      Donal, I find beating/slightly whipping the caramel makes it easier to spread and smoother consistency.

      For an extra depth in flavor add a small amount of coffee into the cream and it just makes it that tiny bit better

    I would layer the biscuit base with dark chocolate first and then the dulce followed by the banana and then a little dulce whipped cream. That's my version!

    Dear Donal,
    Your banoffee pie looks wonderful. I have made this pie several times, and the one addition that I had learned to add was a coffee element. I learned that adding instant coffee to the cream gives a nice contrast of flavor that marries well with both the banana and toffee and also cuts through the sweetness a bit. I'm not sure if the coffee flavor was in the actual original recipe or not, but it does work well. Just my take on this delicious dessert.

      @@AmiAki No ..it doesn’t .according to other British sources it’s Banana and toffee...you can add coffee but it’s NOT traditional.

    I’ve first heard of banoffee pie from Kiera Knightly’s character in Love Actually and was never able to find it anywhere here in the States. I finally had it in London some years back and it was pretty amazing. I’m gonna have to give this recipe a try. 😋

    my dad was actually knew the guys who invented the banoffee pie, it was in the early 70's at the Hungry Monk in Jevington, just outside Brighton/Eastbourne on the south coast of England

    This looks INCREDIBLE! There are two British desserts that I've always wanted to try... Sticky Toffee Pudding, and THIS! I'm going to have to find some Digestives and give this a go! Thank you!

    I don't know why they didn't have you doing SATURDAY KITCHEN full time on BBC when Jimmy Martin packed it in. You're by far the most natural host when you do it.
    P.s. did you know James Martin is from Yorkshire?
    Not sure if he's ever mentioned it before.

    Banoffee pie is like one of my top 3 favourite desserts BUT somehow all I can think of now is that saucepan... I don't know why I find it so attractive. It looks like a mixing bowl with a handle. I want that.

    Oh I will have to make this for my 70th birthday! Growing up my favorite dessert was Mom's Chocolate Pudding Cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream . You know the one where you pour hot water over then bake. It's the best!

    I don’t like the side biscuits, it’s too much biscuit for me. I make my biscuit flat in a ring, add caramel, banana then cream in a piping bag then remove the sides and cream sides too, just sprinkle glitter on top that’s it.

    Ugh I just cannot get the biscuit crumb case out in one piece. I am going to go it again but completely line the spring bottom cake tin and not just the bottom and also make the walls a little thicker and when I get it out of the fridge, I will leave it for ten minutes or so before attempting to free it. I need the luck 🍀 of Irish with this one ☝️

    Does the cream melt away if not refridgerated? And how long does the cream hold up if refridgerated? I want to make it for my birthday the night before!!

      Make it up to the stage before adding bananas refrigerate overnight..before serving add sliced bananas ( if you do it too early bananas go brown) and add your whipped cream.

    I’ve made a similar recipe but I’ll add some powdered sugar to my cream and, on top, I just grate some dark chocolate, it’s amazing!!!

    There was a great sumo wrestling match in me...mind with vegan ideology versus the stomach craving seafood and dairy. The stomach won the match. Cats and my dog in Heaven and on Earth help me to eat. I would appreciate seeing more seafood dishes and dairy dishes. You are a great chef Donal. :)

    You need be more particular with yours recipes, because some people do not know common things! Such as -how make caramel milk, what temperature should be cream and so on!
