At 00:34 when I said "You're going to make some money" what I meant was "You're going to SAVE some money".... I haven't figured out how to make you money straight off my vids yet. Someday ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How'd you comment this 9 hours ago lmao
@@Jtg07 im guessing it takes time for the videos to go live in subscription boxes, he could still comment/update before it appears to us

Skip the tissue and point the lights towards your walls as a reflector. Much better diffusion, more control over brightness by playing with different angles, and $1.50 cheaper.
True dat. I’ve been bouncing my photography lights off the drop ceiling with a white diffuser hanging in front of my face. It sounds weird but it works.
@@GameTrekkie definitely a daily photographer move. On camera flash rarely looks good pointed at the subject. Almost always swivel my flash head to a wall or ceiling. Even if there’s nothing to bounce off of I’ll point my flash straight up and bounce it off a flash card on the flash.
😭 every cent really matters when you only ever made around $11k a year
I will try that ! Thanks a lot. Would it work in a really small room ? My streaming setup is in a 11x5.5 room and I am trying to figure out how to do my lighting. Was thinking about putting a LED strip with a cold white above my desk
@@steveo6725 check out a video Sam did on lighting setups with just one light and a diffuser.
You can just set manual white balance on your phone :P
Plus manual focus... :P
Yup, the white balance would have been a good move, a great way to get rid of orange face... Also a reminder that putting tissue over lights can be a fire hazard. Not recommended to leave them like that for any length of time just in case.
@@OldManBadly It should be alright if you get some led bulbs, they still get warm but not nearly hot enough to start a fire (at least from my experience)
Hey, Harris! This completely random guy knows how fix your problem! XD
@@DiscoCokkroach Remarkably, while Harris is very experienced, even the best people in the field are constantly learning new things. An open mind is a big part of it.
As a guy in his 40s who suddenly decide to start YouTubing and streaming, I gotta say your channel and your input is invaluable. Really enjoy hearing your professionalism and candor on subjects. Keep it up.
I definitely second this motion!!! I started streaming last year at 47 and Harris' content has helped me immensely. I also love the truth and honesty without fear of making someone else mad with his opinions! I love it!!!
I guess I'm finding my group in the comments lol. I'm about to get into streaming....I think. I gotta admit this is all pretty intimidating being in my 40's
same here! just started this week, ill sub you!
I turn 45 Monday and here I am learning to do the same thing.
I love seeing everyone in this comment section trying this hobby out being in their 40's! I turned 34 this year, I grew up playing games my entire life, it's been my escape from the world. This year I decided to try this out for the first time, and I respect the courage it takes to let the world see you live.

This video is so informative for small creators. I myself used Home Depot clamp lights and RGB bulbs for almost a year. I also have 2 of those flood lights that I recently purchased. It’s like you literally previewed my setup in this video!
You are so right. Gear doesn’t matter. Communities aren’t made over the gear you have. Focus on growing yourself and setting goals that you have control over.
Also, Streambeats Rock is simply fantastic.
"No one will come into your chat and complain about this setup."
Me: This is that one weird specific pitch that kills my ears for some reason.
My experience is that people in general won't complain about technical issues even when things are completely shit, so that particular quote is a moot point. People who care about technical quality won't stick around long enough to tell you it's bad.
"people won't come into your chat" he could've stopped there and it'd ring true for me 🤣
Damn there are some amazing tips in here - and proof that you don't need a big budget to stream!
I truly love your honesty and how you stick with what you say regardless of how it may or may not upset others. Honesty isn't always nice . You have motivated me more in the last 3 days of watching your content than I have ever been . Thank you for all your hard work and research. I look forward to watch new content.
Thank you for this Alpha! I remember when I was starting out on how to stream you were one of the Channels I go to, to learn. I've learned a lot and I already have a small community on my facebook streams.
This came at THE PERFECT time for me. Thank you Harris and Sam!
Anyone can go big and go home. Doing this segment of best quality for cheapest is BY FAR my most favorite of your videos. Honest, humble and informative. You have jumped up in the rankings of favorites.
Dude, You're awesome. Love it, keep it coming! We're also moving into a newly built house, but not until Jan-Feb.
Thank you for all the information. Just started streaming and your advice has been priceless.
I was always bothered by how prohibitively expensive streaming can be; it always felt very unfair; so I gotta say I REALLY APPRECIATE what you are doing there.
Thank u so much alpha i needed a video like this 💙
Harris thanks for all your great content. Your videos and streams have helped me get my UA-cam channel off of the ground. StreamBeats is a great gift to the world of creative content. So big thanks to you, your wife, Sam, and Ryan for your hard work and dedication to us the creators. Keep it up!
Just wanted to say thankyou Harris For this video. It has inspired me to start streaming as I was always put off by the overall budget and now I'm about to start my journey!
It's 2am and I'm about to hit the sack...New notification. Oh look another new Alpha Gaming video dropped....back down the rabbit hole I go.
I imagine you have a pretty decent collection of boom arms/tripods for ways to make your camera more adjustable. I would love to see a video on that. Everything from cheap two point arms to fancy mechanized sliders for b-roll.
This was in my recommended....haven't seen previous videos and still felt like this was a good told you so bro moment...nice and well done
Bro, one year later, your videos have enabled me to setup a cheap setup as well as trick other noobs think I know OBS!
Thank you very much for your efforts! Cheers!
The thing Ive always wondered though. Lights give off heat, Tissue is very light, Wouldn't it be a slight fire hazard to leave them on for a long stream? I know Its a common trick
You could use the Philips Wiz bulbs that allow you to use an app to work on the color/temp/brightness
I don't stream, but can't get enough of your videos. Love learning about everything! Thank you and great video.
I love these videos, I am so glad that I found your channel a few days ago! 🙏
I'm starting to stream again soon. I don't have much of a limited budget, but still seems like an interesting video that I can take ideas from.
This is def a good place to start and there are a bunch of other videos that you can follow as well to help set up your stream system to help you optimize it and not overspend on items you don't need for example his videos on other mics and pc builds etc.
I know the video is a month old but I'd definitely recommend getting a ring light with an included phone mount, nowadays you can get them for as little as £20-£25 on a site like Amazon for instance, gives you a lot more adjustability, different tones of warmth or coolness to a camera as well as being able to dim them at the click of a button.
For the streamdeck portion of the video id say if you have an old tablet lying around then instead touchportal on that and connect it that way or failing that you can buy a cheap £50 tablet and it should be fine.
The Siren mini is an insanely good mic for the price and it really cannot be faulted so as per Harris' suggestion on the audio front I can't find anything better (apart from a Ffine microphone which may be a tad cheaper depending on where you shop around)
Hope my random comment gives you some more advice
He's just engraving owned into our minds
One of the best vids ive seen from Alpha. Thank you for that..
The other question would, what if you really love gaming, talking, social media, but HATE editing! Talk about a rock and a hard place
Bro... Love you for doing this. For so long I'm looking for this, especially from you. If you ever get here in my country, I'll personally come & thank you.
Having had a lot of reptiles growing up, the tissue on that particular light has me nervous 😬
Right?
Yess it made me nervous, had those and they would get hot!! Maybe use led lightbulbs?
those lights are usually UVB or UVA which are much hotter then LEDs, basically in LEDs 100% energy goes to light, bulbs have 5% light and 95% heat
@@Rizztech1 LED bulbs can get really hot too depending on the model. Not as hot as incandescent bulbs, but some can get close enough for that paper-wrapped lamp to still be a fire hazard. The converter for the current in the bulb is not 100% efficient at all. The LEDs themselves are very efficient, but that's only one part of the circuit in that bulb.
That moment when you personally know the street that Harris is driving on... 😳
I was casually watching and had to do a double take - been at both those stores plenty of times.
the free streamdeck accually made me smile so hard for some reason.
i used one of your tutorials for custom stinger transitions and i love it.
Just an absolute blast watching your vids. So informative and the quality is just so damn good,
When the title said "worlds cheapest streaming setup" i thought it was a pc build
a setup is mopre than just the pc
Yeah
@@MarcLJ15 True, but it still NEEDS one.
@@IamNinetyFour of course it still needs one
he does have a cheap stream pc build video that could help you with that and if you use both videos you should be fine.
Excited to watch and not stream. Im just here because Harris is awesome!
This is honestly, one of the most useful vids I've watched on You Tube for a beginner like me. I'm launching my music/DJ channel and living in Cape Town, everything is pricy. Thanks so much, really appreciated!!!
Fantastic video! I have a larger setup but this is an ideal recommendation for those that ask me how to do this on a budget. Well done sir
i'mma be honest, i was using streamlabs deck until they broke it about a month ago and i didnt even think about using the numpad for switching scenes. TIL.
For simple scene changes numpads are awesome and free if you have a full size keyboard haha
@@Jacqie Or your mouse if it has extra buttons, I've got a Redragon M686RGB that I can fully program just like a numpad.

A phone and a mic that’s pretty much it
@@BrandonThaChosen I’ve been creating vlogs with an iPhone 12 Pro for a while now and they come out great. just can’t afford to take it to the next level right now 😶
@@KevinGannets any smartphone (especially iPhones) look so good.. Plus you don't have to set up manually everything.. I own a mirror less camera, gimbal camera and a phone.. 90% of the time I record a video, I use my phone... However I would recommend buying an external mic no matter what camera you use
@@RrrrrrrXXX I agree, I've made so many videos and a lot of comments I get is "which camera are you using" and when I tell them iPhone 11 Pro/12 Pro they can't believe it... definitely need to invest into a proper mic. My biggest issue is that I when I use the front facing camera the quality is not as good and when I use the rear camera I can't tell what I'm recording lmao
@@KevinGannets If you don't already have it, what is really useful is also a phone gimbal!
Just wanted to say I only discovered your channel a week ago as I'm looking to start streaming at the moment and I have to say you have the best channel dedicated to this topic (specifically the hardware involved) i have come across.
I take it back I've just seen your new house "you bastard" lol
Top tips man, love this channel! Actual tips that are useful for streamers and are original too! 👌
This looks like a great way to set tissue paper on fire. Be careful, folks.
Agreed!
A friend tried this kind of setup a few years back to take some home portraits.
The tissue paper caught fire and, luckily, he was in the room when it lit and was able to keep it from spreading.
This was my first thought as well
Looking back, I should have pointed out more obviously that the lights are LEDs. They won't ever catch the paper on fire.
@@Senpai Do you think the C920 looks good enough out of the box or would you adjust some settings to make it look more natural?
LEDs don't generate anywhere near the heat you would normally get from traditional bulbs
Tissue paper...it's for more than hiding gifts in a gift bag.
I laugh because I thought I was all swanky as a start-up stream. Turns out this is almost exactly my current setup! Same mic arm, same flood lights, I spent the same amount on a diffused ring light instead of the hardware lights, and I splurged on the Elgato Wave mic you always recommend. Oh and I was lucky enough to get the Logitech webcam before they were expensive (I had it for my 9-5).
Thanks for all the tips and tricks to make my stream look professional on a budget Harris!
Harris, thanks for the great suggestions. I appreciate your practical, actionable advice to create better content. Also, I'm really enjoying Streambeats!
Maybe it's just because I buy my phones out right. But people seem to forget these phones are like over a thousand dollars lol
His point is that most people already have a phone anyway
@@JackLinton i mean, not really? maybe we do because we're fortunate enough to. but most people aren't having the top-of-the-line stuff honestly.
@@Moliminous tbh you don't really need a camera to start streaming and tbh if you have pc powerful enough to stream then you probably have a phone
@@Moliminous you don't need a top of the line phone and most phones ppl buy on a contract for like $50...... if you don't own a phone just say so caus eeven toddlers got cell phones now....

That's fantastic!!! Way to go!
I made my lights out of amazon boxes too. Looks nice and no regrets if I break them.
Hey, I started pointing my phone at my TV to record my gameplay videos! You're starting out better than me!
As long as you and your viewers are having fun, that's what matters!!!
Stream name? I’d like to watch lol
I learned two incredibly useful things in this video, and didn't expect them. One was cropping video in OBS, and the other was setting up the number pad for hotkeys. Since I don't have a number pad on either of my keyboards this is especially useful in that I won't accidentally hit one of them. I setup macros for my SLOBS profile so it's even better! Thank you for this. It's awesome to get inexpensive alternatives to things like streaming/recording. Everyone thinks you need all this top-shelf gear, because all the streamers pimp it out, but it's not the case. This was a very well put together video, thank you!
Appreciate the content Harris. Would love to see you do this with a console setup instead of pc. Thanks for the knowledge man.
Harris is like beyond smart, but he doesn’t get enough credit.
the only issue with this is EPOC is still just locked to iPhone and most people now have androids :|
droid cam is free and can make your phone into a webcam on your computer via wifi connection or usb connection
Droidcam there's a free and paid version
Droid cam isn’t free really... well unless you don’t care if u have adds on ur output
@@DeathDeclined i have never had ads on my output.
This is great, I spent a decent amount of money on my setup but if I could do it over I would follow this advise. Everyone getting into content creation should watch this.

How's your tiktok, insta, or twitter going?
Great video man I really enjoyed listen to everything you had to say!
Awesome!!! Thanks Harris!
thanks man, really appreciate the honesty
Another light setup that works well and looks more elegant is puck lighting (with diffused lense). usually come in a 2-5 pack, can mount to wall, pc desk or even double side tapped to monitor or a boom arm. iirc my 3 pack was $25 from homedepot.
works well if you rent and cant put anything on the walls.
Excellent Video! Thank You!!
Thank you, this was very informative!
Great video, you should add a low cut around 50 hz before going in to the compressor. That way the p-sounds wont make the compressor work so hard, creating a unwanted drop in volume
I cant overcome this but,
The intro scene looks sooo goood!
❤️❤️❤️
I actually got my c920 on sale for 60 dollars this past holiday season and use those same lights big difference
but didnt know about using the number pad cause I dont have a stream deck that blew me away great video
Tissue paper is a great idea. I use a shower curtain liner, frosted. I have learned this, the softer the fabric, the softer the light. That drool cover pillow case will work wonders. Give it a try.
growing up in that same area, eating at that same ramen spot. BLOWS my mind. love your videos sir.
The set up videos are all fine n dandy, but the real question is you personal camera boarder while in game! I want it! Honestly, the shape is unique, the small blurrs on the side are awesome and it frames a lot of information in a small space! Teach me! This is the way!
Good luck on the move and don't lose anything man!
I enjoyed how he finished with honest solid advice, I respect honesty more than gimmicks.
Another pointer for a background, and this is something I use. Is a bed sheet, or something along those lines. A darker one is preferable, as for when you have LED lights (such as the flood lights harris mentioned) it can turn your background into something beautiful. Just get a bed sheet (again or something similar) and use either safety pins or command strips and hang the sheet from your ceiling behind you. It might seem like a waste of a bedsheet, but if you have one to spare, boom there you go.
Great way to start streaming! It’s always a good idea to start small, gain an audience and then begin to invest in more expensive equipment
this is awesome! thank you dude for such content it makes me quite happy that there is content like this, i'm currently learning how to edit some of my clips etc. start streaming as a hobby in the future ;P Thank you sir ! :)
It is not about the money you spend but about the communityand relationships you can build! I might grab my self those back ground lights. I mean I already sunk more money than I realized into my set up but those lights would work perfect for me.
Thanks again, for the work.
Great video and sweet Akatsuki mask!
I'm an entrepreneur working multiple businesses and have been watching your videos for years now. Glad to continue supporting your channel. Ever want to have a talk, I'd be happy to set some time aside and pick each other's brains.
First time commenting, but have gone down the rabbit hole watching your videos lol
First thank you, you've made OBS so easy, it looked like Chinese till I found your channel. Your tips are the best. Definitely appreciate all that I've learned. I don't even steam gaming lol, I do Funko's and mysterboxes but thanks to you my channel is starting to stand out. Still working out how I want my set up but just wanted to say thank you. I've been streaming for a year but I feel like I just Really Started now
great video harris you’ve helped me in more ways with my streaming career than you know
You could also set up a secondary macro keyboard for some real in depth scene switching if you have a spare one laying around. And it can double for editing.
built my setup cheap and in pieces. PC came with a webcam, got an old elgato (just the hd, not the hd60) for $20 on kijiji. fifine mic (usb and very inexpensive), boom mic stand for $18 on amazon. lighting I just have two lamps with led lights pointed towards the wall away from me so they reflect back softly towards me. Might use that idea of the dome lights and diffusers though once I have some spare cash again. picked up a second monitor for $20 as well (main pc screen is also my tv and I usualy play on PS4 so that was needed)
Tried to to a green screen, but given the layout of my living room it wasn't too feasable - and the cats decided it was a good thing to lie down on, causing it to tear from the bar holding it up.
I just discovered your content and it's amazing! Thanks for everything you share! My only question is how do you send the video from your iPhone to your computer to use it a camera?
The dome lights were a super easy and cheap add. We already had spare bulbs and extra tissue paper from the xmas. Thanks for the idea!
Great tips 😊 I just started learning to stream and record music as well.
Another thing that can help, is moving the lights as close to you as possible. That makes the light source larger in relation to the subject and brighter. It looked like the camera was struggling with the low light. You can clip those lights directly to your monitor without much of an issue.
love the video!
i use the lamp behind me that has a phillips hue bulb, set it to red and the same dome light with another hue to a dimmed yellow light to illuminate my face. I dont use the sheet cuz its used to light my appt too.
Most helpful vdeo you've ever made. Great job!
Very good Video but I have something to add in as a Streamdeck alternativ. If you have a little but of experience with programming javascript, it should easily be posible for you grabing an used novation launchpad of ebay for like 30 bucks and programm the keys into whatever you want (and can programm). I use that for streaming and it works really really well
Good ideas for a cheap streaming/recording setup. I would lean towards wifi bulbs (got mine at Ikea). Instead of the full-color spectrum ones, I got the 4 tone ones (cheaper). That way, the intensity and tones can be adjusted instead of relying entirely on the tissue paper diffuser
This has to be one of my favorite Alpha Gaming videos. GGs
Really nice content! Thank you =)
I am aghast. I understood every word and even did a couple, "I knew it"s. Your home build is coming along beautifully.
I love this style of vlogging videos
For anyone who has access to a Kmart (Aus and New Zealand). Depending on stock you can find a $40 AUD mic + arm + Pop filter combo and from experience the sound is far from terrible, it's a great option for the budget!
