Did this job on my Octavia last week. You could grow spuds in the dirt build up on this Golf, my car had very little, unless someone had cleaned it out before but I doubt it. Took the whole liner out and cleaned behind, then sprayed area with Dynax UC. Removed sponge, which seems to hold water at the bottom and haven't replaced it. Haven't noticed any increase in road noise inside the car and have driven through some heavy rain with no apparent problem of water going where it shouldnt.
Great video. I have a 2021 GTI. In the states theres is a spray called Fluidfilm, which is basically linseed oil, and it is a great rust inhibitor.... I think I will do this project soon before the winter.... thanks so much!
It would have been a lot easier if you had just removed the wheel as you already had it on a lift. But thanks for a very helpful video 👍👍👍👍 if you can get Bilt Hamber products they are well worth trying I’ve used them on my GT-R and 911 wheel arches.
Thanks for this video. I've just noticed some rust on the bottom edge of the drivers door on my GTI... I'm guessing I have this exact problem. I know what I'll be doing next weekend!
Great find, thank you. I have question. Is there a possibility to stop that dirt coming above. Maybe by extending the water drains down by a plastic hose?
Because they are so big and not round is imposible to find something that fits there...just clean and grease/wax that area every 6 months and you fill be safe...by adding a hose you have the risk in the winter to freeze and stop the water flow...all the water will go thru your interior fan housing. Thx for watching sir
Wow I've a 2014 seat leon with rust just starting. The person I bought it off must park it under a tree cause all behind the arch its blocked with soggy mulch. Nightmare 😢
Really stupid design. And yet they have just continued in the same path for years. Volkswagen dont give a shit. As long as you know this, its easy to prevent rust, but anyway, it shouldnt be like this!

Thank you for sharing! I love VW and would like VW to address that design issue to avoid the rust.
Thx for watching sir...

Thx for watching sir...
I'm going to do the exact same thing with my 2022 Seat leon, I'll be using ACF 50..

My Video ended at 4 : 00 .
Not removing the wheel and the whole cover in the fender is a bit strange...
3 minutes of work, less complication...
Great find, thank you.

Why would u put the sponge back it doesnt help with anything..
It's sound deadening.
Helps with perceived quality, most important thing.
