  • My 2009 Jeep Wrangler X wouldn't go into PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, or any other gear.
    Turns out it was the gear shift lever cable bushing located inside the console area.
    Let me show you that you don't need to remove the whole console to get this fixed.
    You can do it with some simple tools, and a $20 replacement part.

    Fantastic video on how you don't have to remove the entire console in order to replace the bushing. Saved me a lot of time and effort. Thanks!

      @@hillcountrygarage I have one question for you. My gear shift selector wont move at all when i push the side button on the gear shift selector. I was able to more the console following your instruction. The cable and bushing is connected to the spindle. Do you know what could cause the gear shift selector not to move?

      @@etaup02 Man, that's tough. I assume the spring mechanism on the button is working. If so, it could be related to an electrical issue. Maybe the brake light switch. Check that your brake lights come on. Or it could be the shifter interlock solenoid. The brake light switch should be located somewhere above the brake pedal, and the interlock solenoid will be inside the console on the side of the shifter. I wish I could be there with you to track this one down.

      One more thing I forgot to mention, there should be an over-ride switch that you could access without taking out the console. Check your owners manual, since I'm not sure of the year Jeep your working with.

    So luckily mine was still intact under the console. It turned out to be the one under the car which had slipped off the spindle. So it was a much easier fix😊 but thanks for sharing,this is new knowledge definitely going to be put to use! Blessings friend 🧡

      That's awesome. I've actually had to do both. I guess it depends on if you like crawling under the Jeep, or tearing apart the console, huh? Glad you got it handled and didn't have to go to the "stealership".

    Awesome!!! I watched a bunch of idiots videos showing how to do this including one that had you take the front tire off! This became a 5 minute fix after watching your video. THANKS!!

      I know, right? Why make it harder than it has to be. I went that route myself, until I finally realized what was broken. I'm glad it was helpful and worked to get you back "in gear". LOL! Thanks for watching and for leaving me this great comment.

      @@deborahmarie6827 It can be a bit "tricky" getting the bushing on the spindle. Be careful not to let it drop down into the console. Please let me know how it works out.

    Just pulled this section apart and my original spindle is still connected and the bushing is in place….now what?

    • @hillcountrygarage
      @hillcountrygarage  6 місяців тому

      It could be the bushing on the side of the transmission case. We've had to change out both. You'll have to get under the Jeep and reach up on the side of the case on the drivers side. You'll see the linkage where it connects.

    Will that same bushing work if its the one on the transmission ?

    • @hillcountrygarage
      @hillcountrygarage  26 днів тому +1

      The Dorman package was labeled that it was for the transfer case. However, For that link I actually used a Dorman 14055.

    How the hell did you push that back on there? I got the bushing on but can't get that black cable connector over it

    • @hillcountrygarage
      @hillcountrygarage  5 місяців тому +1

      If the cable won't slide over the bushing on the spindle, take the bushing off of the spindle and insert it into the cable, then slide the whole works over the spindle.
