Adding water for mixing taping mud when using a compound tube

This is just a general guide to adding water for mixing taping mud used in a compound tube. Not all brands of mud are the same thickness to start with so the amount of water will vary. I use a taping mud which has more glue in it than regular all purpose mud. Because of this extra glue you are able to water it down considerably without losing it's gluing properties. As taping mud sits it starts to thicken up a bit anyway. Ambient temperature makes a difference too. The warmer your mud is the more water it is likely to want. I prefer taping in a cool environment if possible because the mud stays "looser" longer and you don't have to add as much water.
