supports under the house so that it was solid and level again. It was tipped over and the supports were rotten when I first bought it. I spent a very long time under it, in the crawl space with jacks and tools to get it back on an even keel. Also. I see from the beginning, that the exterior had been sided new and all the windows and doors had been replaced. This was the home-stretch portion with only the drywall and plastering left to do. Thanks for commenting. I always appreciate you watching! Take Care!

      I digested the electrical code very thoroughly when doing this work. In BC, a homeowner can wire their own home under permit. This was filmed in 2019 just prior to the electrical inspector's visit. This particular foam is colored such so that the inspector can see that it's there. It's designed to slow the spread of fire by eliminating cracks and air passage between studs inside a wall. The deer are regular visitors and we are so used to them (and they of us) that I can walk up to the shed and be within 12 feet of them bedded down and all I get is a glance. Always appreciate your comments, Doug. All the best to you!

      This was 5 years ago and I've since finished (most of) the house. The deer are regular features in our backyard, some showing up year after year for a carrot or an apple. The females bring their young here and we'll often see them bedded down near our shed. Not as much fun as the raccoons you have, Steve, but they'll have to do.

    The problem with your saw was the diaphragm. no need for a whole new carb

    • @EverydayProjects
      @EverydayProjects 15 днів тому

      Dear Headcheese, You're partially right. A diaphram most likely would have remedied much of the problem, but it wouldn't clean out the small passages throughout the carb. Swapping out the whole carb is fast and the original can later be rebuilt properly (with a thorough cleaning, new diaphram and gaskets). I plan on disassembling the original and placing it in an ultrasonic cleaner then rebuilding with new parts. These videos aren't a one size-fits all solution, just one of many ways to get the saw up and running quickly. Thanks for your comment and input. All the best! Craig
