Hi Kent, Shannon, Beag Me again, Dave. I've been quietly just watching for awhile, but now you've hit something near-n-dear to my heart! In the early 1900's the Irish Coal Miners here in North East Pa. Called them "Pocket Pies" because they could carry them in their pockets while they worked the mines. If they got hungry, they just pulled one out and took a bite. I've heard them called Mountain Meat pies, Pasties (here in NE Pa. by the Ukrainians and Poles) also Hand pies. Any way you cut it, that's some GOOD EATS, to steal a line from TV food network's Alton Brown. I make full sized meat pies about once a month in the Winter. It's a great Cold day food! I see Ole' Glory is still flyin' even indoors! :~)))) God bless: Dave
@@primrozie Hi I've always called them Pasties. I make mine with ground Beef, Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, and Peas. I believe the English version has Lamb along with the veggies? I like mine with some good gravy over them. Been a Pie Crust freak all my life.:~))))) That's how I make my meat pies too with a top AND bottom crust!. The more crust to soak up the gravy, the better. God bless: Stoney
In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Cornish miners were the pioneer copper miners during the 1845 copper rush. With it, they brought the pasty as it's ingredients and shape were practical for the climate and bringing lunch down deep mineshafts under their hardhat. The"Copper Country" of Michigan has incubated/adopted it as a favorite ever since.
Wow! I grew up with pasty’s. Never seen them fried before. The miners wives would bake them from the supper table leftovers. They were wrapped in wax paper and shoved in their pockets. Where ever the miner was in the mine, when lunch time come, just sit down and enjoy. I don’t mine so I make mine and pour gravy on it when I eat. Very versatile food. Well done.

Hung Grapes 68 & sunny, 72 & cloudy, that is my ideal sweet spot, butter zone of perfect! Anything above the middle 80’s and I’m a sniveling little cry baby! I’ve lived with summer heat in the upper 90’s before but I just can’t take it anymore, I’m a complete heat wimp.
In our culture we call that pastry “empanada”! But regardless of what you call it, it sure looks delicious!!! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!!! ☮️🖖🏽
My grandparents (a combo or Irish and English immigrants) worked in the mining industry in Montana and this was made and put into the metal lunch boxes for lunch. It is a hotly contested debate on what the appropriate topping is for them: ketchup or gravy
Once again you have created a complete recipe anyone can create in their kitchen! Can't tell you how many recipes I come across that either don't give specific seasoning measurements or simply say " One tablespoon of your favorite seasoning". These to me are incomplete recipes only being produced by those who really don't want to know how to cook such as you do. Hat's off to you once again!!!
True! Meat pies were made just about everywhere. People just have different names. He made more of an empanada crust though. But if you haven't had an Australian meat pie, you should definitely try to find a place that has them. They're so good
Empanadas/meat pies from the chilean and argentinian border region are the best in teh world. they cook the meat up with cinamon stick and a bit of chirizo and raisins oh and some boiled egg is added in at the end too. Man, I miss those. In the caribbean, the meat is quite spicy. I find the Jamaican Patty (made with a corn meal crust, alot of lard too, and a variation of the Cornish meat pies from the UK). I find the Jamaican patty to be one of the better regional meat pies in the caribbean. It's quite spicy and the beef, vegetable and chicken varieties are all equally delicious. The variations from Cuba are rather bland. Now, mainland Caribbean, they refer to them as "pastalitos" in Honduras. They're fried up in a very bubbly bready crust. I love them but like mine smothered in hot sauce. as always, I love your wholesome show. You and your family seem like wonderful people.
Cowboy Kent, if the Army used your recipes to feed the troops everyone would make it a career, but finding you here online makes me a lifer for your cooking show! Thanks a million, and God bless you!

Hot, hot, hot im from Michigan and it is 70 degree,s today, you might consider that cold !
I was raised in Northern IL. Yes it’s to hot even for us down here. Enjoy to 70’s
At least he has shade
In our culture we call that pastry “empanada”! But regardless of what you call it, it sure looks delicious!!! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!!! ☮️🖖🏽
In Russia they have the same thing too but it’s piroshky. It’s gotta be one of those foods that’s in every culture in some form or another.
Norway it's called a Klenät.
I love fried pie. Meat pie, veggie pie, fruit pie, love them all. Thanks for your recipe; will add it to my fried pie collection ❣️
Hope you enjoy
Cowboy Kent is the best! Love this channel. One of my absolute favorites. Great food, great people, great videos!
Thanks for watching
This made my day, horrible day at work, was questioning my sanity and then saw this new recipe, made me so happy!! Thanks Kent! :D
I'm binge watching Cowboy Kent again during quarantine because he makes me happy.
Love me some meat pies!! I like your simple set up worth the saw horses and fryer!
How could 31 people give this man and his wife a thumbs down?!
I agree. They need meat pies in their lives.
Vegans
Vegans should be forced to eat a nice, juicy, tender steak!
Thank you so much
I think every culture has some form of meat pie. Looks good!!
True! Meat pies were made just about everywhere. People just have different names. He made more of an empanada crust though. But if you haven't had an Australian meat pie, you should definitely try to find a place that has them. They're so good
Not my vegan culture
@@lamBETTERthanY0U Vegan is a relatively new culture, give it time.
They are called pastys in UK also. It was a very common food for miners
Say hey, hope everything is going great in the UK.

@@dogbugler thanks man. I'm from England but am currently living in Texas also, great state, also the gun laws are great 😉
I would love to stuff these with potatoes and chorizo sausage, as well as a slow roasted pork.
Oh my goodness, the ideas are aflowin'! 😂
Thanks Tom for watching
I always love your videos. Great cookin', great music, great scenery, and fun times with Kent and Shannon. Many Thanks!
