Exactly, difficult to find an actual Shepherd's pie in Texas, all say Shepherd's pie when in actuality is Cottage pie. Gordan Ramsay's take on actual Shepherd's pie is awesome. Have made several times. Kent's version is really good as well. Grating the veg is a key.
I'm the cook for our local Mason's Lodge. Prior to covid, we did monthly Swiss Steak dinners. The left over swiss steak and gravy made fantastic Shepard's pie. Just added corn and green beans and the sealer, mashed potatoes. Daubed some butter on top to crisp up the top.

Thank you Sir. Today I've doing your recipe, but with a few changes. I've used more veggies and left out the cream. - Mince: olive oil for frying, minced meat (beef + lamb), onions (red, yellow, grated), celery (grated), carrots (grated), zucchini (grated), garlic cloves (pressed), tomato paste, corn, Sambal Oelek, red wine, beer, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, selfmade vegetable broth powder, dried Parsely. - Potatoes: mashed potatoes (dried powder), water, milk, egg yolk, grated parmesan, salt, pepper, garlic powder. - Topping: Grated Parmesan for sprinkling It was soooo delicious. Thank you and a big virtual hug. Greetings from Germany, Frank

I got a happy dance you are going to love, I'll break it down for you cowboy style!! 🤠👍
In North America we call what is actually cottage pie “Shepard’s Pie”. Most North Americans don’t even realize Shepard’s Pie is supposed to be made with lamb, and cottage pie is ground beef. I think he called it Shepard’s Pie / Cottage Pie at the start though 👌👌 Edit: to clarify further, the main difference between cottage pie and Shepard’s Pie, other than the meat use, is the consistency. Shepard’s Pie usually holds together fairly well, vs., cottage pie has a bit more of a “gravy”. So essentially this recipe is a good mix between the two. He used the ingredients you’d make for a cottage pie, with the consistency of the Shepard’s Pie. Although I wouldn’t call this a true Shepard’s Pie OR cottage pie without peas 😂😂 classic America
Kent, Shannon & B. Greetings from New Mexico, that shepherds pie would taste great with some green chili from New Mexico, just sayin, also made with Elk, Moose, Deer or Lamb meat, thanks for sharing your recipes with your UA-cam Family, Y'all are awesome, have a wonderful day and God bless you and your Family always. 🇺🇸☕️🍽🔥🇺🇸👼🏻👼🏻 P.s. Congratulations on 400,000 subscribers.
The earliest recipes of shepards/cottage pie was meat and veg, usually carrots and other root veg. So your recipe is pretty spot on to the original . Years ago, people that lived in the villages, usually in small cottages, used to use potatoes when they were running low on flour during the winter. The flour was saved for bread making. Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it.

Thanks for watching Robert and God bless you
I am a Shepherd from Ireland and I prefer my shepherd's pie with beef
@@daffyduck9901 ….😆Nice. My Bride prefers hamburger/beef mince herself. I tend to make a 50/50 mix on my mince/grind
About time UA-cam recommended me some good content .good looking food 👍
Thank you Sir. Today I've doing your recipe, but with a few changes. I've used more veggies and left out the cream.
- Mince: olive oil for frying, minced meat (beef + lamb), onions (red, yellow, grated), celery (grated), carrots (grated), zucchini (grated), garlic cloves (pressed), tomato paste, corn, Sambal Oelek, red wine, beer, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, selfmade vegetable broth powder, dried Parsely.
- Potatoes: mashed potatoes (dried powder), water, milk, egg yolk, grated parmesan, salt, pepper, garlic powder.
- Topping: Grated Parmesan for sprinkling
It was soooo delicious. Thank you and a big virtual hug. Greetings from Germany, Frank

My wife has been wanting me to get her a Dutch oven for years! Our anniversary is coming up and I think I'll surprise her with, it looks like we'll need two of them! For the guacamole taco salad!! 😋
She loves the Shepherds pie!!
Thank you for recognizing our men and women who keep that flag flying over camp, they deserve all the recognition we can give!!
I got a happy dance you are going to love, I'll break it down for you cowboy style!! 🤠👍
Tomato paste and wine ! Another good tip ! Thank you Kent. But I'm sticking with peas.
I use Guinness
Sounds amazing. I’ve always heard Shepard’s Pie is lamb, and homesteader’s pie is ground beef.
In North America we call what is actually cottage pie “Shepard’s Pie”. Most North Americans don’t even realize Shepard’s Pie is supposed to be made with lamb, and cottage pie is ground beef. I think he called it Shepard’s Pie / Cottage Pie at the start though 👌👌
Edit: to clarify further, the main difference between cottage pie and Shepard’s Pie, other than the meat use, is the consistency.
Potato/Potahto
I always take your recipes and make them Vegetarian and they always turn out great. You're a joy to watch my friend.
I've never made Shepherd's pie, but after seeing Kent's video it's definitely on my to do list for sure.
Its easy and its comfort food
Your cottage pie looks great, but c'mon Kent... give peas a chance.
Picture whirled peas.
@@krb5292 "Mushy Peas" is a British staple! But, yeah, I see what you mean.
Peas are not bad, but it is a matter of preference.
Ahh Peas Biatch
You just reminded me that someone has defaced that graffiti and now I'm mad.
Kent personality is true the #1 person on UA-cam I watch. 🤠
Thanks for watching
Kent, Shannon & B. scott anthony that sounds like a great idea!!!
i haven't eaten in like 12 hours, somehow i just smelled that, and it smelled GUUUUD!
No idea why anyone would give this a thumbs down. Smh. Perfect channel!!!
No peas, plus parm & celery, & maters don't beling in shepards pie! ;)

"One pound of ground meef"
Kent, please come cook for me sometime
Was typing the same thing, lol
This is one of my favorite videos. I've watched it several times. The location is what makes it special for me. Beautiful country it is. Anytime a fella drives his pickup truck to cook a meal you know it's gonna be good. Especially if you stop at Sonic on the way for a drink for your cup holder. I do love a good shepherds pie and it must be made in cast iron.
In the U.K. we call it “ WUS TER SAUCE” Have a great day ,please stay safe 👍😜🇬🇧
You as well and Thanks so much for watching
Love this guy, shepherds pie is Lamb but much love. UK
I'm a big fan of shepherd's pie because it's so filling and the homemade version is the best but yours looks delightful.
Brother, I'm positive you'd give Granny a run for her money when it comes to cooking! #nopeasforme
