People don't talk about Jim Carrey in The Mask enough. Such an influential and underrated actor. This movie DESPERATELY needs a 4K release with never before seen special features.
I've been so enraptured by this movie, as a child and still as an adult, and to see how Jim acts without the effects is just another added layer of astonishment for me. The scene where he actually snaps his head away from the mask when he pulls it off and truly acts like hes wearing it is unbelievable! I'll love Jim Carrey for the impact he had on me as a child and all the quirkiness in every character he played
That's so great to be able to watch it in order to really understand how CGI teams worked. That's funny to know they used Back to the Future III as a temp score for the whole Coco Bongo scenes at the end.
Nicely done. The Mask Workprint is excellent, showing how some relatively small edits made quite a change in the overall tone of the film and, in particular, to the character of Tina.
Impressive the Carrey performance, but we also we should give props to the SFX team that did a work just as impressive to make the cartoon persona a reality.
(2) A number of scenes are removed or shortened to change this, but originally the introduction of the Mask & Stanley into her life makes her question and overcome her cynicism with a more romantic view of life . Thus her speech when visiting Stanley in jail has more weight to it.
7 years later, and I doubt you'll see this, but is there any way you could send me a copy of this workprint? It has vanished from the web and im dying to get my hands on it!!
@@thebuzzedkillpodcast3394 I have it along with a bunch of other workprints with a whole box of bootleg dvds that I collected from flea markets years ago in storage somewhere but i know they're in my garage somewhere among a bunch of other boxes, if i can fish them out i really would gladly rip the discs and put them online somewhere if i can
(1) If you watch the workprint Tina has clearly been made cynical by the decisions she has had to make in life. She is angry about having been forced to go to secretly video the bank's security, but she feels she has no choice if she is to get a chance in her chosen career. When she meets Stanley in Landfill Park she makes this clear saying "I do what I have to to get by in this world".
It's funny to hear that the sound design is completely different on the workprint, but it's also very interesting. Just by listening, it seems like they wanted to give the movie a very old cartoony sound design by using typical old sounds effects from the 40s. While they used some of those SFX on the final release too, they were used only for the Mask's character. Here, it's used everywhere, even when the guys try to shoot the Mask in the Coco Bongo.
90% of the effects was jim on his own. Oh we didn't get the part in the corridor with his crazy neighbor going ahhhhhhhhhhh and he responds the same with the hammer in his hand while his eyes pop out and chin bounces hahaha
Wait. A. Minute. 3:24 - 3:28. Carrey pretty much uses telekinesis on his own friggin' face to the point that CGI is completely pointless. The man is a god of slapstick.
So...um...tvmastermandude. If I were to get down on my knees and beg you to post the whole workprint of The Mask up on youtube, would it work? lol What I'm saying is could you please post the entire up for us to see? Oh! (Plops down on knees) Ow...
jeez, what an outstanding performance by Carrey. The dude was a living cartoon.

I dont think you realise how elastic Carrey is until you watch the work print without the CGI effects
This is the same degree of art as Bob Hoskins in Toontown. See ua-cam.com/video/u_VnHAy1Vdc/v-deo.html

I love how they used the music from Beetlejuice as temp music. Also Jim is amazing. I've been obsessed with him since childhood
Also Darkman.
4:13 "that's a spicy meat-ah ball-eh" still cracks me up to this day 😂
Such a great movie, awesome to see Jim acting without effects. Thanks!
Thank you for preserving this, I've always wondered where the practical effects end and the CGI begin, and it still holds up decades later!
That's so great to be able to watch it in order to really understand how CGI teams worked.
That's funny to know they used Back to the Future III as a temp score for the whole Coco Bongo scenes at the end.
This is so fascinating watching this type of stuff. They put a painful amount of work into this movie.
That was a spicy meataball!
aw, the power of INDUSTRIAL LIGHT & MAGIC.
After he put the Loki mask on, I was expecting Ipkiss to transform into Michael Myers, complete with a white Captain Kirk mask and blue jumpsuit.
Not only must i thank you for uploading this, but huge props for the iasip music too!! Absolute taste
amusing how when a workprint leak for a kids movie of a little blue train causes hysteria, yet when this came out no one gave a toss!
Huh so that's how they did it. Poor Peter Greene must have puked his guts out after all that spinning.
Wait Peter did the spinning cgi

Yep. The WHOLE thing was on here. Unfortunately, we now have to hope that someone else would post it up on here.
Ever see the Spinal Tap workprint? Damn near five hours of deleted scenes. It's AMAZING.
I wish I saw more workprint of the car honking scene
(Chuckles nervously as I get up, dusting off my knees) True. Though, I'm trying to see if they can upload it for all of us to see it.
The only movie i thought cameron diaz was hot in
What’s different about these scenes? First it is in open matte. Then some scene are storyboarded when they where not finished.
Okay then. Thanks for letting me know!
How do I get a copy of this workprint? Nowhere else on the internet
OMG, Jim Carrey is like real Bugs Bunny.
He did at least 70% of the animators' work for them.
Does anybody know the names/titles of the temp track used in this video?

Jim Carrey just spinning in place 😂
I don't understand why the workprint is so low quality
Didn't the entire workprint use to be on UA-cam? Can't seem to find it, now... :-(
So when Stanley takes off the mask he doesn't have it in his hand?? Oh how clever.
So there was suppose to be a third shot of Tina spinning in the air?
Storyboards... That's what I want to work with! But for animation^^
So, Danny Elfman was considered for composer? lol
It would be awsome if he did
No you see in workprints they use temp tracks from other films as placeholders until they have their own score for the final film

Do u have any Idea where the early version could be obtained?

Why is CGI better in 94 than 2020?
It's not. There's just more OF it, so you get burnt out on it more easily.

OK, good, Thank you.
the intro theme was also from a spongebob episode

In a Bug's Life trailer, music from Beetlejuice and Waterworld are heard.
