2025 Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS - How Does It Stack Up?

- Опубліковано 18 гру 2024
- Having ridden the 2024 model Triumph Speed Twin 1200 and loved it, I was very keen to get on the all new Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS. With principally the same engine and updated suspension as my very own Triumph Thruxton 1200RS I was sure to like it. The elephant in the room is obviously the clock, just one very modern affair. Necessary I believe for connectivity and the ability to fit a Quickshifter. Possibly the only thing negative about this bike is what I would say.

One of the gauges has fallen off already. Other than that, it looks really nice.
I don't like the single cheap looking clock off the Trident and £14.5k is way too much.
Hi TAYM, Great review as always. I have to say that I like the SpeedTwin 1200 RS but I don't love it! The orange suits it in my opinion, (the Thruxton green is better) and it sounds wonderful, BUT Oh dear; that single off centre clock reminds me of a seventies Casio LCD wristwatch and has no place on that bike. The old twin clocks were fantastic and should have been kept, even go as far as to say a TFT screen in the centre would be better if modernisation is required. Ride safe!!
To delete the twin clocks is one thing , to replace with an OFFSET single is a double whammy ! ... so many people dislike the offset look. Triumph clearly see the Speed Twin from the 'Performance Roadster Twin' angle rather than the 'Sporty, Performance Bonny' one and have doubled down on that look ( excuse the pun)
Maybe in world markets overall it's the right move ?
Morning TAYM, that's an expensive can of Tizer! And the bloody mudgaurds don't even work! 😅😅 Triumph certainly know how to charge more for less don't they!
All that money yet they haven't put decent mudguards on it and twin clocks. A Bonnerville without twin clocks, never thought I'd see the day.
Tbh I'd take your Thruxton every time mate 😀
Jack his chrome thruxton ahhhh yessssssss lol.🎉😂
Poor Taym he'd be lost without his Bonnies.
Thanks Willie 😁
😂😂
Absolutely 😁
Evening taym having previously owned a speed twin I would say the engine is a peach however it never gave me the same proud smug ownership and smiles per ride as my Moto Guzzi V7 850 special 😊 I ride the Guzzi all year round something I didn’t do on the triumph speed twin. Carry on that man Caio for now tat ta👍🏻
Yes, they may have just smoothed it out just a bit too much 😁 though it is lovely to ride 😁 thanks HN 😁
I may have too many comments for you to put up with tonight. Sorry, but here goes. The low bars on your Thruxton. Back in the day, before sport touring bikes were invented, we all had low bars. If my memory serves me (which is a stretch) I installed BMW Touring bars with a pretty low rise. At any speed above 60 you were perfectly balanced into the wind. Now just one more idea. I love my Tiger 900. Don’t get me wrong. But a Tiger 900, large tank, screen and some lower wind and rain protection with a Thruxton 1200 engine I might sell my soul for.
Love the orange tank! Triumph nailed that color. 🥰
This will sound hypocritical because I’ve been putting tail tidy’s on a few bikes lately but I’m not a fan of the rear fender. It just seems to minimal for the bike, to me.
And it needs the dual clocks.
I supposed that would make it a T-120 ish bike.
Ending on another positive, I loved the way it got up and went!
Thanks for taking us on a ride Mr TAYM!
I have a triumph thruxton 1200rs which is better looking in my eyes just could not face only having one clock and it's just two much in the price great vid keep it up
Thanks JM 😁 I agree 😁 thanks JM 😁
That plastic reservoir pot needs to be replaced using the type that's fitted to the T100 for example and can we have longer mudguards please.
What about fitting a reservoir sock? Just to hide it rather than replacing it.
I get the comparison with the T120 but I think they are very different bikes that will apeal to very different people. For me there was never any doubt it was going to be the T120. The Speed Twin was just way more sporty than I wanted and just didn't have the look.
Thanks Mike 😁 I will give you a ring tomorrow afternoon if you are about 😁
Well, offset digital gauge aside, I just put a down payment on one. Will arrive in a month or so. Im excited!!
Stunning bike, but what's up with the enfield clock 🫣. Bring back the twin dails please triumph. Gee, I'd just have no self-control with the right hand 😆😅🤣😂.
@iantownsend17 Don't like the cut outs in tank or single offset clock. The previous versions look better but these have better tech.If I was gana get a Speedtwin 1200 be previous model while they still for sale in Dealerships.
Totally agree. My mate is looking at one now. They arrive mid January. Take care RR and have a Merry Xmas and a great new year
I was gana wait for new Speedtwin 900 but saw a early shot of it no info & didn't like the offset clock & 1200 type seat & my OCD hated those cut outs on the tank so I went for the 2024 model 900 & now I know about what tech upgrades that came with new version like cornering ABS & Traction Control & a Sport Mode but I still would of got previous 2024 model. Those cut outs & offset clock I didn't like & the 1200 Speedtwin seat made the 900 look like a smaller 1200.I prefer the previous model seat & tank & clock & the Speedtwin 900 seat looks way better.
Oh blimey TAYM, i've only gone and watched the video and we all know what happened last time you test rode the Jaffa Speed Twin! 😀 I like it, I like it a lot, apart from the single clock! Question is could I justify upgrading mine, is the improved spec worth the price? I love my Speed Twin and I loved my Thruxton RS, the only reason it went was my wrists didn't like it. As you say, this provides the best of both worlds. I'm conflicted, gonna have to have a think on this one. 🤔Thanks as always for a great review. 👍
See another message I sent appears not to be on? I sent a message telling you that you must not laugh! Yesterday, I was asked by my young neighbours if I’d be willing to change the oil on the two mini bikes they’ve bought there lads for Christmas! Happy to do it. Apparently they were told by the shop the oils needed changing as it was probably too thin for the UK, Chinese bikes as you’d imagine. A three wheeler and a bigger two wheeler! I duly change the oil and started both bikes to check the level. And here is what you MUST NOT LAUGH AT! The seat height on the mini two wheeler was nearly perfect for me! 😱 STOP LAUGHING, I WARNED YOU, STOP IT - NOW! 😡😡😡🤣
Well that’s weird 🤔 I replied to it🤔 what the hell is going on🤔 thanks Dave 😁
@@TAYM You’re probably not paying your UA-cam fees! 🙄🤣
I’m not a fan of the old flat seat look, I feel a raised pillion seat makes a bike look more sit in than sit on. The offset single clock is a disaster and I’d need sunglasses to look at that tank. It appears to me Triumph are asking more money for a downgrade. With Honda offering the new CB1000 Hornet SP for under £10,000, Triumph need to up their game. The better handling of the Thruxton on open roads is due to your weight over the front wheel as opposed to catching wind and lifting the weight from the front wheel. I hope yourself, Mrs TAYM, Baby TAYM and Baby TAYM junior have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy prosperous new year 😊
Thanks GW 😁
Congrats RR😊
Thanks. The Tester was a good dude & was impressed with my wet weather riding skills & I got 100% on Full License test.
It was pissing down lucky Full License test is only 30mins long.
HE was impressed & said if can ride in those conditions & pass Full License test ride anywhere.
The 75min Ride home 🏡 in heavy rain was awesome really enjoyed it went back way less traffic. Was glad to get home & my Dririder all all seasons jacket weighed a ton when took it off.
All legal beagle on Speedtwin 900 now.Took the Trident for Full License test being a LAMS bike.
2nd place first loser 😁😂😂😂
😂😂 excellent
What do manufacturers have against mudguards? To me, they help to complete the look of a bike. So many bikes look as though the rear end hasn't been finished off and there's something missing. Front mudguards are barely there too.
Yes, not a very practical bike but a beauty to ride 😁 thanks William 😁
I'll keep my Speed Twin and upgrade the rear shocks to something decent I think, although a quick shifter would be nice, it's not something I am missing TBH, and one thing the 2023/4 Speed Twin does not need is additional torque :)
Thanks Steve 😁 I would do exactly the same 😁
I just don’t think it looks as nice as the old one, all they needed to do really was update the rear suspension. Also the way they have increased the price of the standard model and downgraded the brakes, mudguards, rider modes and clocks just seems crazy to me.
I much prefer the traditional look and feel of the W800. I would have no practical use for all the additional power, size and weight of the big Triumphs. Still a nice machine though.
Cheers
BJ
Oh Bob, you keep doing it don’t you😂😂😂 miss my w800 every time you mention it 😁
@@TAYM Sorry. I wasn't referencing your W800 but simply expressing why it the best bike for me. Cheers.
Been looking forward to this 👌🏼 For me it’s not retro nor modern enough - no man’s land now. It’s not special like a Thruxton, and regardless of that clock, that new headlight makes it look like one of the 400s. Just not special anymore
It is a beatifull bike, but new bikes are so expensive. In a time everyone has more bills to pay. I hope for more succes for motorcycle dealers. Times are hard for everybody.
103 BHP? damn.... My 2020 T120 has 79!
😂😂😂 thanks 2WV 😁
Clocks, mudguards, tank cut outs and nasty brake reservoir all a negative for me. Engine yummy. I’d take your thruxton anyday. Way too expensive too. I foresee all the major brands in trouble in the future with Allthe best value chinese bikes. But I would still choose a branded 2nd hand. Never had a new bike or car and at 66 never will I suppose. My old man was a car dealer/workshop and told me to but good 2nd hand unless you want to pour money away. Suppose if you can afford it why not. Costs £3500 a year at my local golf club so if it’s your hobby
Can't see the point of getting rid of the twin clocks if they are going to keep them on the T120 and T100 models????
Anyone who thinks this 2025 Speed Twin looks better than previous model needs to seek professional help.
😂😂😂😂 thanks DJ😁
Great looking machine and looks proper with a bit of grime on it. Thanks TAYM.
The cut outs remind me of the CCM TAYM not keen on that and the single clock not for me either "not that that matters a jot really "😉 umm yeh it's a nice bike but if it rides anything like the old one with two clocks comfort wise not a patch on the T120 for me TAYM the older one just felt wrong to me but it's a good job we aren't all the same 😂good power good brakes but not for me 👍
Triumph are forgetting there heritage a bit i think , all this non practical guards and cramming all into one clock business
But sounds like Taym been tango'd haha
Yes, you may be right 😁 but it is a beautiful thing to ride 😁
What a sweet looking machine, love it
Thanks Paul 😁
@TAYM very welcome sir
Dreadful-looking motorcycle.
- the tank graphics are ugly
- having a single clock looks cheap
- the clock being offset to one side looks odd
- the gold-coloured forks look chintzy and out of place in addition to clashing horribly with the orange colourway
Way to off on the pricing..very nice bike though
I tend to agree 😁 thanks T3😁
Good morning Mr TAYM, thats a no from me i am afraid expensive garage jewellery not a fan of Hinckley Triumph's
But we all like what we like and that is a good thing .take care out there dodgy roads n weather this time of the year .👍
looks good , but the mudguards are a joke ;; someone has nicked the speedo and left a sample pot damn cheek ;;;
Unfortunately the new speedo ruins the classic nature of this now also prices are getting to a point where they are just too much especially when Honda have annihilated its competition with the price of the Hornet. I hope more manufacturers re look at their prices.
Afternoon Taym 😊 marvellous but no twin clocks but dose that matter, no I don't think so 👍
Thanks AR 😁
All that money... and that brake reservoir. 🤢
😂😂😂😂 exactly 😂😂😂 thanks KT 😁
@TAYM And it's not just the specimen thing... it's the shoddy way they mounted it.
3rd😂
🙄🤣
😂😂
🙄🙄😂
I don't like the clock, headlamp, side panels, styling on fuel tank and the mudguards are a p#ss take.
It's Cheap looking ,lacks character and whoever designed it needs talking to.
No mudguards
No main stand
Silly cheap looking digital clock.
Cheap Orange paint job with mindless decals.
Rear Shocks look nasty, how much do they cost.
I was expecting something with a bit more quality.
Something to match the famous Kawasaki 900cc but this isn't doing anything for me.
The fuel tanks a bloody disgrace with that cheap triangle Triumph sticker for a badge, who's idea was that 😮
14 k.😢
Back to the drawing board Triumph and think CHARACTER.
Having said all that
I'D LOVE ONE 😅😅
For that amount of money, I'll stick to my Enfields..Thanks though 👍👍👍
At least 3 enfields 😁😂😂 thanks D&M 😁
And NZ wins...via Australian
😂😂😂 excellent 😁
Triumph have made a mistake here with single clock 🕰️ not fond of the colour schemes well the stripes, that’s about it. I understand bikes are dearer each year due to a lot of things. Oh and to ofset the single clock to one side come on 😮
Thanks Moto😁 can’t argue with that 😁
