This happened to me right at the gas station. Watched this video and I just manually clicked it to Drive with somebody pressing on the brake. Drove home and fixed it there 🙌🏽 Thank you!
My Jeep wouldn't shift into gear while trying to leaving Sonic tonight so I googled problems and this was first video found. I crawled underneath and sure enough, my bushings were completely gone. This video probably saved me hundreds in mechanic bills.
This absolutely saved me thousands I just fixed this in the pouring rain held it together with some gum at first to get me to the auto store it worked then fixed it in the handicapped parking space of auto zone soaking wet but I can’t thank you enough for the save car running like a dream again
This saved me too! I called my dad, classic daddys girl. He's a mechanic and he told me what to troubleshoot. He then sent me this video. I had zipties so no gum needed haha . But I was just so grateful to just get it out of the middle of the parking lot and into a space !!!
Wheeled the rest of the day Saturday with a zip tie on it ha! Bushing was AWOL so needed to see what it should look like thanks for the video. BTW this is a sketchy job with a hot vehicle.
Thank you so much! I found a few things during my install. 1) remove the two outside bolts holding on the rock guard, and just loosen the middle one - you can push/swivel the rock guard out of the way which helped me alot (more access). 2nd: I think this was mentioned - but put the 14055 bushing part in hot water. Push one side of the bushing into the hole, then with a small screw driver and "ease" it into the hole. I was getting prepared to stab myself with the screw driver and blow a bunch of 4 letter words in pain, and then magically it simply slipped in. I wish you the same luck. Lastly, put the Jeep in a gear to get the cable at the best spot for access. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!!!!!
Online with that part number, and part, I had to cut the flange off, as well as put a copper shim all the way through the inside of the bushing, so it would lock on to the pin Have you had any problems with this or anything like this?
@@martinwilliams9453 I'm running strong - no problems. 200K on my '08, and all is good. HOpe I didn't mislead you. I only used the bushing part, which seemed a waist but got me moving.
Broski thank you for a great to the point video! After watching your video I was able to fix my Jeep in the parking lot of a 7-11. Well I placed the cable back in place until I got it home to do a correct fix.
Thanks for the very helpful video. One step to I did to gain access to the cable was removing the 2 bolts that hold that cable bracket to frame. With shifter in Park, the cable dropped down for easy access to insert the bushing
Any tricks to getting the bushing into the cable?? I worked on getting it into there for hours!!! Had to call it a night. The old bushing had two notches but the one i got does not. Parts store said the notches shouldn't make a difference. But i was fighting and the damn thing would not go in
Very very helpful but how in the world were you able to pop that bushing in? My cable has also no bend to pull it down near the drive shaft like you were able to.
These bushings did not fit my 2008 JKU, I fought with them for an hour trying to get them in. I had to order the correct fitment from Amazon and will have to wait for it to arrive tomorrow.
Great video and very informational! Thank you! I have a 2008 JKU Rubicon automatic transmission and have a weird issue. When I shift the gear lever to manual 1 or 2, the instrument cluster does not show the 1 or 2 and only D is indicated. And when I shift back to D or R or P, then all the indicators are lit up. Anyone here know why it might be?
mine did this today...put in drive to leave, had to put back in park to grab something, got back in to put in drive and nope lol. my bushing just crumbled when i touched it. still need to put the new one in
Hi thank you for posting this video, I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler X Unlimited & yesterday my gear shift got stuck in park position but the gear was actually stuck on the Neutral position, I had my jeep towed to my mechanic & picked it up today, I was in hurry to get to work & didn’t get a chance for him to explain what he did to fix my problem, however I was charged &109.00 for “Shift Repair” (whatever that means) , do you think I was ripped off? Because If he did what you just showed here I doubt that would cost $109 dollars for that job?
Prob charged $20 for the part, and $80 for an 'hour' (minimum) of labor. It's really about a 5-10 min job, so you prob just got charged for the part ($12.99 at AutoZone) and a 1 hour labor minimum.
Thank you for this! Not sure yet if it's my issue but seems inexpensive enough to try it. I'm stuck in Neutral after using the pressing the "Park release button" next to the Shifter...
I found mine dangling just like in the video!!! I'm so excited to know the issue. Also, I've not done a lot of "mechanical" things, so it's pretty exciting to be able to do this myself AND save some money 🤘🤘
Just smashed that like button harder than whitney Houston at a free crack giveaway. Mine fell off in my yard and couldnt get going until watching this video
Just followed this repair 2 days ago and it just happened again. too hot to get up to it right now and push it back on. Appears to be several different bushings out there. Try them all or is there one better that the others?
The one I have listed on the description worked perfectly on two repairs I have done. Sometimes it feels like it’s on, but needs a bit more push to really lock in place. There may be other bushings out there, but o just ran with the one that worked for me.
Thank you. If you are in a store parking lot and this happens, use picture hanging wire and needle nose pliers to rig it enough to make it home. Pin this.
It is similar, but the linkage has bars and a rotation that the transmission does not have. You might check the shift rod or adjusting trunion underneath. I haven’t had that problem yet, sorry!
The parts store and Dorman both say that the Dorman part #14055 is not compatible, however it worked just fine on my 2008 Wrangler. It can be very tricky to get inside the cable eyelet, and it didn't snap on to the transmission shifter arm as tightly as an OEM cable, but it did work and likely will do so for some time. I will add that you should soak the new bushing in hot water to make it a tad more pliable for installation. Also, if you have 4 wheel drive, it will be close to impossible to get a grip on the cable eyelet to press the bushing in. There is a bracket, maybe 8 inches towards the engine, that the holds the cable in place. That bracket is fastened with 2 bolts that a 13mm wrench/socket will fit. If you un bolt the bracket, it'll allow to bring the end of the cable to hang out into the open where it'll be far easier to get the bushing in. A pair of snap ring pliers would work to remove the cable from the bracket, but you have to have a pair and the space to use them is extremely limited. Just un bolt the bracket. You'll likely need a fairly long 13mm box end wrench because it's difficult to get the right combination of socket/extension/ratchet to fit in the space available. And lastly, that bushing was about $15 from VatoZone (that's here in Texas, everywhere else they are called AutoZone), and a few weeks after installing the bushing, Amazon showed me a whole replacement shifter cable (that I might be interested in) for $29.90 which seemed free compared to the original equipment Jeep price of $145.00. Like I said, the bushing worked fine but didn't snap on to the shifter arm as tightly as I would have expected. I'm not the daily driver of the Jeep, and I didn't want it to strand the driver or make me go to where it was to put a temp fix on, so I ordered the whole cable and replaced it a few weeks later. I had to remove the shifter console and the bolts holding the firewall seal boot where a real PITA, but I cleaned out all the spilled drinks and crap out of the console, and found over $4.00 in change plus a handful of pens that were trying to get jammed up in the parking brake or transfer case and transmission shifters. I kept the change as that was as much payment I could expect for all that. Lol

If you can squeeze a pair of channel locks or pliers up there, you can pop it in. I just used a small pry bar and pliers to pop it in place.
Im dealing with same thing. Its actually impossible
Which side was it underneath?

Is this part number also compatible with wrangler jeep rubicon 2011?
Yes it is
Would this also be the same for a manual transmission?
I have no idea, but I would think a manual would be a direct shift, not any sort of cable.
Super helpful video. Thanks you so much!

Wow
My bushing is good but it still won’t shift
Can you manually shift it from underneath? If so, the cable may have come loose from the connection at the shifter under the center console trim.
