@@tonystevenson26 thanks, it definitely has a charm to it sound and looks-wise. I never had to open the unit when I owned it so not too sure about the battery but I’d assume it’s not too difficult.
It's basically a stripped down Yamaha YS100. - The effects section has been stripped down to delay only (with an edit knob on the backside!) - It uses an external power supply. - It lacks the card slot but therefore it has a second sound bank. - The display has 2x16 characters only (not sure if it's even backlit). - It has some sort of accompaniment section called "Auto Performance Mode" based on the internal FM sounds. Quite weird...and of course using this mode reduces the 8-voice polyphony. - It belongs to the second generation of 4-operator FM synths with 8 waveforms per operator. If you have ever played a YS100/200, B200 or TQ5 you will recognise a lot of the preset sounds.
It’s basically possible to install any of their presets on the DS55. And mess around with YS editor. It’s the keyboard that can disguise itself as any of the other 4-ops. But people still prefer to pay €200 for a DX21 or DX27.
Nice sounds! I remember the first thing I liked about the synth was the design. Very cool looking instrument even today! Thanks for the demo 🙂
I used to use it. I remember it fondly!
My first synth😘
Really nice kbd

It really sounds great...i like your riffs....i had never even known about this yamaha model....is battery easy to replace ?

If it's like the one i own, it is a soldered to the main board CR2032 battery

@@Hwral Yes. 😂
Coz they are "DX" they think its a DX7. They will be sorely disappointed esp with DX27. At least DX21 had chorus and layering
Or DX100 / DC11.@@Hwral
Nice FM-sound, it reminds of the YS100 and V50 ... also, the name hints to the KORG DS8...way better sounding than the spin-off 707
man of those presets are also found on the yamaha v50, the pitch mod and mod wheel, keybed, and grooves above the keybed are also the same to the v50
I had the v50 around 2 yrs. But sold it in order to get a Korg Karma. 😁
Ya la situacion economica sr me hace dificil tenerlo en aquellos tiempo mucho contratos 1988❤❤❤
8:17 Sounds like DX11's sound "Performance Pf" which I assumed was their version of a Grand. You must hear mine!
Piano on 1:32 quite good but my self pgmd Real Grand on DX11 will sound killer on the DS Series as well as on V50
interesting FM synth ...
14:00 wrong frequencies used in Steel Drums
DS55??
Yo trabaje con ese yamahaDx7lld
I had one 😢
I still prefer analog golden age
You mean anything before the DX7? That means you simply dismiss anything from the past 39 years? Um...okay.
@@Hwral Exactly, that´s quite accurate
@@jorgegonzalez3860 What did you think you were going to get from this video?!
Analog is boring. Sawtooth plus a filter? boring. FM and Sampling is way better!!!
Sega Genesis sound tracks are amazingly composed?
