FYI that's the coast of Scotland that you're seeing in the background. Scotland gets far less credit for how beautiful a place it is then most people would realize
Shanties are popular with people who enjoy folk music, in the same way that waulking songs are popular in Celtic circles, and for the same reason -- they were historically created to help keep the rhythm of a repetitive task so they have a strong beat, and they're often a call and response structure so they're easy for a group to sing along with. The lead vocal is always telling a story, using the 1st and 3rd lines. The 2nd and 4th lines are often simple and repeated in each verse, intended to be sung by the rest of the group or an audience. Once you've heard the first verse, you can join in even if you've never heard it before. Just learn 2 simple lines. "Bound Away Bound away!... We're bound for South Australia" or "Leave her Johnny, leave her!... And it's time for us to leave her." That's all you need and you're right in the middle of it with everyone else. So they're just fun to play with.
there are bands that still make sea shanty's but it is certainly less popular one of my favourites is Heres a health to the company by the longest johns you should check it out also alestorm shipwrecked is more of a rock song but i realy enjoy the accent and story in the song
If you liked that I also suggest Santiana, Leave her Johnny, and also bones in the ocean by the longest John's for really nice sea shanties but one of my all time favorites is Fucked by an anchor by alestorm it's a hilarious song
If anyone here has seen the Trailer Park Boys version of this song please vouch for me that it's the best thing ever made cuz I really think it is. Just look up 'Trailer Park Boys Sea Shanty and it'll be pop up.
You've done Lorna shore, to the hellfire, you've experienced the crazy vocals. Now you should check out Will Ramos, their signer. Covering - HYPNOSIS by SLEEP TOKEN. it REALLY is worth the watch.
I have been a seaman for a couple of years and I actually despise sea chanty songs, because they usually don't have anything to do with what it is like to life on a ship and work there. But I have to admit, that I liked this song. Possibly because I don't understand the vocals, since I am not a native speaker and this accent is tricky to understand for me. So I can only judge the musical aspect.
Technically the sea shanty doesn't have to be about life at sea its only purpose is to set the pace of working hence why it's only sung while working, it's too keep everyone in the ship moving together at the same pace, no different then people in the military singing cadence while marching
I wish the longest johns got credit for that song they were doing sea shanties on youtube n shit way before anyone else and straight up sound better than Nathan evans
yeah they just got overshadowed and now even google credits Evan. frick Evan legit here's an upload made before evan's with only 440k ua-cam.com/video/-FIf3fXPF6Q/v-deo.html
Long live the Pirate Republic.

He literally got a record deal because of him singing it on tiktok. There are so many stitches where people add harmonies and it’s amazing
