@@stevea6722 I don't think the gun liner is the problem since it was burning out inside the welder housing before it even got to the gun liner. That indicates the current was flowing from the gun feed spool to the back of the case.
Replace the whole liner, the wire is seeking a ground that isn't completed. The wire would instantly weld off at any direct ground contact. That was heat build up from resistance not a short. If the ground short was in the spool it might also create that resistance? I believe the inner liner on the gun extends into the machine so just replace that entire thing. Plus you get new tips. 😂
@@stevea6722 It isn't the liner. It is shorting out somewhere between the drive rollers and the spool hanging on the back. It looked like to me that is shorted out on the factory spool holder in the welder. the wire turned red between the spool holder and drive rollers.
It's crazy looking back 22ish years ago when i got my 120v lincoln from the depot for around 800 bucks. Still runs great. Just keep feeding it wire and silver shield. Perfect for what i do around the property. Horse panels, exhaust work, sticking metal together for random projects. Thanks for showing what's available out there now. 😀👍👍💪
Sean, I'm betting if you look over the settings on your new welder....you will find that it's in 4T mode on the mig gun. Set it to 2T to have trigger function like a normal welder. 2T and 4T settings are kinda TIG related, but I'm sure on a multi-process machine there is some carry over between modes.
@@89Built Please at least skim the manual. There are a lot of setting you can adjust to get it to work better and also to save gas on the post gas. And there is a setting for 2T 4T as well.
The wire is grounding out at the hole in the back of the case. Put the spool back inside the case where it's supposed to be or put a plastic bushing in the hole.
IT'S GOOOD TO SEE YA GET A NEW ALL IN ONE WELD'N CUT'N MACHEEN ! REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO YOU & DAD'S VIDEOS MAKES ME REMEMBER MY DAD . GREAT TO SEE YA DOING WELL ALL THE VIEWS AND SUBSCRIBES . KEEP ON KEEP'N ON . LOVE PEACE & JOY TO YOU & YOURS .
It’s nice that your practical in purchasing items and it’s wonderful how you explain how your doing the job . Your a natural as your father is as well I can see why your doing well on your own ❤
The new welder/plasma cutter is pretty sweet. If you set the mode for the torch to 2T instead of 4T, the torch should turn on while you are holding the trigger and stop when you let go. There is probably a 1T option as well and that would be for tack welding. When you pull the trigger, the torch stays on long enough for a tack weld. I have an Eastwood welder that I like but it is MIG only. I have access to a TIG/stick welder as well, that belongs to my son but no plasma cutter yet. Wish I would have known about this combo unit 5 years ago, but it may not have existed then.
The newer machines will have ramp up for the amperage and slope out when using high frequency. At work we don’t use the pedal much. We use the trigger hold function off on while tig welding with a push button.
Sean, pretty fancy rig you got there. All we used growing up was a 6011 or 7018 rod on a old lincoln welder you had to hand crank and hope it didn't rip your arm off getting it started. How things have changed. Sean will always be proud of ya for your step of Faith. Thanks for taking me along on your new adventures. As always my very best to you and your family.
Pretty straight forward, the wire is grounding out on the case. I guess it's not in it's original location to run larger spools? I guess if you need an excuse to buy a new toy, whatever you gotta tell the wife 😅 Love my multi-process "affordable" welder!
Looks like the new wielder, cutter, mig, tig combo unit is going to work out pretty well. Will just have to see on the long term on how well it holds up over time.
Great video Sean. Showin how the new welder works in the different mode was neat. I was just thinking, “Sean needs some Brighter lights in his garage “ then you mention the light, lol🤙😎
I just love these multi purposse machines... welder/cutter/whutnot... but it CAN be cumbersome to rewire every time you wanna switch modus. Impressed by your duty cycle though... banger ! So I have two now, one for stickwelding only... AND it has a real low duty cycle, so it'll be replaced soon, and then a multi-one setup for plasmacutting 🙂
That is a really cool wielder with the plasma cutter. Learned how to arch wield/ stick way back in 7th grade. Watching you work with that unit makes me want to relearn how to wielding. thanks for the vids.
I am not an expert welder. I am teaching myself to weld. For DIY projects, as a hobby, for something to do as a positive distraction, and for therapy. Woodworking is my primary hobby. I have the YES CT2050 7-n-1 welder. Mine does not MIG weld or have the aluminum spool gun, but does everything else as yours does. There should be a setting on the control panel for the trigger. I think it is "2T" & "4T". One setting is as it came, and the other is to set it as pull and release on the trigger like you are used to. For MIG welding, I have the HF Titanium 170. I have the YES welder set up with the plasma cutter. Both units have dual input voltage, 120V or 240V. I have both of them sitting on a HF Vulcan welding cart. It holds two gas bottles, drawers and a cabinet. I still need to get gas for the TIG and gas for the MIG. Just running flux core for the moment. I like my setup. Now that you have a plasma cutter, take a look at JD's Garage UA-cam channel. He has two different versions of a DIY CNC plasma cutting tables you maybe interested in. Doing the DIY CNC plasma cutter will be cheaper than the one Fab Rats (Paul) uses.
I've seen people mention you need a grommet where the wire comes through the back but having the ground clamped to your cart is the bigger issue. Sometimes we overlook the simplest of issues.
Please check out the liner of the mig gun. It's worn the plastic lining and grounding out. New liner +/- 50 bucks and fixed. I am enjoying your channel. Thanks
Good morning from Maui, thank you for showing that welder/plasma cutter hopefully one day I can afford one of those ,for the time being I gotta stick with my Lincoln wire feeder and oxy/acetylene torch but one can dream, anyway keep up the great content and stay safe for Christmas and the New Year
Where the wire is going through the welder box at the back of the welder it was grounding out of the box that big roll was not made to go on that welder someone added it to the rear and it is shorting to the box which is grounded. I think even though I cant say for sure but you maybe able get a rubber gromment to but in the hole or a piece of rubber hose to stick in the hole and insulate it and no longer be shorting. I have seen this a few times before in shops and people try to make larger rolls work in the welder. Also needs a cleaner but on the wire so you are not dragging all the dirt through your stinger. Have A wonderful day
My current welding shop Harbor Freight stick welder, Harbor Freight multi welder stick mig tig. A Forney flux mig rig. A gas welding /cutting Set. 3 welding shop in 70 years.
Steve’s place down under in Australia just did a review on exactly the same welder and is giving one away on his UT channel. Steve was very impressed with it. You are going to really enjoy it. I’m hoping I might be the luck one to win the one from Steve’s channel, but dreams are free😂. Happy Days from kiwi land.
Once your boys get a little bit older I would use that spare helmet and let them learn. I taught my boys and didn't have to weld (unless they were busy playing) until they were grown. They both could weld by the time they were 10. That's a pretty nice unit they certainly have come a long way.😁
Shaun, Outstanding Work and Great Content , looking on upgrading to the same welder Thanx for sharing your Great experience with your work and your new welder Have a Great Day 👍 Your da Man
A fresh coat of white paint on your walls and celing would brighten up your shop quite a bit. Might need fewer lights, or you might not have to moove lights arround as much that way.
I don't think its where you have run the wire through the box but it maybe? I believe you have a wore out liner inside of you're whip handle witch is easy to check and change . Good luck!!!!!!!!!!
Shawn there is probably a setting for 2T or 4T on your MIG settings you need to select. 4T is the click on then click off setting and 2t will set it to start and stop like you are used to.
Simber sounds like a good replacement welder/plasma cutter for you Sean and best of luck with it because the price is right! Good video and content as usual.
I bet it's a setting with the trigger. If I didn't have my setup, I probably would get that system. I need more experience with the plasma to get better at it, but the older I get, the more I shake.

The Lincoln was ground to the table you had it sitting on 0:54 and 4:26 you see the ground not sure if that would cause that situation but worth checking out.
There is a 2T/4T setting on your welder. If it is set at 4T, the trigger will function as you mentioned about 15:45. Change it back to 2T, and it will function like you are used to before. Check the manual (or YT University) to see where each function works best.

There should be a plastic bushing in the case of your Lincoln welder that keeps the wire insulated from frame ground. I'll bet it's worn through.
Or maybe the lead liner through to the gun. Lincoln builds an excellent welder.
