Awesome bud thanks , this just happened this morning . I've had the one underneath break before but first time on this one . i was about to tow it but not now thanks again
Just a heads up, you don’t have to remove the console to replace this bushing. Just remove the black part of the console. This black part runs under the dash just a bit and all the way back to the console. It also houses your cup holders. Lift lid on console, pull parking break all the way up as far as you can, grab the plastic opening slot for and around your e brake and pull up. You will also need to remove the flat plastic piece below where your ac and heater controls are so you’ll be able to pop out that black center console part.
Thanks for the help it happened to me after snow blowing and I had to call a tow truck luckily I wasn’t far from home. Jeep did a bad job designing it Again thanks for the help
You wont be stranded if you get under the Jeep and manually shift the vehicle into drive. Of course you'll need someone in the vehicle to keep their foot on the brake when you put it in to gear. But you can drive it home that way. I had to do this today. Fortunately it broke at the auto parts store and there were lots of people willing to help me.
I know ridiculously expensive for a piece of plastic! The Jeep dealer will completely hose you, they wanted $15 for 1! Yeah that should do it for ya, they are a pain the ass to get on…thanks for the comment. This was one of my earlier older vids on the channel when I first started. I could have done a better job on the process I guess. Good luck to you you’ll get it…
Man, this little bushing is no joke trying to put on! Any tips? I can’t get it on for the life of me. Short of getting a hammer and a tamp, and breaking the shift cable in the process, what else can I do to get this in? Specific order? Put it in the cable or on the shifter first? I tried both and still no luck.
Hey Joshua did you get that thing on. Sorry for the late response. Another thing you can try is to squeeze it together from the back of the rod cable. Sandwich it, and squeeze the 2 together. That would give it enough tension to pop it on the rod. Worth a try. I did put the bushing into the cable first and forced it on, finally "popped on." Pain in the a** though for sure. Good luck.
@@outboundterrain6454 Hello..Thank you very much for the video. I'm about the attempt the process... I was told that getting the console over the parking brake. handle was nearly impossible without removing the rear wheel and releasing the caliper from the brake assembly. That seems like quite a bit of work, so I'd put off trying to change the bushing, thinking that I'd jack up something with my brake.. Maybe that is what Sergio is asking about??
Well, with the assistance of my son, I was able to get the console over the parking brake. handle, and off! It helped to have one person pulling the console unit from the rear and the other person working it free from the front. Pulling the front, lower trim piece with the small netting off helped, and I believe is necessary. From inside the console and from the rear, I was able to depress the parking brake (thumb) button, and that allowed just enough clearance. Dang, the area is filthy... Need to do some cleaning before reassembling the area. Maybe time to put a different gear shifter on as well?? Thank again for your help!
Sorry Joshua it's a challenge to get that thing on. I had to use a fine piece of sandpaper to take down a bit of the plastic/urethane upper ring on the bushing. A little at a time until it finally slid over and snapped onto the rod, that lithium grease helped, but mostly it was frustration and sanding. Hope you get it on...Chris
@@outboundterrain6454 Thank you! Did you put it on the rod first, because I can get it on the rod with no problem. It’s when I try to slide the shifter cable over it is when I have the issue. I tried putting it in the cable “eye” first but that didn’t work either. I’ll take you advice and carefully sand it down mm by mm til it goes in. Again, thanks for replying. Keep up the good work
@@outboundterrain6454 thanks! I ended up taking it in to the dealership bc I needed it to be repaired by Monday. Jsuk they are charging $210 for 3 of those bushings to be replaced. My problem was actually the bushing connecting the shifter cable to the transmission located under the vehicle next to the drive shaft. Your video was still incredibly helpful. At least I knew where the problem was so I didn’t get shafted any extra by the dealership. Thanks for sharing.
@@dylanbishop8550 Thanks Dylan! I'm glad I could help you a bit. Yeah that one underneath is tough... And crap that's expensive. The stealer-ship, ripping off people for decades...
Thanks on heads up on which screws to remove, probably saved me hours of work and a 12 pack and a visit to my therapist
No prob! Glad it helped ya…

Nice, didn't know that. Thx Jake, that'll help some of the people out here...Thanks for the comment...
True, you don't need to remove the whole console for the gear selector cable bushing, but you do for the 4WD gear selector, unfortunately.
I have an 07’ myself and this happened to me earlier today and mine looked the same hahaha this video has saved me . TY!
Awesome my friend. Glad it could help you out! Thanks for visiting the channel…
THANKS SO MUCH FOR PART NUMBER! Looked everywhere for that damn thing

No prob, glad it helped…
Thanks for the video
No prob hope it helped!
good video. would have liked to see how you actually pressed that assembly together.
Thanks man, yeah you're right, I should have been more detailed about how I pressed that thing together. It's a common problem.
Yeah that's what I wanted to see too. But great video, much appreciated
Saved my ass! Thanks
Cool! Man I’m glad I could help ya….
Thanks for such informative videos..
Your welcome! Working on better ones so be sure to check back...

@@outboundterrain6454 that’s what I ended up doing. Using pliers and it worked. Man it was a pain in the butt tho
I put some wheel grease on the bushing and pulled it through with needle nose using the bridge across the bushing, then snapped it on the linkage.
Helpful thanks
Thank you glad it helped…
Thanks man but how do you remove the parking brake?
Do mean removing the console with the parking brake? Or removing the whole parking brake assembly? Thx for the comment…

Maybe keep the wire on with the new bushing..
