Renzo Gracie Legacy is a 2008 documentary film. A 10 year history of mixed martial arts through the eyes of Renzo Gracie, one of its most charismatic pioneers.
That speech from his father at about 50 minutes in... that is truly what life is all about! Family and time, not money and toys. What we do for ourselves dies with us, what we do for others lives on forever.
Some deep, deep words from Renzo's dad Robson at 52:30 or so.... "There is nothing more gratifying than watching the sun rise on a beach with your loved ones, while everyone else is looking to get rich."
Brazilian here, and I think I can explain that *craziness* in an simple way: it's all about intensity. The more intense the moment the more alive you feel, it's all about how much *now* you can take. Nothing like actual battle for your life to take you there.
I had the opportunitty to hangout with Ryan sometimes in Brazil, he and Renzo was pretty close and Ryan made Renzo looks a quiet guy. haha they are badass.
YEAH WELL THEIR ACCENT IS PORTUGESE. SOME PEOPLE STILL FORGET THAT IN BRAZIL THEY SPEAK PORTUGESE, NOT SPANISH. THAT'S WHY IF YOU DON'T KNOW THAT OR FORGOT, YOU CAN'T QUITE PUT YOUR FINGER ON WHY THEY DON'T SOUND LIKE THEY REALLY HAVE A SPANISH ACCENT, BUT SOMETHING REALLY CLOSE. I CAN'T DESCRIBE THE DIFFERENCE, BUT I CAN TELL THE TWO ACCENTS APART. I GUESS A LINGUIST COULD BREAK IT DOWN FOR US.
I've fractured my right femur and had to have surgery to repair it. My wife's dying to watch me go through the airport security metal detectors to see if they find all of the metal screwed to my bones. The point is a broken femur is nothing to sneeze at. That happened about a year ago and was only a week after I was clinically dead twice on the same day. The combination of those two events altered every aspect of my life. My wife has been required to pick up the slack I've created on our horse farm. Not to mention she still works as a mental health counselor at a suicide prevention hotline. Her work there was prompted by the issues I've had after serving for 15 years. She's doing that work to try prevent my sisters and brothers from losing their battle and joining the 22 a day. She is a hero to me.
Believe it or not, the detectors probably won't even beep. Have a metal plate and five screws in my leg, get through with no issues when I go to the airport.
What an amazing person, I'm not a martial artist but recognise an absolute legend. This guy has so much self belief, sense of humour and mentality is NEVER beat.
8 minutes in and im getting emotional. I am a father of four boys, and if they hold me in half the regard that Renzo does Robson, I'll feel like I succeeded as a father. Respect.
Gotta give this man his props! Fucking laid it all on the line! Inspiring story of a great Brazilian fighter! Thank you for this movie and my respect just went through the roof for Renzo!
Both BJ and Dave ;WTF where is the LOVE for your Benefactor and Master? I couldn’t think of a more fucking disrespectful, honorless, bitch move than learn for years on end becoming essentially a son to your master then going DERP , fuckit “let’s try to beat him up now”;also; BJ is a rich boi so “let’s get my dad to promote a fight so I can try beat him up on pay per spew”!
I had the honor of meeting this legend on a seminary in my hometown here in Brazil a few years ago. Great guy, impossible not to smile around him, 100% a day that I will remember for the rest of my life. Oss!
Got to do a seminar with Renzo at his gym in Kaysville, Utah a couple weeks ago. Dudes the genuine article. During the seminar he shared a poem his grandfather used to tell him: OUR CHILDREN” And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children. And he said: Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness; For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable. Kahlil Gibran 1883 - 1931
AMAZING! I had the honor to meet and spend about 4 hours w/ RENZO and this is EXACTLY what he's like! VERY friendly and sooo funny! This was the best MMA documentary I've seen so far! THANKS RENZO!

Sounds like you got teabagged by your hero. How much did it cost you for your 1 minute of fame. $100? Plus training fees, GUI , and lots of lovely Gracie pyramid t-shirts.
grappler41, a fighters fighter, really? Watch the wanker fight Frank Shamrock, then tell me he's a fighters fighter. Renzo is same as all the other Gracie girls, cheating is a big part of their legacy, oh yeah, real role models.
I actually watched the entire thing .. Renzo is undoubtedly and inspiration, his philosophies and outlooks are what champions are made of Thanks to the uploaded for this masterpiece!!
lest time time i watched renzo was against frank shamrock when frank easily handeled him, knocked him partially out and renzo quitting. awesome legacy gonzo!
Renzo is just an incredibly genuine guy. Amazing personality, humble, generous, and a good dude. No wonder people around him are so loyal and great to him.
Thank you renzo this gives us people who not in usa a chance to see real gracie teachings please upload more I'm very sad to see Ryan is not with us anymore but his spirit is always here
Renzo was such a Warrior and had so much knowledge and charisma enjoyed all his fights too, thank you this documentary was very well made on a true martial arts icon
if you stop jerking off!!!! hahaahahaha he was so disgusted that he wouldnt listen to something as simple and effective as pulling guard. rolling instead lol.
I wish when I got into the sport, that I had learned how to grapple more. It is exciting and you do learn more working your way through the different holds. Great strategies!!!.
I met Renzo at the IFL Championships in a town just west of Chicago. Super nice guy, even though I blew his cover (he was ducking behind a wall watching his fighter).
renzo is one of the goats. Always liked his and his brothers style of bjj best out of the Gracie's. outside of rickson of course. but great documentary about a true legend in both bjj and mma

Definitely my favorite JJ documentary, even above Choke.
Agreed
+Everett Clunie it is a such great documentary!
This one and choke are both amazing
Better than Rickson's CHOKE? No way! This is the second best. It's great but this is Renzo's CHOKE.

You mean when they jump people on the street. That is a great legacy.
I would prefer Sakuraba’s legacy over 4 Gracies’
