New life for an old pocket knife 🔪 Amazing Restoration

  • Hi friends! I recently acquired a beautiful knife from one of the antique shops. Its owner, who restores old items himself, couldn't find the time to restore it due to a large number of orders, so he decided to sell it to me. He showed me a catalog where it was indicated that the knife was produced in Germany in 1930.
I performed a rust removal procedure using an acidic solution, followed by chemical nickel plating and polishing. The result exceeded my expectations! Now the knife looks as if it was just manufactured.
I hope you enjoy this video and appreciate my work with your comments and likes. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in the comments, and I will be happy to answer them.
Thank you for watching, and see you soon on my channel!

Nice restore. I would be proud to carry that knife.
It would be most helpful if you labeled the chemicals, adhesives, etc.

Lovely vid! I've been watching few of yours now, and I really like your concept about what's restoration. There are a lot of very skilled restorers out there making vids, but they always tend to make their projects even better than when they were new bought. You don't. You respect them for what they are without robbing them of the beauty they've gained through the ages. Complements for that. (Just a shame you've used a brass rivet for the folding part; it should have been a steel one,çause the hardened steel of the blade will wear out the brass rather fast..)

Thank you very much for your wonderful review, I really appreciate it! I really try to restore and keep the subject to a minimum by making changes. You are right about the brass rivet, I didn’t think about it (this knife is now always in my little purse and I have only used it once in all the time, so I think the rivet is not in danger yet) thanks again 🤝

Just wondering, would a German 1930s knife say made in Germany on it?

    • @SalvageRestore
      @SalvageRestore  Рік тому

I'm sure it was possible at the time. In the catalog I saw Solingen digging knives, they were made at the beginning of the twentieth century, so they are branded “Solingen Made in Germany”

      Yes it would.

The Term "Made in Germany" was introduced by the british in 1887 as a warning to protect the british industrie from relativly bad quality of german products of that time. This changes very rapidly within a couple of years and the warning became a sign for high quality products "made in Germany" So in 1930 it was comon to find this on every german product as it is today if you find anything not made in far east countries ..😃

Schönes Video. Aber niemals 3. REICH. "MADE IN GERMANY" gab es erst viel später.

Thank you very much ! I’m very glad that you liked my video😊 but you’re a little wrong, this stigma dates back to the late 19th century.

Nice vid, but 1930 isnt the 3 reich. Its the weimarer republik.
