Great work Dave. Keep it up. I am a hybrid athlete mainly because I love Spartan OCR so training for those has kinda made me hybrid by requirement. This seems like a crazily hardcore program. I guarantee I’d get injured in the first month! 😂
Happy to be within your first 100 subscribers. Found you when I was searching for more info on Nick’s program and you have delivered great info on it through your efforts! Good luck with the growth of your channel
Just subbed as the 100th subscriber! Your first triple digits. Looking forward to you blowing up the subscriber count. Only way is upwards now! Keep it up, really enjoy your in depth explanations
Thank you! Took some dedication to slog through as the volume built up. I will be happy to make some content around strength training. Are you looking for information on strength training in general or specific to runners?
Hey Dave, one thing you didn’t touch on with this program is how you dealt with recovery. I have found I really struggle with consistent or fast runs after high volume workouts in the gym. I really struggled on a 10k this morning after a pretty high volume session on Wednesday and had painful/tired legs. How did you manage this in your experience of this program?
I didn't hit on recovery details in this video just to keep it from getting too long, but I will get together a dedicated video to the "accessories" that I mention in this video that include recovery. The quick answer would be dynamic warm-up before the lift and static stretching afterwards. Recovery that night in the form of soft tissue work (foam roll, massage) and then dynamic stretching, muscle activation, and a good warm up to loosen up before the run. It's a lot of work! That's why I want to dedicate an entire video to it. Stay strong and keep at it! 💪🏃
I would add that Nick probably assumes 6 min miles so an hour for him would be 10 so 12 miles would only be 1:12 and 15 would be 90 mins. But unrealistic if you aren’t a 5 min miler.
The program does show estimated time to complete for the 10/12 mile workouts (now that I've done them the estimations are gone) and if I remember correctly the estimations were around 9-10 minute miles
Hi Bob! I currently juggle quite a few responsibilities, primary among those being a husband, father, and holding down a full-time job so I would say the answer is yes! Probably a great topic for a future video!
@@DaveDoesFitness thanks for the reply, appreciate it, I only ask as I’m into my weight training but have just signed up to my first marathon for next year and am looking for best way to combine the two and I don’t have to give up the weights.
Thank you Shawn, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I agree that the programming may look good on paper, but it is just too much for most people. I think the few changes I propose would at least help if someone is set on trying the program.
@@DaveDoesFitness i agree. Great gains can be made in as little as 6 sets per muscle group per week, provided we have a good proximity to failure. Good luck on the channel. I like the idea of more hybrid fitness channels on UA-cam.
Hi Dave, seems like a great channel that you're building. Kudos. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on how I could improve my fitness or any feedback on my current program/goals. I'm currently 26 years old, 163 pds and 6.3 in height. I'm trying to put on some weight (as you may have guessed), but I dislike the idea of eating like a mad dog because it seems unhealthy, and I don't in general eat anything unhealthy (sweets, deserts, drink soda, etc.). I don't take any supplements or use caffine, etc. My current fitness goals are to bench 1x my body weight, squat 1.25x and deadlift 1.25x. I'm slowly getting there with my Legs/Push/Pull (monday/wednesday/friday) program. But after many weeks I don't seem to put on any weight. Furthermore, I do some running, but haven't settled on any weekly milage goals or workouts. I want to do a half marathon in under 2 hours next summer (16. June). My first half-mara was 2:30 and my second was 2:17 in a very manageable form, so now I want to make the jump to under 2 hours. Any ideas on weekly milage to aim for? Best regards, Christian
It’s a little hard to give generic advice with little data etc. one question your goals aren’t about muscular size or mass - your running is improving and your strength is improving - maybe your program is working ?
Hi Christian, thank you for the kind words on the channel! You have a tricky situation and I'd rather give you straight forward advice even if it may not be what you want to hear. It is very difficult to both add muscle, increase strength, all while increasing cardio fitness, particularly if you are naturally an ectomorph don't put on weight easily. It is likely best to focus on improving one of those goals and put the other into maintenance mode. So if you'd like to increase size and strength then you would have to just maintain your running. If you struggle for weight look toward calorie dense foods like natural sources of fat (peanut butter, avocados, etc) and I know you said you don't use any supplements , but if you'd like to build up then probably look into supplementing with protein powder and creatine monohydrate. Hope this is helpful and gets you on the right track! Hang around the channel and hopefully I can keep delivering some information to help you with your goals. 💪

Yes! 100! Thank you 👍
I'm glad you're liking the videos so far. I'll do my best to keep pumping out good content. Let's get it! 💪
I like the start of your channel. Keep building on it and you will do well.
I would like to see your design of the program as well.
Thanks so much Kevin. I appreciate it!
I'll keep working to build it up and start to work on my own hybrid program 💪
Great Info and great job!!
Congrats on completing the hybrid athlete program!!! Dave, could you please share your strength training on this channel.

Do a video adding the way you would do it. I would love to try it. I'm a kinda beginner

Do you think it’s possible to be a “hybrid athlete” and have a day job?

That's great! 1st marathon is a big one. Definitely stay tuned as I'll be covering a lot of that type of content 💪
I like Nick, but I don’t think this program is very well thought out. The amount of lifting programmed is unrealistic for 99% of people. Good video.
