I was never successfull with snails ... I had Nerites and they all died! Just recently I bought some plants and to my delight they came with Bladder snails. They are breeding like crazy. They are great pets (NOT pests) and comical to watch. There are a few babies too so I hope they will survive. I don't have heaters so the temp. is quite low. Thank you for your video, very interesting.
absolutely nice video tutorioul. intresting video about Freshwater Snails. its are incredible. good explanation. thanks for the knowledge and i enjoy it
This is a really interesting video. It is great to watch this video. I am really glad to know about these snails. Thank you very much for sharing this video!!
I am absolutely amazed by the panic when people find snails in their tanks. I mean, they're amazing in the ecosystem, and I researched my types. I love my snails, lol. Others want to nuke their tanks like its a zombie apocalypse!
I had a ton of MTS that started from just a couple on accident when buying fish. I had a couple zebra loaches already in the tank but until I changed to a 40 gallon they never put a big dent in the population of trumpet snails. Now all my snails are dead and sadly the loaches got sick too. They were covered in like a white foam overnight and had died. I got a small UV light for my filter for $14 off Amazon so hopefully it will kill off all that kind of stuff plus it made my water crystal clear
Do you know what the white foam was called ..( that killed loaches)? Did the white foam kill snails, too.. and did the loaches become infected by eating snails? Sorry- I have a million and one mystery snails after buying 3 6 months ago and I just purchased 4 baby yo-yo loaches - as my fish shop said they would eat baby snails..? I hope.
@@quki3 I never found out what it was that killed him or her :( Yoyo loaches are very good at killing snails. They do make a weird clicking sound sometimes, almost sounds like grass cracking or clicking sounds.
@@quki3 I used ick medicine because it was the only thing I had and one zebra loach lived and none of the other fish in the tank got sick at all. I heard a lot of bottom feeders get sick more often which I think maybe true, I've lost a fare number of bottom dwellers :( I had 3 yoyo loaches I ended up trading in after a couple years. They got like 6 inches long in my 20 gallon and started bullying other fish a bit. The store didnt bother to tell me they got that big and are semi aggressive..
Snails are great for keeping your plants free of algae . They also clean any hardscape. Glass is best cleaned with razor . You need to Run a over size filter with super fine filter to keep crystal clear water
Hi Vicky. It’s possible but not recommended as you can overpopulate your tank. Usually I tell folks to stick with Nerites. Mystery snails are good for goldfish tanks
I just noticed a small pea size snail in my fish tank I think it came from the live plants I recently add no sure what kind it is yet but I keep an eye on it
I did not know that there were snails for aquarium, I thought people only buy animals like crabs or fishes, to me, the most interesting one was the Rabbit Snail.
You need to have balance in the aquarium, simulate the natural environment for the animals to make them cormfortable, and snails are a good way to keep your aquarium clean and natural.
I got a mystery snail a few days ago and it it eating my live plant (I only have one). I don’t mind it eating it but I’m worried if it’s safe for it to eat. Will it be ok or should I remove the plant?
I want to try snails for my 5g but I’m afraid of them taken over the tank, So if I get just 1 mystery snail, will I be fine since you need a male and a female to reproduce?
I personally love bladder snails. I think there a wonderful addition to a fresh water tank. There great little busy bee cleaners. There a living things. With big little hearts, you can clearly see beating and there little mouse puckering as a clean your tank. They deserve to live just as much a as the favorite snails do. They bring joy to my life and I love them.
I hate most snails, they're invasive, reproduce much faster than rabbits and cause a lot of work, to the point that it makes one think "this is not a hobby....it's a war"! The hobby is a great one but you must be inclined not to think you can sit on your duff and enjoy the scenery! It won't work that way...SO you must figure out the easiest way to do EVERYTHING! I have a 20 g. low tank, I use filtered and washed non-clumping cat littler from Walmarts($4.97 for 20 lbs.) and it's working great. I have 4 Chopstick Snails in there that I seldom ever see. They burrow and have ONLY 1 or 2 offspring a year and they keep the substrate clean and loose while NOT bothering any of my plants, and I have a good number and variety of plants. I also have 2 Nerite snails that somehow keep that whole thing free of algae, and of course they have the help of about 20 cherry shrimp. This small tank is for my nano fish ( 10 Galaxy rasboras, ten small stripped rasboras and ten pigmy cats) and my cleanup crew is doing a great job so I only have to clean this tank about once a year and then lightly. This cat litter is the best thing I've used so far as a substrate. PS: I would suggest that one not purchase these snails from anywhere in Arizona, but know that if you do, you do so at your own risk....nuff said!!

It’s not a problem for your snail to eat the plant, however it’s likely not good for the plant getting eaten. It would be best to remove the plant.
@@AquariumStoreDepot Thank you
This might be a dumb question, but do they ever try to make their way out of the tank/bowl? I've seen people have snails in tanks without lids
Yes some will climb out. Nerite snails are infamous for it

One snail should be okay. Just watch your bioload
Is there black snail with round shell
Nerites are close to that, but not round

For a snail that is large and doses not reproduce on its own and can live in colder water?
What would you recommend
What’s the temperature range?
60 degrees to 68 degrees f
Does the ivory snail lay eggs?
Random snails are in my aquarium… they are a welcomed surprise as I just lost a betta (sick from petco tried to rehab 😢)
Sorry to hear. Petco rescues are tough :-/
@@AquariumStoreDepot At least he had a couple days of some nice space. 😢💖
What about the Japanese trap door snails?
I crush snails as they will act as a fresh food supply for my fish.
Do they escape from the tank?
Nerites are known for escaping your tank 😅. Well at least I recall the nerites I had in my reef tank (I got them from Hawaii)
Nice info
Are any of them good for guppies
Nerites should work well with them
No love for the ramshorn ☹️💔
I cant keep them. They die i have 40 gallon tank😢
I have 2 apple snails living with goldfish
Poor Al Gay, he got eaten by snails
