Here’s an idea: A GoPro mic that wirelessly connects to the GoPro via Bluetooth without the need of an external adapter. This keeping your GoPro completely waterproof and adding the better audio to the whole package.
Magnetic mount? I have the insta 360 Go 3 and while biking on gravel roads when combined with the pod it rattles so much the sound is unusable. The GoPro mount it extremely stable and secure. Not sure if magnetic mounts are the best idea in many scenarios.
I haven't had any of that with my GO 3. Are you by chance using the mount that has flip down feet, but you're mounting it using the 1/4 screw and it's the GoPro feet that are rattling? That's the only thing I could imagine happening
Personally, I love the sensor and the readout options that the 11 brought over the 10 (I have the 10 at home and the 11 at work), and that "Shoot now, crop later" aspect was HUGE for GoPro. I too would 100% prefer larger pixels over total MP count. AND hopefully the overheating. Maybe the two go hand-in-hand, but oh well, still hoping for the best! AND lastly, hoping for a new sensor 360 camera, as well as the MINI form factor sticking around.
Excellent vid, best part was the end, i loved seeing the daddy daughter duo. I get the same working from home, i won't ever miss the kids coming in to see what I'm up to 👍
Why did the original GoPro quick mount system, with the little rubber pad you pushed up and then unclipped the mount, never take off? It seemed like it worked really well and I never had one of those fall apart like I have other mounting systems.
Honestly the only thing that would get me to upgrade to the Hero 12 would be additional lens options. I've really been into water photography lately, and it's one of the most expensive things to get into. I can't afford a real camera housing for my Sony 6600 right now, but if I had a waterproof telephoto lens option that would allow me to be a little bit further back from my subjects without missing the shot...I think there would be a pretty big demand for it. I can't imagine me using 480 FPS for anything really, even with water shooting. To be fair though, I didn't think there would be anything that would get me to hop over from the 10 to the 11, but that 8:6 sensor won me over and it's a whole different experience. Great video as always!
We are absolutely plateauing with action cameras. For their size, there's not much more you can pack into them, which is why I want to see stable and reliable as GoPro's core focus going forward. Unfortunately, that's not as fun in a promo video

What GoPro really needs to do is make their camera more versatile. They should be cornering the market for all small cameras: dash-cam, home-security, computer-cam. They attempted to break into the vlogging crowd with the front-screen, but even that was a half-ass attempt, and the whole concept of a front-screen on an action camera seems redonkulous. If they insist on only being an action-cam, then I'd like to see them: 1. Make it smaller (hero 8,9,10,11 are all bloated compared to the 7). 2. Make it powerful. 3. Make it reliable/robust. GoPro has two versions of the 11 (mini) but I'm not sure that's been very successful. A Hero 12 Black and a Hero 12 Black Pro might be better than a 12 mini, but I'm not sure more SKUs will help. I'd love to see (1) a magnetic connector.... in fact, identical to the Osmo Action would be perfect, (2) a true G-Log 10-bit format with the requisite DCTs and LUTs, (3) a USB-C non-proprietary connector for direct microphone connections without the media mod, timecode sync generators, etc., and (4) whatever internal modifications are necessary to eliminate the thermal overheat issues. I think that's just enough of a release to make it worthwhile for many to upgrade and not jump ship to DJI. I'm ready to jump but I'm trying to hold on to see what GoPro will release. Now of course, a (5) 1" sensor would be awesome, and a (6) denser battery to get extended battery life in the range of the OA4 would be great, but I'm not holding my breath on either of those.
The fact DJI released the action 4 when they did makes me think that at least some of this stuff is true, especially the 1” sensor. It seems like they wanted to get it out before GoPro releases the 12 and takes away some customers. GoPro seems like they never learn their lesson and that we really just want a reliable and simple camera. Even with those flashy specs I’m still going to get the action 4, it checks all the boxes for what I need in an action camera and frankly I don’t know why anyone would choose anything else. It does everything it needs to do well and nothing that it really shouldn’t.
Well i will tell you why i wont get the action 4. I like the mounting system of the go pro way better. it is an action camera, it int meant to prioritize easy mounting. It is meant to feel safer. Imagine knocking it on some edge or wall and bye bye action 4 into the ocean. Also the colour just looks better on go pro, less time editing for the common user as the colours are flashier, not more natural. Battery life is huge and it is why im on the market for a 9 probably but waiting for some bigger discount.

Awwww….your in trouble there bud! Always love a good Why?? Because I said so! 😂 Very cute! Drawling on the face with Apple Pencil was great. Good thoughts as always!
By now this should be written on the box! This and the notification that the camera can also be used as a heat source for the room in those cold autum days and nights. This last part alone deserves a minimum 100$ bump up in price!
All i care about is better overheating control when using 60fps on anything higher than 2.7K in resolution, i had to settle for 30fps which does definitely help with overheating issues, but after experiencing data loss on my footage using the gopro Quik app using my phone's internal memory to duplicate videos, i would prefer a desk top version that i dont have to pay extra for.
I would be stoked if GoPro came out with a prosumer-level ruggedized camcorder. Something with decent glass and manual controls, bu that camops could take almost anywhere a 'regular' GoPro could go
that rumour about 2 GoPros isnt new & GoPro said something about it last year.. they wanna have 2 lines - one for pro users (probably 1 inch version) with higher price & one which will continue "basic" line :)
Some nice ideas there but honestly, audio is still GoPro’s Achilles heal. I bought the Hero 11 with media mod hoping to get decent audio for vlogging with option to add external mic or wireless when it warrants it. But the mics on the media mod are worse than the built in ones! So disappointed. Now I leave the media mod off and just use the built in mics with their ‘ok but not great’ audio for vlogging.
I definitely remeber reading an article saying at the gopro investors conference or something like that.... They were talking about a multiple camera release model and releasing a bigger camera. Anyone else?
Gopro can go back to old style naming and release 3 cameras like they use to do. Gopro 12 black with 1” censor 12 silver with slightly new censor and 12 session
Just a thought. That Twitter post. Has someone got hold of the mooted pro camera prototype from a couple of years ago somehow? The font is grey, much like the HERO9… 🤔
Lucky your 8 was reliable. Dang mine overheated in 15 minutes. But I'm a guy that's coming from standard cameras, no action. Overheating, and not having live preview past 1080p30 while recording was too annoying.
@@goggutube I was using mine like an action camera on a bike going 25+ MPH. I don’t think it’s ever overheated while using it that way. The newer one will
Who cares what GoPro releases, we already know the image quality is going to be great but its just going to overheat, lag, glitch, and freeze. The last good gopros were the Hero 4 Black and the hero 5 session.
You didn't mention any of the things that were said by Nick Woodman at the August 3rd investor call. Not only did he say that Quik for Desktop would be returning in Q4 of this year. There would also be a new "premium" subscription tier. But regarding new camera's, he said there would be a "slate" of new cameras and software before the end of year. There would also be an entry level GoPro introduced mid 2024. So "slate" of new cameras would indicate more than one model being introduced this year.
That's sort of where I'm at with the GoPro. It's so damn good quality wise, just needs to tighten up the reliability. Give me a Hero 11 that's reliable and I would gladly upgrade!
It doesn't matter what features they bring. Gopro cannot make reliable cameras in last 10 years. Overheating, SD card errors, Hangups whats going on. you need to reset sd card error and all your data is gone.
Wow, so many comments regarding GoPro overheating. I'm not an action guy, so overheating in 15 minutes was a shocker. But no live preview past 1080p30 was a deal breaker. I mean like I needed to use my 7 year old Sony pocket camera to record live video at 1080p60, instead of using my GoPro 8 Black that has amazing 4K? I'm hoping the Action 4 price drops a bit when the Hero 12 comes out. If so, I'll jump on that. Anyhoo, this was an excellent rumor roundup, clearing up the confusion after reading the other rumor websites. Thanks!
I'll stay GoPro, because I'm happy with them and I have not had any of the problems that so many others complaint about. I have to say that thus far your assessment of the possibilities for the H12 make the most sense of any I have seen.
Agree again with a lot of this, but… Okay, GoPro could release a 1-inch separate version, or at least a second GoPro. Why? Because in an earnings call a couple of years back a more pro orientated GoPro was mooted. So it could be it’s taken longer than predicted to become reality. The big question is, is there a market to support it? The pro community shouts louder than the consumer one, but makes up a fraction of the revenue. So for the moment I’m going with the idea that it was proposed, but shelved. There’s a lot more to the sensor stuff and the GP processor. With regard to the latter, I predict we’ll still see the GP2. It will have required a lot of R&D, and GoPro will want to make a full return on it. Though it may have a variation, maybe more ram for example. Ram was the main differentiator between the HERO5 and the HERO7 with the GP1. Look at the difference. The 5 had no decent stabilisation, while the 7 had HyperSmooth. That’s the difference it can make. And that goes for other image processing pipelines as well.
I'm totally with you that GoPro's core demo is not after a super high end action camera and I think most of their decisions reflect that. But like Apple with the Apple Watch Ultra, there's an appetite for people to pickup the best of the best, even if they're not going to use it to their full potential. I'm hoping, because I'm absolutely in that camp!
@@DavidManningvlog with you, dude. I’m not gonna be complaining if they do. Just think it’s unlikely. But, I’m always very happy to be wrong. Sensor wise, there’s nowt available that matches the specs. So any new 1-inch possibility is going to result in lower resolution and lower frame rates.
@@simonwyndham The sensor could get custom made for them. Gopros 8:7 sensor, was it previously available from sony as a part, was there anything else using a high resolution square sensor? Unfortunately if they go 1 inch I feel like it won't be square.
@@definingslawek4731 it’s very unlikely. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just unlikely. Sony, which has been the main supplier of sensors, generally keeps the best of the best for its own devices, while most other sensors it sells to others are known. You are right, there’s no currently known 1 inch sensor with the specs needed, and even if there was, there are unique requirements for an action camera that makes such a sensor impractical.
It would seem that a full rear screen would add more real estate to risk damage but you would think the designers at GoPro would be aware of that and they would have worked out a solution. Will need to wait and see.
If gopro went to a magnetic system that means people would have to reinbest in to their mahnetic mounts. Because people mostly has gooro fratvtype mounting
Appreciate your insights and thanks for posting this video. I use GoPros for a lot of my motorcycle videos and the weak link is the onboard mics and wind noise. A _LOT_ of wind noise. The only thing that would get me to upgrade to another GoPro would be a simple 3.5mm external audio/mic jack. Not a media mod, but built directly into the camera. The GoPro audio adapter is a joke with its tendency to introduce pops/clicks and the interface is just kludgy with that big honkin' adapter hanging off the side of the camera. Media mod? That's a joke if you need to frequently change cards or batteries. Having to take the GoPro out of the media mod to get to the memory card / battery slots is just a __really__ stupid__ design__ flaw. So, a simple external audio/mic jack is the only feature that would get me to fork over more money to GoPro.
Possible, but I think they'll keep the Black and add in something like 1" Edition or ELITE or something like that. Something to say the Black is still a flagship camera, but we also have something insane for those that want it... it's gonna cost you though
@@sergeig685 ya lost me on the that one…? I was just saying GoPro needs to fix the over heating issue before considering any other upgrade to performance
Cant wait to see what gopro has to offer this year, I dont know why I feel that Osmo action would still be better in low light, but lets see what happens! Hope you'll make a comparison video , and if you do please do not forget to include low light capabilities!! I really wish they offered a telephoto lens .. so that it'll solves all purposes!! Great video as usual !!
The only thing i want to go pro is just be more stable more reliable, if this happend is more like enough for me, I prefert the picture quality over Dji
Hey David- can you make a short on this (if it’s not just my GoPro)- on the hero11 the battery percentage changes % value when you switch resolution setting. I.e- 5k to 1080 I lose 10% battery. The dumbest design ever if this isn’t just my GoPro. I get it drains more in higher resolution but just make it drop faster. % doesn’t logically represent that
I agree with you Dave. I've been owning Go Pros going on 10 years now and have come to the realization that you can't squeeze five lbs of baloney into a 2 lb bag. If the GP people were to add all that tech the camera would cost a lot more than I would ever be willing to pay. GP's cost enough as it is now. And I've never understood this compulsion with shooting at night. This little camera is just not meant for that. Like you I just pull it out of my pocket, point and shoot. Good enough. If they could solve the heating issue and rig a different sort of way to connect to a gimbal ...i.e. magnets that would be great. Keep on rocking .....
Well now the most credible sources are out. The GoPro Hero 12 will be a disappointment to most. Same sensor, everything is more or less exactly like the Hero 11. We're hoping for a camera with less nonsense. Looks like Dji has done the right thing with the Action 4. Looks like a much better camera
Do I want a camera that can do 480fps per second? Or 240fps in 4k? YES!!!! Of course we want that. Honestly those of us who specialize in action sports (I am a long time professional action sports cinematographer) would eat that up. To be frank it would be an even bigger reason for skaters & athletes to use GoPro instead of iPhone. Much love & all, but you're definitely wrong about that one.
A bigger sensor would be cool. “1 inch” is marketing hype though. 1 inch sensors are actually much smaller than anything measuring 1 inch in dimension.
At some point the complaints are just crazy talk for people that want to pretend that a GoPro is DLSR/Mirrorless camera under $500, its not. Full rear screen, 5.3K 120 ) most $5K to $10K mirrorless camera can't do 5K 120.The magnet is cool but the all of my accessories I use a the buckle mount, I just unclip from my car mount to the hand mount. I have not unscrewed by mouth bite in over a year. If you use a GoPro as an action camera then its a great camera.
Gopro isn't competing with themselves unlike the big camera manufacturers. Adding in better image quality that makes the footage cut well with mirrorless/cinema cameras does not actually cost that much money and even if they wanted to maintain their margin I think the camera will still be sub 700 dollars. They already support massively geeky professional filmmaking features such as setting shutterspeed as expressed by shutter angle instead of an absolute speed. Gopro allows you to shoot in LOG, and even modify your log curve to your liking, they have all kinds of features for professional users which are all most likely already in posession of multi thousand dollar mirrorless setups. I think they can and they should push the envelope. They have the potential to make a micro cinema camera. One that is locked into ultrawide, but still. They could do tighter focal length lenses but currently gopros have no autofocus and adding all those moving parts would really start to make the price add up.
still happy with my H7B after owning the 8,9,10 and said no more. the short lifecycle is just stupid.. they don't try to milk existing cows with optimisation FW only breed new ones
aVG person does want 8k video especially for cropping, speak for your self. 8K isn't exactly outside of loop anymore, I, have an 8k TV as do a lot of people I know. If they can't afford a computer to edit it, they can shoot in 1080. Unlikely, yes. They can't keep the camera from overheating or locking up as it is, that would make it worse. 5.3K isn't enough for newer versions of hypersmooth either as you need that extra room to zoom in.
Might get hero 12 when it comes out. I’ve used gopro and I’m a big fan. I had the GoPro hero 7 for 4 years and it finally broke in 2021. But gopro always has been reliable for me so hero 12 it might be
Higher numbers, more of this and that… I‘m waiting for something actually new that enables me to do something completely different or at least make my life much easier in post. How about built in wireless mic receiver and wireless mics as accessories? How about an AI follow mode that crops in on my bike partner and tracks them as we ride MTB or snowboard? How about a dedicated frickin preset button or atleeeeast the option to customize the behavior of the existing mode button? Or a fricking 3d cam? Talking about immersion :D
If the GoPro can record in 8k at 60fps then I will have intercourse with my twingos exhaust pipe. From my research cameras that can achieve that need an external power source. I just hope that the low light performance will be better!
Sticking with DJI until GoPro figures out thermal management and software reliability. If it's the next release of the camera that would be awesome.
Here’s an idea: A GoPro mic that wirelessly connects to the GoPro via Bluetooth without the need of an external adapter. This keeping your GoPro completely waterproof and adding the better audio to the whole package.

that rumour about 2 GoPros isnt new & GoPro said something about it last year.. they wanna have 2 lines - one for pro users (probably 1 inch version) with higher price & one which will continue "basic" line :)
Gopro 12 black with 1” censor
12 silver with slightly new censor and 12 session
Just a thought. That Twitter post. Has someone got hold of the mooted pro camera prototype from a couple of years ago somehow? The font is grey, much like the HERO9… 🤔
Best part of the video was the end. Let her work with you 😂😂
Endings are getting super cool! I wish action camera brands got a rebuy system. I got the gopro7 and is not cheap to rechange without selling
Im just waiting for the thermal fail old bug, for Change to dji after 11 years with gopro
i decide to buy gopro 11, but i just knew there gopro 12 coming. how do you think price gonna be more low?
They just need the new one to not overheat as much as the current one… I’m still using the 8 which is pretty reliable
Reliability is key!
David, you need the 35 1.4 GM 🙂
GoPro needs to fix the over heating issues. That’s the #1 issue for the recent GoPros I’ve had.
It would be better if they made a good application, return support of Apple Watch, correct a bunch of little things, like custom names of presets
That's sort of where I'm at with the GoPro. It's so damn good quality wise, just needs to tighten up the reliability. Give me a Hero 11 that's reliable and I would gladly upgrade!
It was announced yesterday via email!
I have only had Gopro Hero cams. I have had a Hero 2 silver, 5 black, 5 black, 7 silver, 9 black, and 12 black. Gorpo is the best by a long shot.
Thanks!
I assume you are already testing it out...??? Lucky fish!!!
I wish I was😢
Great.. I am excited about Go pro 13. I hope you can do a review on Go pro 13… 😂😅😅
Yes dude has the Go pro hero 12! I’m gonna say, Guaranteed😅😅😅
Nope, not yet😢
I’m happy with my hero 11 tbh . Only gripe is the need for an adapter for an external mic .
Go pro hero 12 white & black
Possible, but I think they'll keep the Black and add in something like 1" Edition or ELITE or something like that. Something to say the Black is still a flagship camera, but we also have something insane for those that want it... it's gonna cost you though
I’m not sure what the file size of 5.3k at 120 frames would be.. I’ve never had it last for more than 3 minutes without over heating at the point 😂
it's limited by bitrate. You cannot create larger files even if you make it 1000 fps
Doesen't you already under NDA, Testing the Hero 12? 4 weeks till announcement, you should already have the 12. Or in a few days.
I'm a big gopro fan. I've got the 10, so I'll be upgrading to the 12 👍
The only thing i want to go pro is just be more stable more reliable, if this happend is more like enough for me, I prefert the picture quality over Dji
What about a touch front screen?
why?
Hey David- can you make a short on this (if it’s not just my GoPro)- on the hero11 the battery percentage changes % value when you switch resolution setting. I.e- 5k to 1080 I lose 10% battery. The dumbest design ever if this isn’t just my GoPro. I get it drains more in higher resolution but just make it drop faster. % doesn’t logically represent that
That's a nice t-shirt
Living that FareDrop life!
I see the Hero 12 on that back shelf 😂🤣
If they don't at least upgrade 5.3k or 5.6k to 120 fps like they should have done with the gopro 11 last year, then I'm definitely passing on it
Do I want a camera that can do 480fps per second?
Go pro used the same processor for many years and generations lol that should’ve been in the unlikely
I like that last rumour regarding the one inch model, it’s starting to get some momentum, would that mean there’s some truth to it 🤔?
still happy with my H7B after owning the 8,9,10 and said no more. the short lifecycle is just stupid.. they don't try to milk existing cows with optimisation FW only breed new ones
Too bad my main beef isn't discussed - OVERHEATING!!
I agree with everything you said about 8K.. would I like there to be 1080p at 2,000 frames per second.. YES!! Or at least 1000fps 🙄😥
Wouldn’t mind a Macro Lense on my GoPro tbh 🤔
Every go pro they ALWAYS show the screen in the back huge lol and never is. We will see this time. it has a lot to catch up to the OSMO action 4
Just upgraded to the Action 4 . Last time I owned a GoPro was GP 7 . Team DJI here
aVG person does want 8k video especially for cropping, speak for your self.
Magnetic mount Please!
YES!!!
Truth be told, he already has it 🤣
I wish!😢
Doubt there's even a proper product yet
@@KentRoads😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
Might get hero 12 when it comes out. I’ve used gopro and I’m a big fan. I had the GoPro hero 7 for 4 years and it finally broke in 2021. But gopro always has been reliable for me so hero 12 it might be
Imagine 8K 60p recorded on a microSD card, next to the battery in a small waterproof camera ...
GoPro should do 1" F 1.7. Would be BOSS!!
f1.7 will leave everything except a very small depth field out of focus. Not what you want in an action cam.
@@sergeig685 Works well on the DJI Mini 3 drones.
Will GoPro make something like the insta360 Go 3? 🤔
if u r a tester for the gopro 12, can u just blink the specs to us in morse code.
We need a wireless microphone that connects directly to the camera without all the bullshit adaptors
If the GoPro can record in 8k at 60fps then I will have intercourse with my twingos exhaust pipe.
From my research cameras that can achieve that need an external power source.
I just hope that the low light performance will be better!
