In today's video, I repair a vacuum leak found by a smoke test performed in Part 1. Smoke machines pinpoint vacuum leaks in a car's intake system by introducing fine smoke under light pressure to the intake manifold. Any breaks in rubber hoses or components are easily discovered when smoke escapes through the damaged part. LINK TO PART ONE: ua-cam.com/video/Y_CGyo-CB4g/v-deo.html .................

Did you never figure out the problems and what it was
The rods have a lot of side play. Not enough to cause a big problem right away but a sign of wear. I dropped the pan for a look and could push the rods back and forth on the crank journals. On the same day, I dropped the pan on another Volvo (I was swapping the pans) and I noticed the other engine was tighter.
Just picked one of these up for $20. What a great little unit.
$20. Good Score!
How's she goin'? I was surprised to learn that the noise got worse when that piece fell off your car. It must have to do with the volume of expanded exhaust gases escaping form the engine exhaust without having to go through the typical damping and noise reducing channels inside that piece of metal that fell off. Go figure. This was a pretty nice repair though and a good tip about using the right sized pipe clamp. Take 'er easy!!
I, for one, am amazed at how a muffler works. With just a few obstacles presented in the exhaust flow, the sound is greatly reduced. But one question remains: Where does the sound go? It was there and then when you add a muffler it is not. Where did it go? This is a question best mulled over while sitting on the john, and not answered in haste. Let me know what you come up with after a few sessions on the porcelain.
60 to onr fuel mixture is very lean , recomend 40 ton one , i v'e had a tree business fo over 50 years, your saw neds more oil
Haven't seen Oscar yet at the local Tim's got to see if he is there, hope you had a rocking day.
November 2024 in Vancouver British Columbia is where this was. The downtown has many environmental bylaws. This was to encourage recycling. It would be fun to see them spring up in more places
Is it true that a baloney can fly, but a fly can't baloney?
Yes. You have obviously done your homework. Baloney are still wild and free and even though there is no video of baloney actually flying, we know it happens, because how did baloney get to Hawaii? It's always great to have deep thinkers here on the channel. Welcome Onboard!
@@EverydayProjects Yes and they can swim too. One time someone stole a 10 pound baloney from my father. The baloney escaped into the ocean. The following morning a fisherman found the baloney in his cod trap 4 miles away.
@@EverydayProjects Thanks...I have only tasted it once when I was rabbit catching with a buddy. Believe it or not, he caught one in a snare. We took the gut out and cooked the rest over an open fire. It tasted a little blah but I guess that was because we had no catchup.
@@ErnestWarren-zn6ph The mistake was in the gutting. You see, baloney should be eaten whole-guts and all. The innards are where all the flavor is. You'll know this for next time!
@Yes, I heard that story too. It happened out at Tall Story point.
Thanks for sharing Craig , every time I watch one of your videos i learn something , thanks from the windy northern peninsula of Newfoundland ,,
Thank you my friend! Comments like this make all the work producing videos worthwhile. When I drove through your part of the country, many years ago, it was summer and the weather was nice but I've heard of the bitter winter weather up there. I hope you are staying warm and healthy! All the best!
Hey young fellow, dont you throw away that old clamp! Thats still good 20 years from now you might need that lol. That went craig lot easier then it would be here but i suppose you paid your dues so all good.
Get your eyes off the old clamp! It is already locked in my shed for a future project. I always appreciate your keen observations and comments.
You could have just turned up the radio if ya didn't want to hear that awful noise and saved yourself some money. That did go pretty smoothly Craig, nice job.
Yes, I drove home with the tunes cranked up full! I want to thank you for your suggestions and ideas every time. It seems we think alike. I especially liked the one when you suggested I create a bunk bed on the rooftop of my house so that I wouldn't need a ladder to clean my chimney!
@EverydayProjects can ya get a fridge next to those beds?
@@OpenAirAdventure Eventually, when I digest all your great advice, I'll have my own little cabin to live in up on the roof. How can I ever thank you?
@EverydayProjects it was nothing. You're welcome.
Good diagnosing! 🤣 Good call on the clamp👍 I have seen it a million times people say fak it i'm putting it on! See ya Craig✌
Clamp size is important. I've made that mistake myself. In fact, all of my life lessons were learned the hard way with skinned knuckles and a dented ego. LMAO Thanks for watching, Marc!
Only here Craig for the Frankenstein music 🎵🎶 my favorite! Craig you already no I'm a established welder call me next time!😂 2.25 that's a small 🍩😅 By the way nice and neat job keep that Volvo rolling! Miles?
The next time I need a welder, I'll be right on your doorstep looking for some help! The size of the clamp is important and it is about the size of a regular jelly doughnut. The Volvo has 208,000 miles. I replaced the head a few years ago and it is running well. Very comfortable seats too! I paid $425 for this car because the engine needed work and I have fixed a lot of it so far. It's old but very nice (Just like me!)
@EverydayProjects I loved the older models had friend with one and we road that car to hell and back and it didn't miss a BEAT 💯
@@bigsonslawncare Volvos need a lot of work but they are much-loved by their owners. They are built like a tank and said to be one of the safest cars on the road. The older ones were made in Sweden but the new ones are being made in China, and the quality has slipped.
Just like down town eh 👍
Not sure what that big metal thing was but I'm happier now without it.
That looks like a good way to stop the noise 🙂 Great job fitting the new muffler and it was good the pipe it connected to was not rusted out
The noise is almost non existent now when driving down the road. And when the car is sitting overnight at home it is Totally quiet!!! A successful repair, I'd say.
Hi Craig, another good video, that was surprising the noise stopped after fitting that 👍👍
The noise stopped almost completely after this. I don't know what that Big metal part was but it seems to have helped. Always nice to hear from you my friend! I hope you are doing well! Best wishes as Always!
Thanks so much for this! I've watched it 3 times now and going to do mine tomorrow!
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I hope it works out for you. If you look on the homepage for my channel, there is a tab labelled "Playlists." In there, are all the videos I've made about the 580CK including the installation of the pump and the journey to first start of the engine. Thank you so much for watching my videos!
have you dismantled the filter basket on the top ? i imagine if you didn't and the filter happened to be dirty, it wouldn't flow good
Interest. Nice explanation
Thanks Robert! These are the machines that a hotel would use to clear cigarette smoke from a room. They're handy and inexpensive for removing smoke, mold, and bacteria. Thanks for watching.
What does the EPA say about ozone generators?
The regulations are that they should be used only intermittently and never used in an occupied space (No people, pets or plants in the room). They are effective in killing mold, mildew, bacteria and viruses and in the elimination of unpleasant odors like smoke. They must be used with abundant caution and safety procedures. There is some ongoing controversy about "air cleaners" that use ozone-generating technology. As a maintenance tool, used carefully and infrequently, they seem to be safe.
PARTY TIME!! So back in the 80's when everyone was freeking out about the ozone layer, all we needed to do is plug in one of those black boxes?🤣 Thanks for sharing Craig✌
There is a high voltage demand per amount of ozone created so replacing ozone in the stratosphere would take more energy to produce artificially than we could make. Naturally occurring ozone is destroyed by chlorine and other elements, some of which are found it refrigerants and other processes. When released into the upper atmosphere, for example, 1 chlorine atom can destroy 100,000 ozone molecules before being exhausted. Stratospheric ozone acts as a shield for the earth from the sun's radiation. Ozone is a strong oxidizer that reacts with many substances to neutralize bacteria, viruses, mold and unpleasant odors. That's their practical use in machines like this.
@@EverydayProjects Well we certainly can all use a little practicle use Craig👍
@ They're great for removing moldy smells. You're lucky to live in the cold north because it is dry. On the west coast, it is damp, and while I can get around in a Speedo most days, cars get moldy.
A first for me , very interesting Craig.
Come on in, Steve, the water's warm.
How's she goin'? Interesting video Craig. But I really liked all the pix and cardboard illustrations you had. A lot of work gone into this clip. Thanks and a good warning for us too!! Take care!!
This video is the product of actual life experience. I've had moldy cars and some of those relationships!
There are a few unstable atoms in our town. I didn't know these machines existed, that was pretty cool. Learned something.
I can speak from experience when I say that I know, first hand, about unstable molecules and the Free atoms that are ready to jump into a party anywhere, destroying everything! LMAO You must have heard that I divorced Ozone several years ago. LMAO
This is interesting, I did not know about these and I certainly did not know how they worked. Thanks
There is one clip that I forgot to add and it explains that the free oxygen atoms act as an oxidizer to break the cell wall of bacteria, mold, mildew and viruses. That's how it kills them. In the case of smoke and odor, the oxidizer changes the chemical composition of the smoke itself and renders it into other compounds. The new compounds are different from the original compound and don't smell like smoke (or odor), which is the desired effect. Maybe in a future video I will delve into the chemistry a bit more. Always nice to have you and the cameraman along for the ride!
Often wondered if they work, thanks craig
Ozone generators work very well. The truck was really smelling moldy after several months of sitting and the treatment killed all of the smell. The mold has disappeared and the truck is as fresh and clean inside now as if it never had mold. Thanks for watching.
Well that’s neat. Never heard of one of those.
They work great, Noel. About $100 and they last for years. Out west, there is a lot of mold because of the damp, coastal climate. These machines have saved many a car or home over the years. They are also what Hotels use to rid a room of cigarette smoke.
Well thanks Craig. Same climate here. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
Hi Craig, got me there when i seen the thumbnail i thought you and your wife had been out partying 🤣🤣
I divorced Ozone several years ago. She was never home. HaHaHa Nice to hear from you, Nev!
Hello
Thx bro and God bless u for the video
Thanks🙂
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I assume you can do the same for a traditional split whole home heat pump too.
Yes, that's right, so long as the outdoor unit is the condenser.
Good one 👍
I notice you have an analogue gauge on the vacuum pump - can you get analogues that read low microns like a digital vacuum gauge?
A digital micron gauge is better but technicians have used analog gauges for years with success. A very small leak will bring the analog gauge needle up out of a vacuum (or move it up towards zero after a short decay test). Another leak-testing method is using pressurized nitrogen. Professional installers most often use both.
When my mini was installed the installer did the nut tightening by feel, but you could tell he put 100% of his effort to torque the bolts down... the unit never leaked for years.... is the snug approach effective for the long term?
I've used the torque method before and found that the applied force to tighten the nuts is probably somewhat less than hand tightening, but it's hard to guess. I've had good luck by making sure the flare on the copper pipes are very good and at 45 degrees, not 37 as a regular pipe flaring tool makes. A dedicated HVAC eccentric flaring tool is needed to make the 45 degree flares (Amazon has them), that plus a generous coating of Nylog Blue sealant on the face and seat of the flare and moderate but not extreme hand tightening hasn't let me down. If in doubt, hire a technician, as I always say.
Of course it is. You don't need a torque wrench to torque something! (to tighten something).
@ Sorry Tom, but there is a specific torque for each of the line nuts on a refrigeration system. When you tighten with a torque wrench, you get consistent tightening (not too much and not too little) and that is critical so that the fittings don't get over tightened or left too loose. HVAC technicians have available to them a variety of torque wrenches designed for just that purpose.
@@EverydayProjects the point I was trying to make is if you have good feel things you don't need a torque wrench to tell you what is too tight or too loose. Nice video anyway!
@@tomgrant6563 Yes. Agreed. Have a good day.
How's she goin'? This is a very timely video Craig. The heat pump I took from the camp and installed in the shop is not working too good. It keeps frosting up. It could be low on coolant but it could be something else too and since it's 15 years old I decided to get a new unit. I ordered a Senville Aura 12 000 BTU. So when it comes I'll be (or should I say my son Derek will be) decommissioning the old Daikin and then commissioning the new Senville. I will no doubt be referring to this video again!! LOL Thanks and take 'er easy!
The Aura, arctic series is the right choice. My strongest caution is to keep both the valves closed on the outdoor unit every time you hook up or disconnect the gauges. It only takes a few more seconds, but if there is a leak at the fitting you'll see it immediately when you crack open the valve afterwards. If you instead, hook up or disconnect the gauges when the valves are wide open, you could lose a significant amount of refrigerant before you can crank the valves closed. Senville units are great and you'll be happy with this heat pump, I'm sure.
@@EverydayProjects I was researching Senville units and my son has done a lot of work with them. He says they are pretty much the same as Mitsubishi and Fujitsu and I like a lot of the features the Senville has that other more expensive units don't have. Senville have great pricing and by the looks of the reviews, both positive and negative, they are good units with great customer and tech support.
@ They're good for a do-it-yourself install. It voids the warranty but if you look at the warranty, all of the work to qualify for it has to be performed by a licensed technician at your own expense, plus the warranty is for parts only, that you must pay the shipping. When you add it all up, the money saved by doing the install yourself outweighs the tech costs by far, and parts are still available on their website for the do-it-yoursefer anyway.
@@EverydayProjects That's what my son Derek said. He has contacted them before and has even gotten parts for free due to his keen ability to extract blood from a stone. I think he takes after his mom!! LOL
I certainly learned some stuff about heat pumps! A job well done Craig✌
They are the future of home heating and cooling. Becoming very popular even in cold climates.
This was interesting, I do not know anything about these systems but it was good to follow what you were doing and you explained the process very well
Mini-Split ac/heating systems are really getting popular. I like their versatility and practicality. And, they are coming down in price such that they are within reach of almost any homeowner.
Love your diagrams! Nice to see how the operation works and thanks for sharing. Cheers
Thanks, Mike. Cardboard drawings are becoming my trademark, it seems. Thanks for watching.
Interesting stuff , I've never operated one but they seem to be more popular than ever.
Heat pumps are all the rage....they can heat and cool with one unit. It used to be that air conditioning was a rich man's device but they are getting very affordable now. Plus, the Arctic Heat Pumps, as most new ones are called, will extract heat energy from cold outside air to heat a home in winter. They'll work down to about -20C!
Morning Craig. Another fine job by the man of many talents.
Thanks, Kenny! I moved this unit on Wednesday and thought to film and share the process.
Great job as always Craig! I don’t believe there’s a diy job that you can’t do Brother! 👊🏻
Thanks, Doug. I like working with heat pumps-they are a miracle of science!

Thanks, Nev. Nice to see you! I like these units because they both heat and cool from one unit. Very versatile.
Did you leave a trail of suds in the rain lol,
Around here, we get so much rain that a few bubbles wouldn't be noticed. Soap really find leaks though. It's my go-to for leak-finding!
I never did this but you really did a good job letting me know how its done, nice indeed.
Hey, Thanks very much for the kind comment and for watching. I rebuilt this alternator a few years ago and it is still performing perfectly. The blue paint is the secret formula!
@EverydayProjects lol

@@RRUS85 look on inspectapedia dot com and look for water pump wiring and troubleshooting repair. There is a long article with lots of information. If the breaker keeps tripping, check the motor leads for continuity to ground and to each other with the power off using a multimeter. It sounds like you may have a defective winding in the pump motor. Just a guess. Be safe!
@@RRUS85 look on inspectapedia dot com for an article on water pump wiring and troubleshooting. Turn off power and test wires heading down to the pump for resistance and continuity using a multimeter. It sounds like you may have a defective winding in the motor. Be safe!

Beware the Dorman IMRC bushings. The plastic that they are made of is too soft and doesn't hold the linkage very well. If you distort the bushings at while installing, toss it and use another new one. They should have used metal linkage retainers like the ones that they use to put on carburetors.
@@crawdoogie Very good point. I didn’t have much choice with the retainers. I live in a small town and that’s all I could get quickly. The metal retainers used on carb linkages would have been a better design. Thanks for your comment!
I opened up the muffler on mine and it's the easiest starting saw I own. 2 pulls on choke and 1st pull on high idle. These saws are as good as it gets for a mid 40's CC .
Yes, good tip. Mufflers become clogged and create back pressure. I really like this saw despite a few performance issues.
Thanks for the idea of repair
Interesting process
What if you want to remove the lost key?
I'm not sure. There may be a way but I have not explored that function. One thing to remember, is that FORSCAN cannot INVENT keys. There must be a minimum of one existing key to program others. If you have lost all keys, you'll need to use a superior automotive scan tool that can program keys from scratch.
@ cool, thanks
