Practice Guitar "AROUND THE CHORD" For Better Improvising
Вставка
- Опубліковано 31 тра 2024
- Playing around the chord is a great way to practice guitar for better improvising. This is an intermediate guitar lesson. If we do this everyday we will start to have a connection with the chord and the notes that we choose. This will make our improvising so much better. if you’re just practicing the pentatonic scale over and over, try practicing like this! We will use the G major chord for these examples today. There are many ways to practice to get better at improvising. But this concept will really give you a connection on the fretboard. The notes in the chords(chord tones) will definitely keep you connected as you play a lead guitar solo. This exercise gives you an efficient way to practice for your lead guitar Soloing. We will be using G major for these examples, but this can be done with any chord and any key. if you are just using the pentatonic scale, this video will send you on a path to sound more melodic and connected as you play your lead guitar solos.

Rusty, REALLY appreciate your teaching!..keep on rockin' in the free world brother!..blessings to you! :-)
Thanks so much for supporting my channel this way Les!!! I really do appreciate it! And you have a rockin week also brother🙏
I'VE BEEN PLAYING THAT WAY FOR YEARS BUT I NEVER KNEW THAT WAS CALLED PHRASING, THANKS, IT'S JUST LIKE ARPEGGIOS AND SCALES I PLAY THEM, BUT I DON'T KNOW THE NAMES OF THEM.55 years of playing guitar, and I'm still learning, what names are, like triads, I've been playing those for over 40 years I never knew they were called triads.. but I developed a fantastic ear...
A good ear is just as important as all that other stuff. Try to set a goal for one month or a few months from now and have a section memorized. And then more long-term goals and try to reach those. It is hard the older we get, but you won’t regret it.Thank you Jim 👍

Your an incredible teacher. Your just on another level.
Cool, Jeremy😎 Thanks for taking the time to watch my lessons! Catch you later.👍
There are some good guitar teachers on UA-cam, but everytime time I tune in to this channel I learn something useful or am reminded of a concept I may have forgotten the importance of. You are consistently providing great teaching and techniques.
I'm 60, disabled and can't do much physically. Along with my family, 2 of the greatest passions of my life have been that Book you have open on that table and that instrument you have in your hand. I appreciate what you're doing on this channel. You have the gift of making simple what many people complicate,
and I'm glad to see your subscribers continuing to rise.
You are an inspiration, a great player and a great example.
Thanks for what you're doing here.
I feel a kindred spirit with you.
Thank you so much, Todd! I love this message! I read the Bible every day in my studio. And I leave it open so people will see it and comment. But yes, the older I get the more I love playing that guitar for sure! So, hopefully some of these lessons will help add some tools, to help you have more fun also! Great to hear from you! Enjoy the rest of your week🙏
Amen to that !!!
Another important lesson today, Rusty - cool antique guitar!
That guitar feel’s and sounds so good! Thanks Karen! Always great to see you here! Enjoy your week 👍
These are really helpful 😊
I’m happy to help! Thanks👍
Thanks! Getting to know the fretboard better just an old soul living in the new world
Thanks so much for this support Jay! Means a lot to me! Early and I did not even think about learning the fretboard. I just want to play classic rock songs. But it really hurt my progression of learning. Many players can say the same thing. The fretboard can really give you confidence as you learn. Thanks again I really appreciate it Jay.👌
@@rustysguitar1 your welcome Rusty love your style of rock all good in South Texas 🌴🌴 🐟🐠 ⛵ JTH

Very Good Concept ! . Thanks/Gracias !.
Thank you much! And you’re very welcome👍
Fabulous and imperative ♦️
Many thanks 👍
Great lesson, Rusty! Definitely helped me connecting the barre chord with the cord inversion, which I was previously clueless about lol. Thank you.
I’m glad to hear that DC! Sounds like you’re moving forward! Have a great week👍
Thank you!! Great lesson!! 👍❤
You’re welcome! And thank you also👌
I do not recall this Strat, Rusty............looks like it's gone to war and back with you! Jim C.
I’ve had the guitar for a while. I bought it used and it was worn already. Red table with that as I started stripping it. All of these different colors in the wood came out. So I just sanded some areas a little more. It’s definitely my new favorite guitar. It has stainless steel frets and custom shop pick ups. Feels like an old friend. Always good to hear from you Jim! Talk to you soon.👌
Excellent lesson
Much appreciated. Thanks.👍
I spent most of my time in the beginning learning minor keys! It’s great to learn some major tricks! Thanks Rusty🎉
Oh yes, the major! Thanks 👌
Just what I needed. Spent too much time playing scales and not enough time connecting the notes of the chords. This should have thousands of views.
You and me both! I’m glad you liked the video! Thanks and have a great rest of your week👍
Thanks mate 👍
Perfect just enough to work with other phases and riff's coming right along enjoy the Day thanks JTH
Thanks JTH! Good to hear from you 👍
Wonderful!
Thank you, Edoardo! Talk to you soon👍
Amazing that you always come up with good lessons and so much inspirations. Thank you very much Rusty. Cheers from Indonesia.
And I have fun doing it! Thanks so much Mustafa 👍
Another great lesson Rusty!!!
Thanks so much 👍
thank you very much teacher!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Rusty another great lesson!! Love this one, you make learning so enjoyable 🎉
I’m glad to hear that Steven! I always appreciate you watching my lessons. Thanks.👍
I am intrigued by the finish on that guitar 😳
It’s a 50th anniversary strat that I bought used. It was already beat up. So I decided to strip it down. As I did, the wood started getting this wild look. Because of all the wear. So I decided just to tint some stain slightly with some yellow and red. It definitely looks wild! I love the guitar, though it has stainless steel frets. And custom shop pick ups. So it’s a player guitar for sure. Thanks for checking out the video man.👍
if you want a solid sound and great feel to your solo's...playing around the chords ....well done Rusty...got a new video out , c.u
So many beginner, intermediate players bypass this step. Thanks for checking out the video John.👍
Great lesson Rusty!
Cheers,
Martin
I appreciate that! Thanks, Martin👍
Rusty it’s coming together. Suddenly I’m getting some traction. I am doing better at not flitting about but taking my time and learning to hear what I see on the fret board map.
I’m glad to hear that Cathy! Sounds like things are starting to click! Hope you have a wonderful weekend ❤️
Rusty, thank you for awesome lesson, connecting chords with every else on the fretboard is amazing tool!
Hey RAFA! It’s good stuff to work on! Thanks buddy👌
thank you
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks Ken! I really love that guitar! Later bud 😎
Thank you Rusty. Good stuff here.
You’re welcome! Glad you like the lesson. Thanks.👍
I really like your style of teaching. I will incorporate these ideas into my oractice routine.
Glad to hear it Dave! Thanks👍
I spent far too many years just flying around the pentatonic scales, thinking I sounded great! There was no melodic structure at all to my playing. This lesson is so important with such a strong message to those wanting actually learn how to play. Loving the Hendrix vibe in your playing. Great work, Rusty.
Well, said David! I was the same way early on! Just having a little more structure really does help you progress so much faster. Thanks 👍
UA-cam knows I watch/ subscribe to 15 guitar player channels so they sent me a notification to watch and, I've been playin' on and off (right now I'm laid up so ..off) again for decades. I'm just sponging up 🎸 related stuff until I can practically apply it. I knew most of this but, not all of it yet. I still haven't memorized the notes on the fretboard or triads but it's videos like yours that keep me in touch with the instrument so when I'm able to play I'll know what to practice. I can jam in the pentatonic scales but, triad's, modes and basic theory are things I'll need to work on.
So thanks man, Iook forward to seeing you more. I'll subscribe to your channel. 1 more can't hurt right?
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel! If you can jam with the pentatonic scales you’re probably already using triads, and Chord tones in your solo. You just don’t know it YET! I appreciate your feedback Stan! Keep rockin buddy 🤛
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I found portions of your teachings to be familiar; things I know and play but, I play what sounds good in a given key, and resolve back to the root , use double stops but, as you said I've got a limited idea of where the notes are across the fretboard. Meaning I can't just play every G note without counting or comparing but, I'm not finished learning like any of us so I'd like to improve like any of us right .
I appreciate you putting it out there. I enjoyed your passionate, humble and enthusiastic approach to teaching guitar.
Keep up the good work and I'll be watching 🤜
I’m happy to help Stan! It sounds like you’re excited to learn more and connect the dots! We’ll keep working at it together! Thanks a lot! Catch you later😎
@@rustysguitar1 I am! We'll keep working at it then huh Rusty ...see ya soon man ✌️❤️🎸🎶🙏
@stanphillips7277 Sounds good Stan! Later 😎
Cool stuff 😎👍🎸
Thank you, Joseph👍
Thanks
Thanks Rusty. Just my opinion but I have found teaching my 11 year old nephew has made me a better player. I really have to think about what I teach him and analyse things, like why something sounds good or how to connect everything. My fav quote about music comes from Keith Richards, "if it sounds good play it, if it doesn't, don't play it". Take care, Rusty.
You are right, Ray! I think about that in the same way with my channel. I need to stay on my toes, and at least kind of sound like I know what I’m talking about! Ha ha!😂 if it sounds good play it! That is a good one! Thanks, Ray👍
Thanks again for this support! Always greatly appreciated Ray! Talk to you soon man😎
Awesome Rusty , Dude I'm back on line I missed a few of your videos , I'll be catchin' up for sure :)
Always good to hear from you, Daniel! Thanks buddy👍
This really needs a good video with tabs and diagrams.. I have looked for something like this for along time. Can you go back and make a longer video, or several videos, with diagrams and tabs? Thanks.
Hey Michael, I will definitely expand on this topic because it is so important. In this video, I did a super slow breakdown. Calling out the notes, fret numbers, and what string. Tabs would make it easier to play through the notes, but it definitely will not help the information sink in. I don’t use tabs for that reason. Playing the right notes is only a small part of playing the guitar. Thanks man 👍
Brilliant lesson Rusty..........I'm focusing on this type of playing all the time now..........also I'm practicing with a metronome to get the hang of eight and sixteenth note strumming to incorporate it into my leads........I'm always amazed at how easily you explain stuff you make it very accessible for anyone to learn.........thanks so much Rusty Paul from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you, Paul! Yes, the metronome is a very important tool. You are practicing in the right way! Later bud 😎
Thank you.......👍nice geetar man.
You’re welcome, WJ! Later👍
Amezing tutorial guitar
Thank you 👍
Rusty, your lessons are even making YOU a better player....that's a sign of what a great teacher you are 👍
You’re right, Jeff! Teaching really keeps you on your toes. I’m having more fun now playing that guitar than I ever have before. I appreciate your kind feedback! Talk to you soon buddy.👍

I really appreciate your support Brian! I’m glad you like the channel! Thanks so much mate! Cheers 👍
This support means a lot to me 👌
Just amazed at how easy you make understanding ! Really appreciate your lessons. Thank you Rusty.
Good to hear from you, my friend! Another important concept for sure. Praying for you and your family my brother.🙏
Im guessing the Bible is opened somewhere in Romans? 3:23 maybe? Great vid Rusty!
Thanks for checking out the video! You were close, but it’s open to the book of John. But I really do like Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.🙏🙏🙏 Blessings to you ✌️
Great Lesson, I guess its time for me to stop noodling around the pentatonic. Thanks. Also any help on the Tone?
Adding a little more structure to your playing will make you excited again about the guitar 🎸 I will do a tone video soon. Thank you my friend 👍
This is well said! With this knowledge, we just need to move forward! Thanks a lot for watching my lessons and have a great week👍
Rusty, you got a new guitar.
I like it. What’s the story?
It’s a 50th anniversary Stratocaster. I got it used a few years ago. It had some wear. I decided to strip off the paint, and then all these shades started coming out of the wood grain. So I just lightly stained it and it’s definitely one of a kind. It has stainless steel frets custom shop pick ups. I love LOVE that Guitar!!! Thanks for checking out the video.👍
This must be for very advanced players who dont need this anyway.
You right,,,, already play it 😊
Hi Rusty, what’s going on with that Strat ? Is it something you built or relicked ?
I bought the guitar used years ago. It already was beat up. I decided to strip it down. Then I realized that there were alot of cool things in the wood. So I just lightly stained it. And it’s a 50th anniversary strat. 2004. It has stainless steel frets and custom shop pick ups. Thanks bro 😎
where can i get the tabs for the vidios
Hey John, I believe it’s better to learn by seeing and hearing the notes. So I don’t use tabs. My lessons are tools for improvising. Using tabs make it difficult to improvise. Thanks so much for watching the videos! Catch you later 👍
The videos are usually good but after showing the triads you need more diagrams as to where you are sliding to and what you are playing.
I did call out every fret number and string as I as I played very slowly.
You never fail to deliver 🤘
Cool 😎! Very glad to hear it. Thanks.👍
