Fun fact, the director of photography for The Matrix, Bill Pope was sick of green screens after working on the first three Matrix films, he wanted to try something new. So he took the job of DP for Team America.
Wow that’s pretty incredible.
Um, given Matt and Trey, I don't know that I'd use the abbreviation "DP".

Ok. Dere må se meg med biceps. Jeg kan ikke forklare nærmere. We good?
I, the junior Lance Corporal in my unit (MAG-24, 3rd Marines), was the Designated Driver for a rowdy group of young, buzzed Marines on the Premeire weekend for this movie outside Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. We were all "South Park" fans and I personally was a Trey Parker and Matt Stone Fanboy ("Cannibal: The Musical" and "Basketball")...so we were ALL already hyped. Believe you me, we were all CRACKING UP! The rest of the audience was going bananas too. A 300+ crowd audience was sitting through the entire end credits, just to hear the FULL VERSION of the "AMERICA: F*CK YEAH!" song. One of my favorite memories of being a Marine. 3 of my friends from that weekend later died in Iraq and on other missions. Movies like this are a time-capsule of GEN X and Early Millennial humor. Glad you liked it! Check out "Cannibal: The Musical" or the actual Trey Parker/Matt Stone musical Production: "The Book of Mormon" .
@@Ultra_Fine_Point Thanks for the shared memory. Sorry you ended up losing those friends.
RIP brave souls.
Ask anyone who was 7-12 yrs old about this movie and I guarantee 1/3 will say their parental guardian yelled at the poor movie manager about how they should’ve been warned (even with it being rated R)… that’s how great this movie is…
Also, in Basic Training we had a pet rock, it’s name was….. Gary.
Thank you for your service, Marine.
"I thought he was about to make an announcement to everyone about what Gary had to do to gain your trust." Addie's reaction two seconds later. 🤣That totally made my day.
It's like...Yeah...about that...
Yeah, this was not made for her, I could almost hear the whoosh sound as every joke flew over her head.😅
The adorable Addie: "I don't exactly know what I'm getting myself into with this one." 😅
Me: "Oh you poor, sweet, summer child."
Not just puppets, these are Marionette Puppets. Marionettes are the most difficult to use and that's what really stands out in this film.
Supermarrionation. Taken from the Thunderbirds.
@kevharper1378 Thunderbirds are go!
Probably the best cinematic masterpiece ever made. Right up there with Citizen Kane and Starship Troopers.
Based for SST
"Starship Troopers" .. subversive brilliance.. operates on so many levels.
Kudos to Addie for being a good sport and getting through this. Her reactions were priceless!
You should definitely do “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut!”
And Beavis and Butthead Do America.
I wouldn't jump into it without having seen at least the first season of SP.
Orgazmo (1997) on the other hand is pretty good.
@@ramonacosta2647 Maybe I enjoyed it too much, but the sequel, Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, is amazing too.

The scariest thing is that this movie is 20yrs old. I was on vacation from the UK and saw it in an Ann Arbor cinema one rainy afternoon. I don't think I've ever heard a crowd go so nuts with laughter, often with a half a second of stunned silence first.
Never forget 😂

I had that same kind of movie experience with Tropic Thunder. The entire theater was just erupting with laughter.

"THESE PUPPETS BLEED!!"
These puppets do way more than that. Addie is going to be a bit traumatized by the end of this movie.
I'm here for it.
Never thought I'd see the day Addie reacting to Team America. Now we need to start a petition for her to watch South Park 😂😅
fun fact Originally, Matt Damon (who Trey Parker and Matt Stone have admitted is really a "pretty cool guy") was going to be portrayed as intelligent and articulate, but when they saw the puppet, they noted that it made him "look mentally challenged" and decided to portray him as such.
And both Matt and Trey loved the gag so much that they took turns voicing him.
And the best part? It cracked the real Matt Damon up! He loved it! 😂😂😂
@elijahvincent985
No, he didn't, he took it personally and was very offended over it, actually...I don't know where you got that from, cause Matt and Trey say the exact opposite, which they should know.
Hey
@@BilkoMX124- That's not my impression. He said that he knew that they just went for the public image, but he wasn't sure what the point of that depiction was. But nothing about being really offended. But I think his "feud" with Jimmy Kimmel shows that he is quite able to make fun of himself.
Sean Penn, on the other hand, *he* was offended.
The Michael Moore puppet was filled with ham when it blew it. My favorite fact about the movie.
They tried to be true to life.
The explosion was so big because he's a gas bag.
2:13 20 years on from seeing this in the theater, I can still remember the ROAR of laughter from the audience when those two puppets started “fighting” 😂
The speech about the three types of people is the most acceptable summation of humanity ever recorded. Socrates, Shakespeare and Sigmund Freud didn't understand humanity as well as this speech does.
“These puppets bleed.” - That should be on the movie poster.
That's hilarious!
Or better yet, on a potential Addie t-shirt.
Masterpiece.

When the movie was complete, they gave a screening to executives and other Paramount Studios people. In the first shot there was the cheap-looking puppet on a cardboard background. One of the executives jumped out of his seat and shouted, "Oh my GOD! They f__ked us!!!"
If you didn't do it, I would've said this tale
17:53 The most epic and sublime moment of the movie with the most epic soundtrack in the world and that is "The super extreme vomit" scene
I think Addie is the real MVP of this reaction video. She just rolled with all of the South Park style humor. She also put a TON of time into the editing I'm sure 🤣
Team America was inspired by a 60s British TV show called "Thunderbirds" ... which was an Action Adventure program made with puppets. The puppets used in Team America were designed to be an updated version of the Thunderbirds puppets.
The 60s show is actually really good but it doesn’t contain any of the South Park style humor of Team America.
@@dancolon47 meh, it's like 3rd order simulacra of the Thunderbirds, just like all of their other tired, broad parodies
It says a lot about how bad the 2004 live-action Thunderbirds film was that Gerry Anderson thought that this film was a more faithful adaptation of the series
When I was in college in 2002/3 the old cable channel TechTV played Thunderbirds every night, I watched it after my main shows ended.

i love all the little details in the costumes to indicate the actual size of the puppets, like actual us coins as belt buckles and such.
To this day, I cannot see Matt Damon in a movie without uttering the iconic "Matt Damon" from this film.
They got all their dolls in, and found Matts to look a bit off. Stone/Parker shrugged it off and worked it into their film, by making Damon a little "Special" 🤣
You should really watch South Park : Bigger, Longer and Uncut after this. Just be ready, whoever edits your videos is gonna have a lot of work ahead of them, to keep that video Monetization worthy.

Yessss lmao
What they/them/good man yerself said ⬆⬆⬆⬆
Supposedly they were worried about what Matt would think, and it turned out he was actually pretty angry.
Because they didn't ask him to voice himself. He says he would have.
The unrated version of this movie takes the love scene between Gary and Lisa to a whole different level...kinda wish you had watched that version, but this was still a very fun reaction to see. Glad you enjoyed it!
When I saw the movie title, I couldn't click on it fast enough! 🤣
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut is peak cinema. And it is probably quite accessible to newbies.
The 'heroic purging' sequence in this movie... nearly killed me. The heroic music, the copious vomit, the look on Gary's face. I couldn't breathe.
It’s also a musical, which is pretty cool.
edit: I mean, both movies are.
"There's so much puppet violence in this"
Knowing what was coming... XD
This is one of those movies where you laugh more AFTER the movie is over because you're brain just can't keep up. Tropic Thunder is another.
🎶And they call it... puppet love!🎶
The panther joke has always been my favorite part of this movie. Finally, somebody understands!!
If I understand correctly, Alec Baldwin & Matt Damon were primarily upset that they hadn't been asked to provide their own voices for the movie--they said they'd have been happy to! (Sean Penn, on the other hand, was predictably indignant about the whole thing.)
The crappy mini puppet in the beginning was meant to troll the producers into thinking the whole movie was like that. Apparently, a Paramount executive shouted, "Oh my God, they f***ed us!" during one of the advanced screenings before the camera panned out.
Despite pleading from fans for a sequel, Matt and Trey have said there won't be one because of how difficult filming with the puppets was.
The reason Matt Damon only says his name is because of how the puppet turned out. Someone said it looked like a re***ded Matt Damon and they ran with it. Damon himself supposedly found it hilarious.
As for the other celebrities, the only one genuinely butthurt about the way he was portrayed was Sean Penn (no surprise). He sent Matt and Trey an angry letter, which they released to the public. Alec Baldwin and George Clooney were only upset that they weren't asked to voice themselves.
Housecats as panthers was okay ... if you look carefully at the enormous statue of Kim, it's a person and he blinks...
It's also Trey's head with a puppet body lying in the vomit.
23:37 the pure shock on her face. So far into the movie and still throwing curve balls on her 😂
And she already thought Cats was traumatizing enough...
"You have balls. I LIKE balls"😂
@BradSimsCPT
Durka durka, Muhammed jihad.
Ohhh, durka durka durka
George clooney really wanted to do his voice because he has worked with Matt and trey before, and Matt Damon considers this his favorite role. Some celebrities love south park and Matt and trey, but most dont
Matt Damon wasn’t in the movie - they didn’t even use his voice, just had a puppet that kinda looked like him.
Where did you see that he considered it has favorite role? I can’t find that anywhere.
From an interview: “The actor was asked recently in a Reddit AMA what he thought about his 'appearance' in the movie, and it seems he was a bit confused by it.
"I was always kind of bewildered by Team America, I think because it’s hard for us to understand what our images are in public, I think we’re not good judges of that, and when I saw myself on screen just only able to say my own name and not really that well, I kind of wondered “Wow, is that how people perceive me?"”
Your reaction to the best parts of the movie were cut!! 😢😢😢😂
Matt Stone and Trey Parker said they would never do another movie like this again. the amount of time and energy it took to get the takes usable was apparently a NIGHTMARE.
Yeah, I heard that the love making scene alone took over two weeks to get right.
I remember nearly wetting myself after the intro to this movie , the look on the Parisians faces when they see the destruction Team America have wrought on Paris is priceless ........ like France would never speak to the US ever again if this happened 😂
One of the funniest movies ever. There are so many levels of jokes in this. It's simply brilliant in its social commentary.
Saw this the opening weekend, Crazy how loud it was in the theater. This one lady many rows in front of me had the best laugh! I can still hear it! Had to buy it on DVD to finally hear all the jokes. Unrated version is only about 5 seconds longer, Two extra scenes added to the puppet sex. My friend almost died of laughter when he saw them, so use caution.
Watching someone who isn't familiar with South Park is a gift. The fact that it's Addie is a gift from God!
It's been a good 15 years since I last watched this. The short scenes and your reaction had me going. Now I gotta watch it
I worked in theatres when it came out. The swag they sent out to promote the movie was team America condoms
LOL
"why was that your first example?" im gonna laugh at that all day
It's actually Lawrence FIshburne who says "Stop trying to hit me and hit me" in the matrix. But during some interview, the interviewer mistook Samuel L. Jackson for Lawrence Fishburne in the matrix and it really upset Samuel. That line is a clever but obscure jab in regards to that.
Best Super-Marrionette-Vision tribute movie ever made. FAB, Addie!
Never thought I’d see the day Addie would watch Team America 😂😂

Part of the fun of watching your reactions is anticipating how you will react to specific scenes. You did not disappoint. Good to see you smiling throughout.
“I like you. You have balls. I like balls.”
Addie: “Mmhmm.” Your reaction to this movie was golden 😂
This is the kind of movie that defies the viewer to suspend disbelief. Addie is right that it could only be done with puppets because puppets tell the audience right off the bat not to take anything they see seriously. It's not a kid's movie at all, but a twisted comedic romp for the grownups. Thanks for sharing.
"He's the best martial artist Detroit has to offer." 😂
Man is for sure a graduate of D.U.S.T.
Also BASEketball is another masterpiece. Idk if you realize that Trey Parker and Matt Stone do all the voices to their characters and they write all the songs and perform them as well. They also wrote an entire musical. And south park is loaded with original songs as well. All Trey and Matt.

I think the songs are the best part of Team America. Trey and Matt are brilliant songwriters.
The Bigger, Longer, & Uncut soundtrack is an absolute Classic Album.
Trey is a brilliant songwriter. Matt didn't write any of the songs. He barely writes any of the episodes actually. Trey is the creative and Matt is more the business side of the partnership.

I've heard that Matt and Trey got the idea for this movie after seeing the movie Pearl Harbor. They thought it was so bad, it would be funny to just re-enact the entire movies scene-for-scene with puppets. Then the idea evolved.
They were channel surfing, came across an episode of the old thunderbirds TV show, said, "this is $hit! We could do better!"
Then they did.
Oh, boy. Dear, sweet Addie is NOT ready for what's about to happen.
This was a gift from God!

Yay. Addy is wearing my favorite jumper
Yep. Even if it's hot in the summer. However, IMO, I think that she should've worn her plain red t-shirt. 🤔
The whole thing with Matt Damon is because Trey and Matt(the creators of the film and South park) felt the puppet for Matt Damon looked developmentally disabled. So they replaced all of the lines the Matt Damon character was going to have with him saying his own name.
It's kind of hilarious how it works despite making no sense. Matt Damon was a little annoying in the early 2000's (I didn't really buy him as an action star) so it was fun watching them take the piss out of him.
Oh no Addie's pure soul watching Team America, this should be fun

laughing as soon as I saw that she watched this... OMG!!
Great reaction, Addie. The show that is being parodied, paid homage to, is a 60's TV series called 'Thunderbirds'. It was one of several made by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson that used marionettes as the characters, all with a sci-fi adventure theme. You can find many of the episodes of those shows on UA-cam. Do not worry, the original shows are all geared for young and family audiences, unlike 'Team America'. 😆
Thunderbirds are go !!!!!! Thunderbird 2 was my fav!!!!
This was so fun watching with you!🤣
Addie: "Oh, so much blood!"

The fact that Matt Damon is a fan of south park but didnt understand the joke is hilarious as well as him stating that more fans come up to him saying "Matt Damon" more than any other movie quotes is great!😂😂
Uncensored version is even crazier. I think it is just a longer sex scene, but it surely takes the cake.
saw this at the cinema and its amazing... childhood was amazing. you have to remember the year and time period it came out...
Addie: "I didn't think I would ever see two puppets fight." (Me: Just wait. You're about to see two puppets do another "f" word. To my surprise, she didn't say she's never seen two puppets do the other "f" word, so maybe she has, lol. What has she been watching. 😅)
Team America is one of my favorite films. This is one that I break out and watch once a year. The film is actually a homage to the Gerry Anderson TV shows of the 1960s. Gerry Anderson and his wife Sylvia, produced several TV shows during their careers. A few of them including "Thunderbirds", "Captain Scarlet", "Stingray", "Fireball XL5", and "Supercar" were all done with puppets and filmed in "Supermarionation". A quick search on UA-cam will bring up several episodes of these shows if you care to see what the original concepts were like. I'm 65, but in 1965, when I was 6 years old, I thought "The Thunderbirds" was the best show ever. :)
Addie, you are such sweetheart and your reaction to this insanely random, hilarious movie was priceless. Thank you.
They had no intention of the having a running “Matt Damon” joke, the the puppet kept coming out of the mold looking, um…re****ed…so they just went with it.
