The Concept Of Playing Guitar THAT MOST OF US MISS!!!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 чер 2024
- In todays video lesson I will teach you a concept of playing guitar that most guitar players neglect! It's the HOME BASE CONCEPT! You can easily locate scales, triads and arpeggios just by knowing where the root note is anywhere on the fretboard. That means that you can play rhythm and lead guitar all over the fretboard with this knowledge. This concept will help you better visualize the fretboard. This is an intermediate guitar lesson that will help you better memorize the fretboard. Also this video lesson will give you confidence when improvising lead guitar solos. Your guitar playing will improve by visualizing the fretboard this way. Many blues rock guitar players visualize the fretboard this way! You will have more fun playing guitar by learning the fretboard in this simple way. Don't neglect this concept of playing guitar!!!

The route to guitar success is to know the root! Great advice, Rusty. I learned this early on in my guitar journey and it helped in navigation of the fretboard greatly. Have a blessed week, Rusty.👍
Well, said Ray! It’s a simple concept, but so many players over look it! I can’t thank you enough for all your support to my channel! I really appreciate you my guitar 🎸buddy😎
I think knowing the root is easy. I mean just use Ultimate Guitar. Where I struggle is trying to either just use the minor pentatonic, or blues scale, and when you really need another scale to properly follow the melody. I'm so dumb I can't even work this out for say, Evangeline, by Emnylou Harris 🙄😞. Ultimate Guitar tabs are careless with the actual key, major, minor etc so it's no use beyond setting the root (rut!! 🤣). Love ya Rusty 😁
Good Concept ! Best Concept !. Thanks/Gracias. Have A Nice Week.
You’re welcome! You have a great week also 👌
I never knew it was a "barre" chord - thanks for alerting me to this! This guitar is my favorite of yours, Rusty - it looks & sounds amazing!
Hey Karen, it’s always good to hear from you! I love that guitar! It’s like an old friend. Talk to you later Karen ❤️ Thank you 😎
Yes, so important and something I overlooked until it was pointed out cheers again.
Many players overlook this concept! It’s simple, but so important! Thanks Martyn! Catch you later👌
This concept is so important...........I cant speak for America but here in Ireland too many teachers focus on learning the student shapes as opposed learning all the notes ..........I'm working hard on this at the moment and it's paying off..........also since I started learni g this way I'm leaning at a geometric rate...........thanks Rusty Paul from Ireland
You’re right, Paul! We need to know the notes and the shapes! I think many players visualize the fretboard in different ways. But you are on the right track that’s for sure. We want to be able to look down at the fretboard with confidence. Sounds like you’re really moving forward Paul! Always good to hear from you. Talk to you soon.👍
Rusty, I love your "rut" notes😂😂. As an Aussie IT guy, back in the 90s we had to train the Cisco, 3Com etc guys NOT to say "network rooter" They had to say "router" as in "outer space", if they weren't to offend clients. "Rooting" has an entirely different connotation for older Aussies 😂😂
That is a good one, Paul! I never realized that! Many people make fun of how I say root note (rut). Greetings from Chicago my friend. Thanks for watching.👍
It is a chuckle. When the Rastas say it, like Bob, it's "rooooots/rutes rock reggae" etc.
Always good to know where root notes are.
Yes! Locating the root notes makes learning everything else much easier! Thanks a lot for watching Harold👌
Thanks again for another profoundly simple lesson on how to think like a guitar player
I’m always happy to help! Thank you for checking out the video.
Great job my uncle 💯 Thank you for sharing., Have a wonderful day
Thank you, John! And you’re very welcome. And you have a wonderful day also.👍
I’m guilty of overlooking the ‘RUT’ notes 😂 RUsTy. I use them on the 6th, 4th & 1st strings when playing position 1, but forget where the others are. Then when I change to a different position, I get lost. Maybe you can drum this into my head in future lessons 🙏🏻 Thanks for pointing this out buddy. Enjoy your week my friend 👍🏻🏴🎸
Hey Dave, knowing the homebase notes in a few other areas of the fretboard will really open things up. Everything that you know on the guitar already will expand, by locating root notes in other areas of the fretboard. Thanks for checking in Dave. I hope you have a great week also. Thanks 👌
I absolutely love the way you pronounce “root”, I’m a southerner.
Many people poke fun at the way I say it 😂 I’m glad you like it! But I have always been a northerner. Good to hear from you Cathy! Thanks ❤️
Hi Rusty, what a coincidence. Over the last few weeks I have learnt every 'A' on the fretboard and what a difference it has made. Don't think I will ever reach your standard but I must thank you for the improvement in my application. Just love your lessons. Mike P in the UK
Hey Mike, many players struggled to move forward. And most of them do not know this simple concept. Knowing the homebase concept can make any lesson come alive. Because you can visualize it. I appreciate you watching my lessons, Mike! Greetings from Chicago.👍
Your the best teacher I’ve found. I’m so thankful you put these up
I appreciate that Jeremy! Thanks and let’s talk soon👍
Thank you, Rusty !!!
Now I need a little more time.🎶🎸
You’re welcome Viktor! I’m happy to help 👌
Great video on an important topic! Years ago I struggled with connecting the dots with chords, scales, and arpeggios. I finally got so frustrated that I spent a month with a metronome forcing myself to learn the fretboard. This was my technique, which may not work for everyone. I started the metronome slow, and I had to find the next instance of the note before the next beat hit. I slowly sped it up. It adds some stress to the mix.The brain is lazy, so consistently causing your brain to expend energy on something other than survival is a sure fire way to get it stored into long term memory faster.
I did two 15 minute sessions a day with the metronome. Once in the morning, once in the evening. I continued my normal practice routine along with it, I just reduced the time of the other things I was studying to make room for fretboard knowledge. If someone said play a D on the G string, I could go to it instantly. If you hesitate for even a fraction of a second looking for it the music has already passed you by. A month to make the rest of your guitar playing years so much easier is worth it. Once you have the fretboard memorized, the world opens up and you advance much more quickly.
Well said! This is one of the best ways to practice. If you have good timing and know the fretboard all of the other guitar skills will make sense so much faster. Thanks for checking up the video.👍
Always inspiring!
Thanks so much, Mike! I appreciate you watching my videos👍
Great lesson here today in this one !! Many thanks Rusty . I cannot tell you how many times I’ve watched videos of SRV only to wonder “ how the Hell does he know where to go next “ in many of his songs & solos. Now it’s all starting to gell …. 😉
Thanks so much Stephen! Keep rockin my friend. Catch you later 😎
Very important concept the "rut" (hahahhaha) note Rusty. The other concept that change my playing was "intervals". Take care my friend!
Yes, using intervals takes this concept to the next level for sure! I always appreciate you watching my videos. Thanks Rafa 👌
Another great lesson Rusty, you make it come together in my mind. Thank you so much.
Nice! I’m glad to hear that! Always good to hear from you! Talk to you soon👍
Thanks Rusty! I have found counting the intervals (so root being 1 of course) has massively helped my playing. Trying to focus on the 1,3 and 5 of whatever chord I'm playing is what I try to do
That is taking this homebase concept to the next level! If you get good, at counting intervals, you will be headed to advanced level for sure! Thanks a lot for checking out the video!👍
Home base is the word ….the big names know … great you’re spreading the message … good tutorial… I myself I just play by instinct that is ears and muscle memory and a lot of heart … thanks Rusty 😊
I’m amazed how many beginner intermediate players struggle with this concept. Thanks for watching John! Have a great rest of your week.👍
@@rustysguitar1 thanks and have a great midweek too ! well Ive got a new vid out..with lots of guitar ... Chris Isaak style..I think you'll like it..
Thank you for yet another priceless lesson !!!!!❤
You’re welcome Robert! Thanks so much for checking in. Catch you later my Guitar buddy.😎
Rusty really like your learning techniques and playing... you honestly bring out the best points atomos to all of the online teachers!!!
Thanks so much! It’s good to hear that! I appreciate you watching my lessons! Talk to you soon👍
Since the root notes are the first step in mapping the fretboard, they should probably be called "route notes". 😆 🤣 😂
That’s a good one JG! I so many players overlook this, and wonder why they can’t play all over the fretboard. I appreciate the comment! Talk to you soon, bro.😎
Rusty U R The Man. So so Clear and makes so much sense for me 2 Learn 😎👌
Thanks so much, John! I appreciate it👍
More clarity, thanks Rusty.
Glad to hear it! And you’re welcome👍

Love the lesson, how do you get that great sound out of your strat?
Hey Glenn, I’m using the Revv G20 amp set clean and driving it with the Revv Tilt overdrive pedal. Also some reverb from the Strymon BigSky. I also use the same set up for live gigs. It’s a great little rig. Thanks a lot for checking in buddy.👍

You are so right Molly! I need to get it together!!! Thanks so much for the feedback! Talk to you soon👌
Hey Rusty - again a great video thank you! I kindly would like to ask if there is a possibility that you would support a small channel with a passion for guitar. I'm creating backing tracks and i'm only contacting you on this way cause i did not find any other email to contact you on the About page. I really hope that is okay. I do not want to do any ad without your permission.
I just asked myself if you could name my tracks (only if you like them for sure) to give me a little boost. I've done this for a good time now (as you see on the number of uploads) but i only got 500 subs. I'd like to give people value through my tracks and as a subscriber of you i thought that i have to ask.
Thx for your time to read this! Best regards🎉
I’ve had a busy few days so sorry for the delay on my reply. But you definitely have some great backing tracks. And I will definitely check some more of them out to see if I can work with them in a video. I would love to help you if I can. I know that success is around the corner for you! I will talk to you soon. Thanks.👌
@@rustysguitar1 no problem, i think your reply was quite fast! Thank you very much for your answer. I'm really looking forward to hear from you! I would really appreciate if there is a opportunity to give my channel an audience!
Have a great day!
Great. Keep up the reminders and your examples. It's good for reinforcement to learn the proper way. Nice shirt by the way. .
I’m always happy to help! Thanks for watching the last time! Talk to you soon👍
