song 1 and 2 are differents sounds but in the display of dx7 shows the same E.Piano1...what is the solution?
@@marcoiacopinelli1693 i ve downloaded some sounds via midi from the yamaha dx7 mk2 sound-bank :)
DX7 = Gold Era of Romantic Ballads
True 🙌🎹
Anita Baker, James Ingraham, I can't name them all. All of them kick butt royally.
DX7 E1. Piano patch/preset
My husband brought home a DX7 II to work on. Our toddler loved that thing. One day it quit working. My son turned 13 this year and asked if he and Dad could tinker with it to get it going again. They did. Suddenly I hear "Jump" chords coming from the playroom. They got it working again! My son is so excited! He only ever wants to listen to 70's and 80's music. Soon I'm going to introduce him to my favorite band - Rush. Thanks for this video!
Yes!! Have fun 🎹🎹
I grew up in the 70's and loved that decade for music. Good for your son. The crap these days belongs in the trash!❤❤❤
@@PepperWilliamsMusicBlend my son would agree with you. No melody. No harmony. No intelligence. Nothing but technobeat.
@@PepperWilliamsMusicBlend Your Comment Doesn't make any sense whatsoever, Because I Just Took A Look At Your UA-cam Channel. 🤷♂️.
This synth created the most beautiful pieces of love and heartache, with this very sound. The 80s was the golden age of music. LONG LIVE THE 80S!
🙌🎹
Yamaha DX7 defined the '80's.
Legendary.
For sure!! 🎹
I agree !
A legend 👏✴️
Some of the best 80’s synth bands never used a DX7… the sparkling, ultra-clean digital sounds would not have suited OMD for example, who preferred the Roland’s, Prophet 5, Korg, etc… and incorporated sampling with Emulators and Fairlight later.
True !
bought mine in 84...still use it today!
Great synth 🎹
Bought mine in 1985. Still have it. Best keyboard ever.
Great synth 🎹
That 11 one is probably one of the warmest and full sounds ever produced. So smooth.
True that 🎹
I used to hate this sound, with a passion. But I love it now, captured an era. Thanks 🙏
Same here ! 🙏🙌🎹
Oh my God! each one more beautiful than the other... these phrases from the 80s are unforgettable and unmatched.
thank you! glad you like it! appreciated 🙏🎹
Say what you like about the DX7 but this video just goes to prove that 80s pop wouldn't have been anything like the same without it's vast influence.... and this is only the electric pianos 😮😮😮
Dx7 the king of 80s 🎹
I would add to the list Korg MI and the Korg 01/W
@@Icybearg for sure!
@@NicolasMelis 🤠🎹💾💻🎵🎼🎶
very true. the DX7 was a real game changer. it had bigger brothers and a smaller brother (DX9) but the DX7 stood out among them all. it's bass lines and its harmonica are among the most used sounds in songs at that time.
DX7 E.P is almost as famous as the Fender Rhodes! Piano 16' from the Korg M1 is another timeless classic patch ❤
yes 🙌
Damn i swear this EP just sounds so magical and heavenly. 😍😍😍
🙌🎹
In the 1993 Jerry Garcia Band version of the song "Shining Star", the Yamaha DX7 internal patch "Electric Piano 1" was heard.
Will check it out!! Thanks for the info 🙏
This and the oberheim ob-x are one of my favorite synthesiser of all time i wish i could have one of these one day!
Hope you will :)
Yes! Beautiful!🤩Nothing is quite like the FM-pianos from the original DX7 ❤🎹
Yess🎹 glad you like it Benjamin 🙌
Goosebumps! Great intros played beautifully on a great synth.
Thank you Skevos! Appreciated 🎹
One of the greatest synths ever made! Bright and individual sounds, very friendly and simple interface.
The DX7 is all over my favorite U2 album The Unforgettable Fire. 👍🏼
🙌🎹
Well played. The D-50 and DX7 still are my favorites.
Thank you! Legendary synths 🎹
Korg M1 a close third
@@BennyboyTruth 🙌
@@BennyboyTruthat one point I had all 3 of those. Sadly they have all gone
This brings back memories - thank you for your video - played very sensitively
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🎹
So many great intros, my God! But Carrie by Europe has a special place in my heart. Great job. I loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🎹🙏
Loved it!!!!

Thank you, Glad you like it!! Appreciated 🙏🎹
Such beautiful sounds. And well played as always
Thank you!! Much appreciated 🎹
Beautiful! DX7 rocks!
Thank you 🎹🎹
Dude, this was marvelous!
Thank you 🙏🎹
This beautiful machine made the 80s the superb decade for music , without it i doubt it would of sounded so good.
Thanks for listening 🙏🎹
Reminds me if working nights at a gas station in the country years ago when I had my first house
Such calming and wonderfull music..
Glad you like it 🎹
The Roland Alpha Juno-1 patch "Bell-Chimes 1" was heard in the Elton John song "Sacrifice".
This is the video I didn't know I needed
🙏🎹
Awesome video!!!!! DX7 and Minimoog 2 of the greatest keyboards ever made. Masser, David foster, not to even mention all the rock bands that used these 2 keyboards. Man you nailed all those songs… Thx for making video…
Thank you 🙏🎹
Fantastic thanks for sharing
thanks for watching 🎹
My fave electric piano sound, great playing
thank you 🙏🎹
@@NicolasMelis I have a dx7 and you inspired to learn all the electric piano ballads
@@brianptguitarkeyboardcover9957 oh that would be great :)
Sensacional 👏👏👏👏👏
Yamaha DX7, maravilhosa fábrica de EPs

nicely played. best synth ever.
Thank you! Gotta love the DX7 🎹
Just realized that dx7 colored my childhood... Thanks Nick for that. Youdabest
Glad you like it Sorin 🙌🎹
Love the songs and the playing. Thank you.
I have the Yamaha modx and it has all these sounds I think.
Glad you like them! I know tha modx has these sounds but are they sound the same like the original?
@@NicolasMelisWell I have the vst version and a lot are the same. I also have the original from the dx7 and they sound the same.
Good to know!! Thank you 🙏
Even more brilliant!
appreciated 🙏🎹
@@NicolasMelisHey, I’m getting a midi keyboard soon, may you suggest some VST to try out? I recently got the Korg Triton VST and I can’t wait to try it out!
@@King-Julien if you want DX7 sounds try Dexed is free and pretty close to the original

Well done, you're playing in nice & soft way! Even l as a keyboardist l enjoyed the demo, because personally l like ballads!
Glad you like it ! Thanks 🙏🎹
Super !!! More please !!! :)
Have to get my dx7 back from the tech and will do some more :)
That piano sound is Yamaha's legacy, i found a very similar sound in their entry level keyboards too in the early 2000s
For sure!! Which models?
@@NicolasMelis it was on one of the PSR models we had at school,
@@procta2343 oh wow cool
this makes a great background track for surfing, the web
Thank You!
🙏🎹
Good vibes❤
Glad you like it 🙏
I have the free Dexed VST on my PC (which is excellent), but I'm very nostalgic for the real thing.
I owned a DX7 II D in the early 2000s, wonderful keyboard with the ability to play two patches at the same time.
But I've never owned the MK1. I love the warm grungy sound of the MK1, the MK2 was much cleaner (and Dexed cleaner again, but it does have a grungy DX7 MK1 mode which is close to the real thing).
I also have the excellent KQDixie app on my iPad, which has a great interference and is DX7 compatible.
But if just like to own a MK1, they're special, not just because of the sound, but the look of the thing, I just love that dark brown color, the 80s aqua colored buttons. It just looks so professional, but also presses all the nostalgia buttons in me.
Gotta love the Dx7 🎹
@@NicolasMelis DX7 Heaven!
Fantastic sounding synth the one and only DX7
Yes 🙌🎹
Piano in the dark ❤
🙌🎹
The most iconic keyboard of all.

Adoro esses sons e você toca maravilhosamente bem! Parabéns!
Thank you 🙏🎹

🙏🙏🎹🎹
Que delícia de ouvir! Ficaria muito mais tempo ouvindo. 🥰
Glad you like it!! Thank you !
Awesome! Thanks, brings back great memories of when music was original and just plagiarised and molested song remixes!
🙏🎹
A few of these songs were actually performed on a Dyno My Piano which preceded the DX7 and definitely was the inspiration for the most used patch on the DX7. Head over to our channel for more info. Check it out:

I was thinking of several other songs. This could have been an hours-long video😂. Some other commenter said it well....'The DX7 defined 80's music'
For sure!! I am collecting requests for the part 3 video :)
@NicolasMelis one thought was "Make It Real" by The Jets
Grew up playing with a DX7 patch in Church was popular in the 90s/2000s post 80s. In Pentecostal circles at least.
I rediscovered 80s Michael W Smith and he used these EP sounds a lot.
Beautiful playing. Dexed is a great free VST that emulates the DX7, I wonder what the best patches would be to create this.
Dexed is great, i think you can load the same patches which i use here on my Dx7, they don’t sound as full as in the original though but they are pretty close
Thank you for doing this and similar videos. Great E-piano sounds. I got the MK2 Full tines sample, but the real thing would be better. I should really get a DX7. Never owned one, because I was much into Korg in the 90s.
Great synth! Korg also had some great synths in the 90s
@@NicolasMelis Yes they did. I still have a T3 and X5, used to have a Wavestation and 01/W, also played Trinity and M1 quite a bit.
it feels like I go back in timexd
Glad you like it 🎹
im an engineer but given this relaxing time,i always cherish this childhood memories
@@NicolasMelis
"Never Gonna let You Go" by Sergio Mendes was released before The DX7 came out and actually sounds like a Fender Rhodes. Nice playing though. Keep up the good work. I've learned quite a bit from your videos. I wish you'd do tutorials.
Really? I ve read online that it was a Dx7.. anyway :) thank you , what kind of tutorials are you interested in?
@@NicolasMelis I'm interested in learning lot of these songs because you seem to play them so accurately. It's easer to follow when there's an on-screen keyboard that shows which notes are being played. Otherwise it's sometimes hard to tell. Thanks.
I had the same thought re: Sergio Mendes. I also used to think Whitney's first album was recorded before it came out but I guess it was all in the same year 1983?
@@Turnip3 Yeah Mendes sounds like a Dyno'd (modified) Rhodes piano with swirly chorus effect. Very lush.
thank you Nicolas! so beautiful. Can you do a Wurlitzer too please. Lets here some Super Tramp. Thanks so much!!
Hi Robert! I ve already did a video with Wurlitzer songs! It’s on my youtube channel check it out !
🤠✌🏻CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!🤠✌🏻
🙏🙏🎹
These take me right back into that time… Europe, Whitney… so many amazing songs. I have the exact same keyboard. What do the reverb and chorus effects do?
I ve used a bit of the Valhalla reverb
Un synth che ha fatto la storia
Yes 🙌
I have a DX100 and a DX7 and I must say my DX7 out does the DX100 and any other synthesizer I have .
Great synth 🎹
I love the sound of three of these tunes (“Greatest Love of All”; “Saving All my Love for You”; “Never Gonna Let You Go”) on the DX7. Weren’t they originally performed on a Rhodes piano, not a synthesizer?
I don’t mind being proved mistaken.
I am not entirely sure but i think some of those songs used many layers of sounds including rhodes dx7 yamaha cp etc, so you might be right:)
So could you, @@NicolasMelis.
@@Shred_The_Weapon yeah but i just wanted to play only the dx7 :)
It was a modified Rhodes piano, not a stock one! Dyno-My-Piano modified Rhodes sounded much sweeter! They did use DX7 on tours, and probably later studio albums.
Thank you, @@stakor. That’s what I thought I was hearing, one of the modified Dino-my-Rhodes units.
@NicolasMelis:
Owww mannn... you are the boss.
😁🎹
Deeply regret selling DX7. Waited on a list for 3 months when it first came out to get mine. Later got the E! upgrade which was also fab. Played it for 20 years + and sold it. I miss the action of the keyboard - light and fast and sensitive and of course the sounds…
Legendary synth 🎹
With the Grey Matter Response upgrade, the DX-7 was even better with improved chorus and tonal richness as well as more patch memory. It took a great keyboard and made it even better.
what is the Grey Matter Response upgrade?
@@NicolasMelisIt was a board and an EEPROM you could add which gave you tons more patch storage and also allowed you to double up notes on one key press where the two tones could be off just a bit to generate a richer or chorus sound. The more patches was really great. You did have to solder some wires on some of the chips but they were 16 pin dips and easy to attach to.
@@paulsylvester1394 wow didn’t know about that! Will check out! Thanks 🙏
Hi, thanks for this moment of happyness ! Wich patches do You use ? I have an original DX7 with all factory patches and I don't have those. They are fabulous !
Hi, glad you like it! I ve used the factory el piano on the Dx7 and also the Full Tines preset from the dx7 mk2 sound bank which i ve found online
Is it possible to tell me which rom cartridge contains also the factory internal voices? I keep having the internal battery issue, and keeps forgeting the tones… thank you very much
I think its called rom1 factory presets, you can search it on google to be sure
@@NicolasMelis thank you very much
Suaranya sangat bagus
Thank you 🙏
Its that digital sound that people love.
True :)
Could you please tell me what affects you are running and how I’ve just got a dx7 and I’m in the market for some effects but don’t know where to start so if you could help me out that would be awesome thanks or have you done a video on this already?
I ve used a bit of Valhalla reverb
So good. A bit piercing around 1kHz though.
Yeah true 😁
I’d love to hear Last Wave from the high score board of Out Run played on one of these.
Will check it out! Thanks 🙏
How does it sound so great and spacious with just a mono output ?
I ve used a bit of reverb :)
(1:36) I think Sergio did play a real Fender Rhodes electric piano for that song. regardless of that you have very good handiwork. I had a DX7 many years ago but had I to sell it. I miss it and would love to buy me one of the newer versions of it, I think they called the DX7II FD
Thank you 🙏 i did have to sell mine too cause my space its very small, i regret it but it is what it is :)
Top 10 reasons why I want a DX7 for future music purposes:
We sure the first EP sound is from that DX7? Sounds more like its been taken from the Tyros or Genoa etc - I owned a DX7 and I remember it sounded like the Billy Ocean track
I ve downloaded the full tines preset from the dx7 mk2 soundbank online on my dx7
It is said that most songs used the factory patches of the dx7 because it's very cumbersome to program
Its very difficult to program it at least for me :)
Chicago ❤
🙌🎹
You play so well! I am only at grade 1!
忘れもしない、キーホードの歴史を変えた名器。ここから新しい歴史が始まった。
🙏🎹
Aye dude, do you have these saved in a file or something so we can download and put it in our dx7’s?
Hey , you can find everything online , just google yamaha dx7 sound banks
Hey @NicolasMelis
In almost all the Yamaha DX7 video demonstrations I've seen on UA-cam, there seems to be a slight 'Reverb' effect.
Did you add that with post production, or is that just a normal feature of the DX7?
Hey, i ve added a bit of reverb on my daw while recording it :)
❤
🙏🎹
There are so many synths that has e piano sound over the years but no one comes close to the sound of fulltines
true 🎹
Part of the DX7 magic is the way it responds to your fingers and hands... the keybed is fantastic. If you've played one, you know.... The midi velocity of 0 to 100 vs the 0 to 127 is the only shame of this wonderful instrument.
True that !
i think some of kenny g song played with this sound like Pastel, Sentimental, Forever In Love...
Most probably yes, many songs of the 80s have used this particular El Piano sound
Nope. Kenny G used Roland JD-800 (preset Crystal Rhodes). It is also very sweet sounding, on par with FullTines!
Carrie ❤️
🙌🎹
Решает не инструмент, а правильно подобранная партия, а в данном случае очень вкусно и грамотно, и сыграно и подобрано. А еще и записано достаточно качественно.
Glad you like it !! Appreciated 🙏🎹
Sounds amazing, out of interest how did you get the greatest love of all sound exactly?
Thank you! I ve layered the Dx7 El Piano preset with the full tines preset from
Dx7 mk2 sound bank and a bit of reverb
@@NicolasMelis ah ok cool thank you, I was thinking about getting one but I’m brand new to synths, is the layering done in the DAW, or is there a specific setting on the unit?
@@robbienicol9966 just played it twice with the two different sounds :)
@@NicolasMelisah perfect thank you very much

My e piano patch on my dx7 doesn’t sound so deep and juicy. Makes me wonder if something is wrong with mine. Is this with any effects?
Hi, i am writing in the description that i have used some effects in some intros! Thanks
The song by sergio Mendes reminds me of James by Billy Joel.
Thats a great tune! 🎹
Whoa, I thought the piano intro to Sacrifice was played on a Roland D50?
I think it was on a Dx7 :)
Play the opening intro to Carie by Europe.
