    Thank you very much for this very good video! What do you mean when you say that you ”sealed” the sill before paint?

    • @Supercarlsunday

      Thank you. Where its welded along the lower seam, it must be sealed up to stop water getting in. Any welds on front or rear edges also.

    when you lay the replacement sill over the existing bodywork, cut both and weld, do you run into issues with clearances on the doors? I have to do this on a mk5 golf and i see the front door already touches the sill at the very front when open. i dont know how its not going to give me a major problem. Also what are the screws under the new sill attaching to on the other side? Any issues with rust where these screws go through the new sill and what they go into inside? (thanks for your time)

    • @Supercarlsunday
      @Supercarlsunday  29 днів тому

      I never have any issues because I have been doing it for years. If the gap is tight. Knock it down with a piece of wood. Put a piece of wood on it and tap it down with a hammer. What screws do you mean underneath? Are they the temporary ones i have put in to hold the panel maybe? If so, they are removed once the panel is tacked in place and the holes welded up

    • @03056932
      @03056932 29 днів тому

      @Supercarlsunday thanks. Yes I meant the screws underneath.
      I was thinking more about the video and wondered if I was being stupid - when you cut through the new and old sill at the same time, are you then removing the old part from underneath? Is this to make the top of old sill and beginning of new one meet up perfectly? I ask because I can't see any transition where you would have had to use filler to mask the 1mm higher new panel blending into the old if they remained overlapped .. Thanks again

    • @Supercarlsunday
      @Supercarlsunday  29 днів тому

      @03056932 you remove the old panel underneath and butt weld the new panel where you have removed the old one. You can also put a piece behind the join to weld to. Some people do this and some people don't. It's good to do if your not a great welder. The screws underneath are temporary to hold panel in place.

    Hello mate,
    I have watched this video a few times now and I really like your work. I couldn’t find a way to personally message you (don’t know how to lol) to enquire about you doing the same job for my VW Polo, same shape (2010 5 door). The car holds sentimental value to me as well as being my daily for at least the next few years until I can afford the dream whip. I am based near Newcastle and would be more than willing to drop my car off and cover any expenses. The side sills are bad but not horrendous and I would like the sills fully replaced and repainted like what you have done here rather than just patching it up so to speak like what a couple of people I’ve spoken to said they would do. in addition if you’d be interested there are some other minor rust spots on the car that I need taking care of.
    If you would be interested in helping me please do get in touch to discuss further, again I really like the standard of your work and there doesn’t seem to be anyone near me that would do as good a job. Cheers.

      Hi, I haven't seen the video for a while. However, I usually dress back any rust and treat it with like a k rust or a nitromorse rust treatment. A zinc primer and a weld through zinc primer where it will be welded. Then I wax oil it when it's done through a hole and seal with grommet.

    You did an awsome job. May I ask what's they average cost to do this if say customer supplies the new sills. I'm just asking as I need new sills on my rover 620si and it's just so I can make sure I've saved enough money so know of an average cost as nowhere will tell me when I ask. I know an exact cost can never be given and I don't want that just a baseline to go off.

    • @Supercarlsunday
      @Supercarlsunday  4 місяці тому

      I would take it to a body shop that you would be using and ask them for a price to do the job. If your stating you will supply your own sills thats probably why no one is giving you a price. Most body shops won't be interested. When people start wanting to supply there own panels, strait away it tells you they want the job doing as cheap as possible, the customer doesn't trust you, there can be problems with payment down the line if the job gets bigger.. body shops see this as a red flag. A job can get bigger once you remove the old sills, there could be welding that needs to be done behind. Jobs like this are not straight forward. No two jobs are the same and body shops charge different prices. I won't price anything unless I'm doing the job. This is the best I can do to answer your question, sorry.

      Thank you. It depends how bad yours are and where there putting them in. Not every job is the same. Body shops have there own hourly rates and prices, one will do it for one price than the next can be totally different. Id like to think you would get what you pay for. 10 out of 10 for stating the obvious buddy, however not everyone has the funds at the time unfortunately and prior to the damage the sill would have been fair rotten anyway. It was quite badly damaged so a repair to the original sill panel would have been a few quid anyway. There not really at a great loss with this one and i looked after them anyway. @@Supercarlsunday You did a good job repairing. I do know alot of people don't have the funds as prices are stupid for some parts and labor is too. My neighbour's got a Sharan and the front wing was gaffer taped up so out of kindness bought him a front wing that was in better condition.

    • @Supercarlsunday

      Thank you and that was good of you. The labour rate is cheap when you add up all the costs of running a body shop, garage, constant costs of tools, equipment, bills and materials. The clothing and footwear that your constantly having to replace, the shit your breathing in, the cuts the burns, the knocks, the wear on your joints. Its a very labour intense job, a young man's game. Its funny the amount of people that think people like me are living the dream until they have ago themselves. You can't imagine the costs honestly. Working late nights to get jobs in to paint and back to my customers. I have a very understanding wife and so does anyone else in the game I can tell you mate. The hours that go in to most my projects, I hardly ever hit my labour rate by the time there done and the hours that go in to the bikes is crazy. One of the reason there is so many shocking repairs out there is because people rush the work to make a decent wage and stuff the customer. I can't do it, I care to much.
