START Sounding Connected Soloing Over The Changes Guitar
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 чер 2024
- Today we will learn how to start sounding connected when soloing over the chord changes. We can take our lead guitar soloing to the next level. Using the structure of the pentatonic scale that we already know we will start to play our guitar solos with confidence. This is an intermediate blues rock guitar lesson. But a guitar player that is just starting to solo will get something from this guitar lesson. Don't forget the backing track at the end of the video. Thanks for all your support this past year! Happy New Year everyone 🙏

Yes the backing track is helpful at the end to reinforce the lesson and give us a chance to practice, thanks!
@@MIDI3301 I’m glad to hear that! Thanks for letting me know! I hope you have a great 2024. Thanks.👍
Amazing lesson. Thanks Rusty.
yes include those tracks - many of us do this in slo-mo because copying you directly maximizes the lessons
Great backing track. Thanks.
Now Rusty, you know I was all over this. I’m putting my reps in. Endlessly studying triads now. I’m listening to you and calling out the fretboard landmarks. “There’s your (BB)house, ruuut note either the front or back door on high e. You have nothing but a weird treasure box. I can stop the video after the first riff. I say now you play it that soulful, can’t say you don’t know how. Jewels spilling out every second your mouth is moving. We could talk but we won’t. You already exhibit what the Master Teacher taught us to do.
Hey Cathy, I like the “freatboard landmarks” phrase!!! That’s a good one! I guess just a lifetime of my Guitar journey coming out as I teach! I’m glad you’re listening Cathy! Thanks for all your support in 2023! More to come in 2024. Happy new year.❤️
Thank you for the backing track. I can easily put the lesson into practice, without having to search for a backing track. Im sure it is a lot more work, but it is much appreciated. You offer more than anyone on here. Your lines are SO melodic and soulful. Thanks again, from a fellow Rusty.

Ahhh yes, “playing over the chord changes”. I’m gonna learn to do this if it kills me!! And, at 70 I’m going to have to pick it up, some!😂 Sure glad I found your site, Rusty! Your lessons are fantastic, especially for those of us whose “hard drives” are about full!😳😂 All the best to you and yours, this New Year!
Hey Craig, I resisted for many years myself. It’s just a focus you have to have every time you pick up the Guitar I’m still working on it myself. But all pro guitar players know where those chords are going. I’m glad you found my channel. We will keep working on the stuff together in 2024. Thanks Craig.👍
From Australia, you are a very pleasant gentleman displaying great attention to your lessons making it far more simplified than what I have experienced elsewhere. Thank you. I'll be your next student.

This is a great video! I've struggled with playing over chord changes, but this simple way of using the pentatonic is an eye opener. The backing track is an added bonus. Thank you, Sir.
Cool Mr. Texas! Just keep working on it. It took me a while just to concentrate on the chord changes themselves in my head. But let’s keep working on this stuff together in 2024! Happy new year buddy👍
Great presentation Rusty and as always some great tips 👍👍🎸🎸
Thanks Tony! I appreciate all your support this past year! Happy new year and I will talk to you soon✌️
Hi Rusty! Happy new year and all the best for 2024 🎉Great lesson as usual, I really enjoy those where you demonstrate the importance of knowing the underlying chords. Many thanks 🙏
Hey Jeff, keeping track of those chords is so important! Thanks for all your support! I wish you all the best in 2024 also. Thanks buddy.👍
Thx for the helpful lesson, Rusty. You mentioned that it took you years to connect the dots in relation to this lead playing concept... looking back, do you now know what was holding you back in this regard? I'm just asking because I'm entering the 4th year of my guitar journey, and though I'm happy with my DIY progress, there are times where things suddenly click and it's often something "fairly simple" which was holding me back - or probably seems simple because I figured it out. Are 1 on 1 lessons with a pro the solution?
I’m happy to help Tito! Two big things held me back. #1 not knowing the fretboard. #2 Not knowing the connection between chords and scales.(basic theory). Just knowing those two things can take you a long way on your Guitar journey. Those things make chord tones, triads, arpeggios and melodies make sense. But yes, one on one lessons is by far the best way to learn from a good teacher. But it sounds like you’re really moving forward. Thanks so much for all your support this year. Happy new year buddy.👍
@@rustysguitar1 Thank you, Rusty 👍 All the best in 2024.
@@tito.tarantula Thanks again for all your support this year Tito✌️
Great lesson, I should practice more my triads, but you make it so clear, Happy new year and thank you!
Thanks bro 😎 we all need more practice! I appreciate the comment. Happy new year to you also.👍
What a fantastic video rusty have a wonderful happy new year also what is your favorite year from the 2010s ❤😊
Thanks for watching! In 2023 I retired! I love it. Happy New Year 👍
I try to keep up following the changing chords, but soloing by following just the scale still sounds better. Should I just practice more by dilligently following the chord notes? Great lesson. Thank you!
For me, I tried to visualize the simple, triad chord shapes within the Pentatonix scale that I’m using. And then simply target or two of those notes. And sometimes double stops from the triad shapes. The important thing is resolving to a note that is in the chord. But there are some players that use their ear as they play through the pentatonic scale. Let’s keep getting better at this stuff together in 2024! Happy new year buddy.👍
@@rustysguitar1 Ok, so it's both ways, but resolving to a note that is in the chord is important. Thanks again and a happy new year to you!
@@postoffice146 👍
Hey Rusty, did You happen to notice on the lick at 6 minutes that you can also tie in some double stops for resolution? Very cool!
Yes, Stephen. I was trying to keep it simple for the video, but you can actually add double stops in quite a few places when improvising over the E-D-A chords. Thanks for the feedback, my friend! Happy new year.👍
@@rustysguitar1 No problem happy new year to you! Looking forward to more of your lessons this year

Really like your sound and style. Is there some biography on you anywhere - love to hear about your musical past.
Well, I appreciate that. Steve! I need to do a video on that topic for sure. Other people have asked also. I do have a few interviews from some other Guitar channels coming up in the spring and summer. They always ask about my journey. I will definitely put some community post out about those upcoming videos. Thanks a lot for taking the time to leave a great comment like this. Thanks so much for your support. Happy new year Steve.👍
😂❤ yes good lesson big brother
Cool! Thanks a lot for watching😎
Great lesson Rusty, during the chord changes I have a hard time thinking fast enough to follow the changes. This makes me always go for the root of the chord on the change (on the 1 beat) would you say shooting for the root on the 1 beat is a good habit? All my scale patterns I learn and visualize triads is all from the root note. So moving fast to a major 3rd for example on the 1 beat is difficult. Cheers 👍
The homebase note is always a good habit. So you are following the changes if you’re doing that. Just try targeting the major third I just one of the chords and little by little you will be able to do it on all of them. Thanks for checking out the video and have a great weekend.👍

Haven’t seen you in a year
Wow! It has been a whole year Clifton! Thanks for all your support this PAST year!!! Happy new year buddy👍
If E is a tonic, then D-7 flat and A-4 step in the end we have a Mixolydian for solo, right?
Yes, that is correct! I’m one of those players that adds chord tones to the Pentatonic scale. But the mixolydian mode is a great way to look at it! Thanks a lot for checking out the video👍
I've been a guitar dabbler on and off for 40 years. I can play open and barre chords just fine. Since I retired, I bought a new Ibenez Ax-6 and play every day but I just struggle playing riffs, runs, anything on a single string. What can I do to get the proper mechanics???
We just need to keep working on this stuff! Thanks for checking out the video! Happy new year👍
Dp you include PDF prints of the lead lessons?

why are you using the E major pentatatonic . and not the A major pentatonic as i take it your in the key off A major , using Amajor E major, and D major , thats confused me
In this progression, there is two full bars of E. And one bar each of the D and A chords. So, even though these cords are in the key of A the tonal center is E. So the E major pentatonic works very well. But you can definitely look at it as E mixolydian(A major scale starting on the E note) There’s a lot of options to solo over these three cords. I like using a central main scale, and filling in with the notes of each chord. Takes a lot for checking out the video. That was a great question. I hope helped answer it. Happy new year.👍
