Honestly, it depends on the class and how well the teacher actually “teaches” that helps decide whether cheating was appropriate or not.
I think I’ve just lucked out with most of my teachers being pretty great at actually teaching me the info. I have cheated before, but with the teachers I’m thinking about, Ive never actually needed to cheat in their classes. We were given decent tests that ask for the information but aren’t so massive that you’re gonna throw up. There was one or two occasions where, because I honestly got caught with other work, spent only an hour studying before having test in class. And I passed it with a solid 93. I already understood plenty of the information on the test without even studying it in the hour before. That’s how good my teachers were at educating me and my classmates. So you can imagine how sick I felt to my stomach when I run into teachers who make the most nonsensical choices ever and pretty much force the student to take initiative in teaching himself concepts that he hasn’t even begun to understand.

I lucked out with sensible teachers. Hated lazy nonsensical idiots.

Speed running is not cheating, it's an art form
I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm downplaying speedrunning though. I actually respect it very much and enjoy events like AGDQ :D
Speed running often relies on glitches or other game mechanics to shave seconds off stuff. Mario is a perfect example. Not bad, but it does happen at high level speedrunning.
I think the only proper speedrunning is glitchless. Because doing it with glitches is like "just do it so often until its muscle memory and then chain the glitches afap (as fast as possible). Which is not something that really takes skill in my book, just dedication and a lot of time.
While doing it glitchless is about optimizing the route, optimizing item collection or whatever the game calls for. And then there's the fact, that glitchless speedrunners actually need to be able to beat the game properly.
I mean I like seeing what kind of glitches you can use, but I am not really that impressed by it, just like "yes. this is funny, so you glitch through a wall to trigger a loading zone into a dungeon you shouldnt be in haha."
RhodosGuard your second paragraph can also be said about glitch runs, cause they also have to optimize things, not to mention some glitches or tricks require very surgeon like accuracy to accomplish. But I do see what you mean about glitch less runs.
RhodosGuard I think a glitched run can take just as much skill as a glitchless run, depending on the game. They're both equally valid ways of playing the game, but they are fundamentally different, which is why separate speedrunning categories exist. Obviously if a game's world record for glitchless is one hour but using this glitch you can do it in one minute, nobody is going to say it's fair to discredit the hard work of the one hour record. Same thing with Any% vs. 100%.
