100 years without fire, but I breathed life into it! Restoration of an antique lighter
Hello everyone ✌️
Today, I’ll show you the restoration process of a unique antique desk lighter from the early 20th century. This old item came to me thanks to some friends who found it in a family estate passed down through inheritance. The lighter caught my attention with its design: on one side, there is an engraving of oak leaves, and on the other - a rose. However, its condition left much to be desired: the surface was covered in patina, and the mechanisms had rusted.
The work began with a preliminary cleaning using a metal brush, after which I cleaned the parts in acetic acid. Then, I smoothed out the imperfections and damage by sanding, and polished the body to a mirror finish. The most challenging part was restoring the flint wheel mechanism: the screw was missing, and the tube was deformed from a hammer blow. I replaced it and restored the wick cap mechanism, making some adjustments.
During the restoration, my friends asked me to give the lighter an aged antique look. To achieve this, I used ammonia vapors, which helped artificially age the metal. This was a new and exciting experience for me!
As a result, I was able to preserve the polish while simultaneously adding a characteristic layer of time to the lighter. Now, it looks like a true antique find! I hope you like the result of my restoration and polishing. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!

Hello, my dear viewers! I'm happy to present my new video featuring the restoration of a lighter found at the frontlines of World War II in Europe. This time, I came across a brass specimen, but it had severe corrosion. The flint wheel and spring were irreversibly affected by rust. If the lighter had been made entirely of black metal, it would have rusted away completely by now. I really wanted...

Hello, dear viewers! Today, I have in my hands a lighter found in the trenches of World War I in Eastern Europe. This unique find was given to me for restoration by my friend, who enjoys searching with a metal detector. The lighter's body turned out to be very fragile and thin, so I had to add some metal using copper and nickel. I won't describe too much-you'll see everything for yourselves! I ...

The light...
Bring Back the Flame: Restoration of a 100 year old Lighter
Переглядів 23 тис.10 місяців тому
Hello, my dear viewers. Finally, I received the long-awaited package with a century-old lighter that I bought at an auction. These lighters date back to the late 19th to early 20th century, so it's quite possible that it's over 100 years old. While it was flying to me from Europe, I had already decided that I wanted to cover it in gold, as bronze tends to oxidize quickly and lose its luster. Du...
Amazing Restoration of a vintage lighter “Golden Key”

Hello, friends! Today, I got my hands on this wonderful miniature lighter, the "Golden Key." I bought it on an online auction for a mere pittance with the intention of turning it into a real golden key, covered with a layer of 14-carat gold. According to the seller, the lighter had been lying in a damp basement for a long time, accumulating a thick layer of oxides and patina. I'm very grateful ...

The restoration was carried out to a high standard, but sadly, it lost the unique charm and character that old objects possess. Is it possible to restore items while preserving their aged feel?
