Agree that new dash is a daft move - work with the old ones and fit the electronics inside. Still might get one though - very excited for the RS model.
Nice video. And lovely you didn't put music in the background. Thank you! I've always loved these bikes. Went for the BMW NineT instead. That's history now, since there's a 790 Duke in the garage, but maybe it's time for a Trumph again?
Again, another journalist saying it’s fantastic wow what a bike. Where else? Yes the RS has a quick shifter and upgraded suspension. 14 grand is still a lot of money for that bike. Personally I think the outgoing version is a better bike and better value proposition for any potential buyer. Also I never heard much about the change in clocks which for me is a dealbreaker and I preferred the original clocks.
These new Speed Twins just don't look properly Retro enough anymore like the early models. Lost the gorgeous twin clocks for a plastic digital screen. Plasticy cheap looking grey headlight bezel. Uglier tank paint jobs with hideous giant cutouts in the front so they can fit the new inverted front forks that just look out of place on a retro rather than the classic upright forks with some fork boots. Should have just kept the truly retro styling of the early models and given it better components that don't take away from the look. Why would I spend $15,000 + for these when I can get a used 2019-2021 Speed Twin that looks so much better and performs 90% as well for half the price. Throw on some upgraded shocks and some better brakes and now I have a Speed Twin that performs 95% as well and looks 10 times better.
Nice bikes just shame they ditched the classic looking twin clocks , couldn't they have upgraded with LCD screens inside the twin clocks ? could have virtual clocks .maybe a smiths chronometric screen ?
That's EXACTLY what Triumph should have done for the price they're asking. I understand that the new technology might require a new dash. But then they should have come up with round, twin TFT displays and the ability to show revs on one and speed on the other. But not with the cheap dash from the Trident.
Why do all the testers think they have to hang off the bike knee out when doing a road test , I don’t believe they can ride a bike fast like most of us over 65 without all the gymnastics.🤣
Sounds like the ‘std’ option will be better on rougher surfaces? (Those roads look unrealistically smooth, perhaps a bit flattering for a firmly suspended bike?)
@STIjojoSTI the Speed Twin has enough power/torque for the tight stuff, so it depends on your skills.. but on open roads or track, the yamaha/765rs have the advantage for sure. I rode a Thruxton (on shitty tires; pirelli night dragon..) and loved it so much that im now considering getting a Speed twin 1200.. that engine has so much character and is a blast to ride. ua-cam.com/video/cooa7qjUiT0/v-deo.html
Nice and all, but adding a few premium bits to a Speed Twin will never match the bespoke, supermodel looks of the Thruxton. No cheaper either - especially if the cafe options are selected :/
RS too pricey. Standard too pricey for the dumbed down spec. Shame on the cheap clock. Will wait for the R1300R or maybe go for the Guzzi V100 'wind tunnel' with showa semiactive susp..
I think I'll stay with my 2022 speed twin 4 pot brembo bracks 3 rider modes Metzler rr tyres and of course those beautiful twin clocks i don't need a quick shifter although the adjustable suspension would be great it seems to me that triumph took away from the standard new bike that the old bike had and i really don't like any of the colour scheme's the speed twin came out from the 2018 year to the present that's why I bought the black
Chad, normally you do great reviews but you have let yourself down with this one. Nearly everyone is talking about the cheapening of certain parts on these bikes [plastic mudguards on the base model, the budget Trident 660 dash etc] but you failed to mention critically these major talking points. Come on Chad you can do better than this.
£14,500 for a bike that seems to be confused about its gender, no thanks. Too many better bikes around for less money or only slightly more. That offset clock unbalances the whole bike. They run hot because it has a small radiator and the plumbing is hidden, so I’m sure a little more power will just add to the problem. It will be interesting to see how the gearbox stands up to the quick shifter! Previous experience of Triumph shifters have not been great. Other than Aprilia, Triumph is the only other bike I’ve made a warranty claim on. All that glitters is not gold! This new review reminds me of the ones for the old bike which also said how good it was only in reality it was a fairly flawed motorcycle. Unlike Chad I think a Z900rs would be on buyers radar.
No thanks. I'll buy the Kawasaki Z990 RS. More hp. Better styling. And it's $4000 cheaper. And try selling a used Triumph. You can't. No one wants to buy one.
Gold forks look average nowadays on any bike. What used to mean you had quality ohlins forks just look tacky regardless of the bike. Black ones look a mile better
Actually, yes. It has massive torque throughout the range, and it can rev to its top HP very quickly, although its HP is relatively flat, so it won't really lose power, whatever gear or part of a turn you are in
Agree that new dash is a daft move - work with the old ones and fit the electronics inside.
Still might get one though - very excited for the RS model.
Should never have changed those clocks.
Agreed. I was told they changed them due to allowing more tech but makes no sense whyd they go not only single but complete offset.
If I am not mistaken they put the instrument offset to leave space on the handlebar in case the rider decides to mount a gps or a mobile bracket.
@giorgisyr1 I've heard that as well however for those of us who don't like extra tech it still doesn't make much sense.
Good thing you don't drive the clocks
Was planning to get the RS but not having the analog clocks ruin it for me. So sad :( - Will go for a BMW s1000R or R1300R once released now.
I have a 2023 Speed Twin, Nitron front and back, sprung to my weight. Cat relocated to the bin. And the twin analogue clocks. I’m happy.
me too
only Quick Shifter I wanted. Do you think as accesories Quick Shifter can get into it?
You might need to get the footpegs off the RS to fit the quickshifter I think.
Great video :)
Nice video. And lovely you didn't put music in the background. Thank you!

What happened to Bike World??? 😮
You're wrong. It doesn't come off as retro anymore. It looks more modern than retro. I'll stick with the previous gen for half the price.
Again, another journalist saying it’s fantastic wow what a bike. Where else? Yes the RS has a quick shifter and upgraded suspension. 14 grand is still a lot of money for that bike. Personally I think the outgoing version is a better bike and better value proposition for any potential buyer. the camera doesn't do justice to the bike that's so beautiful in flesh!

Exactly. Greatly prefer the symmetrical Y spoke wheels on the 2021 Speedy, and the more retro looking Monza fuel cap too.
Looking forward to the speed twin 900 review
They should run this along side the street triple in the MotoAmerica Hooligan class.
Crazy money. No wonder why motorcycling is dying in the uk
Yes buy a used Thruxton and slap straight bars on it 😊

Second video of this speed 1200 review and again no mention of the hideous offset clock... Triumph asked not to speak about it?
What was wrong with the Thruxton RS. Isn't this the same, but not quite as nice looking?
What kind of another full exhaust system fits? LeoVince?
Hey Chad what is the jacket you are wearing in this video?
Is there no optional quick shifter for the standard model? (Apologies if you mentioned it & i wasn't listening.)
No apparently because of the different positioning of the foot pegs it can’t be fitted
Why do all the testers think they have to hang off the bike knee out when doing a road test , I don’t believe they can ride a bike fast like most of us over 65 without all the gymnastics.🤣
I have 2023 Speed Twin 1200. Do you think as accesories Quick Shifter can get into it?
No chance
So the standard model, loses twin clocks, brembo brakes and metal mud guards but gains IMU, Rear suspension and 5BHP
Sounds like the ‘std’ option will be better on rougher surfaces? (Those roads look unrealistically smooth, perhaps a bit flattering for a firmly suspended bike?)
You think the speed twin 1200 RS can hang with an MT09 or Street twin 765 RS?
Nope. Rode all of them..
@@brazilianrider8882 big difference? Will be left behind alot?

In a drag race, maybe not. On a real world ride with non-pro-riding friends, of course it can hang.
Clocks 😮, Deal breaker for me, to ad extra insult they off set it ! It's a shame, because now it's the bike it should of always been.
Nice and all, but adding a few premium bits to a Speed Twin will never match the bespoke, supermodel looks of the Thruxton. No cheaper either - especially if the cafe options are selected :/
More comfortable to actually ride, and tubeless tires too. Never liked the tubed tires on those Thruxtons.

NO TWIN CLOCKS NO THANK U🤬I’ll keep my 2023 ST1200RS

£14.5k and the cheapest dash they make from the trident 660. Royal Enfield give you a better dash on their £5k bikes. Triumph are absolute jokers

That's a 1000ps review.. Chad is not allowed to be honest 😂
Wow
The single clock looks ugly
1200 with 104 hp should be a lot more. The look is nice
It's probably going to be like the Thruxton, nobody will buy the standard bike, and it will get dropped in a couple of years.

Better styling? In what way?
Z900 rs not 990.
Its not 4k cheaper in my country.about the same price
Not Ohlins at the front either
Yea buy the Kawasaki the have to spend 500 getting the fueling sorted 😂

Never. Weight and handling are totally different on those bikes.
If you’re talking twisties, it totally depends on the rider. Straight line, I don’t give a sh%t.
