Guest bio: John Danaher is one of the greatest coaches and minds in martial arts history.
John Danaher is one of the politest, soft spoken and mature combat athlete
Loving these Danaher clips.
I could listen to John talk about martial arts indefinitely
I trained at Renzo’s in the 90s when Kukuk was just about to leave and when the Serra brothers (Matt and Nick) were purple belts and Vinny and Mito were instructors.
Wow, going waaaay back! I started when Craig Kukuk was teaching in Red Bank, NJ. I found out about it through an ad in Black Belt magazine. At that time, the only ones teaching it were Steve Maxwell in Philly, and Dave Lentz in NJ. Great times, great memories.
@@bjjbrawler1 Was that before or after he was teaching at the 112 west 27th street location in NYC with Renzo (I forget what floor, but remember well the damn rickety elevator that i thought i'd definitely die in)?
@@ericd9827 Hey Eric! I started training there in late 1994/ maybe 1995. Craig was rolling there on the first day I showed up. I believe this was before Renzo's school.
@@bjjbrawler1 Cool, I think it was 96 or 97 when I was there. I travelled from RI, so I only went on Saturdays, which was a no-gi day.
@@bjjbrawler1 I just checked and I started in 96. I only know that because shortly after I started, Renzo began preparing for his fight with Oleg Taktarov, and I got to roll with him when he was preparing for it.
I was training at renzos in nyc in 2004 when Danaher was in there training and he had hair still
Pics show the pics!!
I use to think closed guard was the same as mount too.
"Show me proof" If only we could embrace this it today's day and age. Oh what a different world we would live in!
Renzo was great when i was there, he used say hej big guy, i am 6'3" ... kukak was still there, he had no patience like renzo had... matt serra was only blue belt while i trained there with my friend, i knew that matt would go places because he lived there and had the talent...too bad i had injury and never could come back
Guard is different from mount?
ist John from Australia?
New Zealand
My daddy was a jiu jitsu fighter and taught the Gracie’s in Brazil. His name was Gracie Jones and that’s why they started calling themselves Gracie Jui Jitsu
Yeah ok 😂
Your father was Adesanya?
@@DizzyMakavelli no Gracie Jones, he would be 103 today but sadly passed in 2006
I have news for you mate… sorry to break it down for you, but your father was lying…
@@Leopar525 hey no problem, I know the truth. My daddy also was the first drummer of Elvis before he quit the band
👏👏👏👏🥋
Matt Hughes destroyed Gracie. Gracie killer.
Wow you know alot you must be a hardcore
@@HimothyBronson
Yes
Tapout! Fuck yeaaaa, I train ufc too man
Matt beat him like he was a beginner! Huge difference with gi and no gi!😉
Renzo is one of the best from old school BJJ.
As a boxing trainer that's done limited ju jitsu it shouldn't be hard if the students are PAYING ATTENTION to explain the difference between guard and mount!
Make Jiu-Jitsu 🥋 Great Again 🇺🇸
Having met Renzo, I can confirm
Impossible not to smile around him.
I guess he knew that before going there. And there are beginners in Brazil too. Nice interview anyway.
I wish I found Renzo Gracie when I was younger. I was talented and did Jiujitsu every day but unfortunately they were hiding information. Had a good’s show me just as good as runs out, but not the heart.
What?
@@HimothyBronson 🤣🤣 that last sentence????🤣
Who wins? henzo or gordon?
Is that a serious question? 😂
Gi Renzo no Gi Gordon!
Gordon
With Gi Renzo could make Gordon tap a thousand ways
@@pedrodutra4088 Renzo is only 170 pounds. I dont think a gi would be enough to overcome Gordan Ryan and the weight difference. Im talking Renzo in his prime obviously.
