    I don’t have any personal experiences of “being excited” for heaven myself, but just before my grandma passed away on hospice, she told us how she was excited to see her mommy and daddy again. Like a little kid who had just been away at camp for a week. It seems like a lot of people have this eerie calm and acceptance just before it happens and it’s honestly made me feel slightly better about it.

      When my ex passed many years ago, very suddenly (aneurysm) he stopped what he was doing, looked up right as it was happening (he died in my arms) and idk what he saw, but I know it was peaceful and I am positive he saw someone he knew. Both his parents (had) already passed and one from the same thing, I found out later. That experience always helped me, even in times of unexpected trauma. Something is there. Whether our brains or something else idk...

      My mom was experiencing terrible stomach cancer and just days before she passed, she couldn't wait to die and go to heaven, Which is not something I ever heard my mom ever wanted or say but she is religious which makes sense. She believed in the afterlife in heaven, and while she was suffering through cancer which I can imagine has been a painful hell only exasperated the decision to leave even more.
      I personally not sure what will happen when we die. Maybe there is a heaven and a hell or maybe it's just a dark black void forever, or maybe there is another calming, drifting experience into the stars or some new life as a ghost/spirit, or perhaps reincarnation and return to life in another body and mind. It's scary, there is nothing certain and death in itself and the purpose of life is very mysterious. I only hope that when we die that it isn't scary or completely nothing. My currently belief for now is that when we do pass, it's all black and nothing. A permanent void of floating in nothing space to sleep forever. But I seriously hope that I am wrong on that.

      You shouldn't listen to everything in the bible, because that would be stupid. But you should also listen to some things that are said in the bible, because they are worthwhile.
      Look up the word "Lagom". That's probably the best description of how to live your life. Not too much, not too little. Such as with the left and right. We need progression, but we also need to conserve what our ancestors have granted us.

    • @Stoicsaiyan
      @Stoicsaiyan 5 місяців тому +3

      @@nicklasvevaactually the Bible believe it or not (I’m agnostic) makes a lot of sense in philosophical and even spiritual level. If you read the Old Testament the ancient Israelites didn’t believe In hell or heaven. They believed in Sheol which is Hebrew for death or grave. In the original Hebrew Bible heaven as a paradise is never mentioned hell as a place of eternal punishment isn’t either. Sheol was then later translated to “hell” and “hades” in the Greek and KJV versions same with Latin. The book of Matthew’s in the New Testament was also first written in Hebrew until luke and Paul and I think Peter also translated it into Greek due to ancient Israel being heavily influenced by Hellenists under Roman occupation after the Macedonians conquered Israel. Jesus also never taught in the concept of heaven or hell. He was a first century Jew and like a first century Jew he didn’t believe in an afterlife. He believed once you died your dead. The Jews till this day are pretty vague and nihilist when it comes to the afterlife. Jesus also never went to “hell” and preached. He was in the grave “Sheol” until god resurrected him. So according to the Bible it’s pretty accurate on the afterlife. There isn’t one. Only death. It’s not when I’m the second coming of Jesus when everyone who died even those who drowned in the sea and were mutilated by beasts will be resurrected and judged and live in “paradise” here on earth for eternity.

    As a disabled and mentally ill person who can't contribute monetarily to society or to my own family, I at least try not to add suffering to the world. I also try to make someone's day better when I have the resources and energy. Put love out into the world and do as little harm as possible. That has been my answer. I know that if I were to end my own pain, my family will suffer, which is also why I can't escape the pain. So I stay so that they can at least not have that pain in their hearts. I try to be there for others when they are hurting too.

    I've found that the concept of death was a dark cliff side we're constantly walking toward, but backward. Once taking that plunge, the light fades, and yet it's the only fall that doesn't end in a crash. It doesn't end any way. The concept, the basic understanding of falling, darkness, life, and death become inaccessible. But in that placid darkness, fear also doesn't exist, no pain, agony, no stresses from your life can follow. No registration of anything, no ability to mourn, regret, hope, or wonder.
    In the last seconds of your ability to wonder, fear, love, and imagine, you'll be freer than you ever have been.
    What's it like? Much like going to sleep. You're not concisous of the moment you finally nod off. The world becomes undetected for the briefest of moments, and you aren't dreaming. There's no guarantee you'll wake, you may not, but that doesn't scare you. You're just going to sleep.
    What's beyond life? No one knows, no one can know. Anyone who says they know only hope they do, only hope it's true. It's a sleep, and perhaps, perchance, there are dreams to be had that are more than our material universe.
    The one thing we know, or can say for certain, that happens when we die is...the ones who love us...will miss us.

    • @Freak80MC
      @Freak80MC 4 місяці тому +2

      This is a great comment. Reminds me of the quote from Jacob's Ladder: "But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth"
      Also weirdly enough sometimes I do actually get scared right before sleep. Knowing I can't experience that transition into sleep, it's unknowable what it's like to fall asleep. How my brain probably has to do a bunch of complicated things to be able to get into sleep mode and then wake me up after a few hours. What if it fails? What if something goes wrong? But it never does, I always wake back up. It's kinda terrifying in a way, an unknowable experience that my life depends on.
      Yet I look forward to this rejuvenation every night. Maybe that's also what death is like. A rejuvenation and freedom from life.

      I See death in a different way, but I still agree with you. How I see death is, everything we feel, see.. everything, is just chemical reactions in our brain reacting to make us feel emotions. There’s things in our body that make us alive. We are like animals biologically. When you die, those stop. Without those chemical reactions, you can’t think. I think death is just the absence of everything, your body is disconnected and everything goes blank. When a bug dies, the same thing happens. You don’t question where the bug goes when it’s dead, it’s just gone. You can’t think with the lack of a body and brain. I think this is comforting to me, even though it is the end, because with even with the lack of sense, the lack of everything after death, it doesn’t mean you can’t lead a meaningful life. It doesn’t mean you can’t change. It’s comforting because.. even when you’re gone you can still rest. Even with the lack of everything, there is peace.

After an infinite amount of time all the atoms that you were made out off and of everything that ever was there have to at some point get back together, even if that moment will happen after an infinite amount of time. And since you can't experience not existing it's kinda lika a cut out section where you instantly get back to the existence again. Idk maybe that's not how it works but this idea is kinda comforting to me lol

    I think this is a testament to how far astray organized religion has gone. I have recently rediscovered religion, and I agree with the moral of this story, but I also feel like that is the true message of Christ. The goal is to seek not just any kingdom, but the heavenly kingdom, and to make life here on Earth as it is in heaven. The moral is that through love, we can participate in the heavenly kingdom. It's not "behave so you go to heaven when you die", it's if we all could learn to love our neighbors and existence itself, then we would be in paradise.

    I’m still a Christian but I broke away from organized religion for a variety reasons. The biggest two being: I was constantly asked to give money to pastors with the promises that I would be blessed with more money. That never happened. The second reason being that a Christian organization refused to give me a job because I was Baptist instead of Catholic. While I still love The Lord, I don’t go to Church, listen to pastors preach something I’ve already read cover to cover and I no longer give my money to charities since I know it isn’t going where it’s supposed to go. I follow a more natural, in touch with the Earth, spiritual path as I believe God created us to love and be free.

      I’ve heard False Preacher but not Prosperity Preacher. I specifically remember this one I use to watch: Rob Parsley, he couldn’t get through literally one minute of his sermon without asking the viewers to donate thousands of dollars to his church. He was the worst in my opinion. At least the other pastors typically say: “Give what you can.” He would ask for insane amounts of money in exchange for blessings that never came or some dollar store trinket that he claimed was holy.

    I don't usually write YT comments anymore since I tend to turn off my brain in this site haha, but this video does the opposite of that. It's kind of a creepy coincidence that you just happened to upload about this topic during a period of my life in which existential crises plague me daily, and I actually avoided this video until I was more mentally put together. About my thoughts on heaven, it was actually the opposite of yours, where instead of getting excited over the concept of eternal paradise, I dreaded it. I remember this was one of the early reasons to why I started distancing myself from religion, because for some reason child me disliked the concept of living forever. Whenever it be burning in hell or celebrating in the skies, it seemed exhausting. Even now I guess it's created a rift for my feelings on death, because on one hand I am comforted that one day I will be set free of everything, like a dreamless slumber, but on the other hand I am pretty bummed out that everything I've accomplished will eventually be forgotten.

I was around 5 and all I cared because I was 5 was my cat and my favorite TV shows. So I asked will my cat be in heaven? No. I can I watch my favorite TV show in heaven? No. I was terrified of it for years. And anything to do with the world ending (which is basically what the rapture is) absolutely petrified me. I was convinced there was no afterlife and no God because I thought I knew enough about the universe and as a species we had outgrown religion. I later realized that the only reason I believed that was because of how little I knew about the bible. I believed what the world had told me that science and the bible could not coexist which is far from the truth. When I started to read the bible I was suprised to find out that everything we know about the world doesnt contradict anything the bible tells us. My biggest realization was that it takes much more faith to believe there is no creator. I used to have trouble sleeping I was only sleeping like 3 to 5 hours a day, constantly anxious, and stressed out all the time. My life has improved 100% by accepting Jesus and if anyone has the same issue I encourage you to look for the truth yourself. If you look for it with an honest heart you will find it!

    Once in the army I asked our priest about the possibility of no heaven or hell after death, what if there is nothing. He then told me that is probably what awaits us. I was speechless. He then told me that hell is living a life knowing it will end and that nothing will matter in the end. Heaven is enjoying life knowing it won't last eternally.

Sometime we're all dealt with bad cards and our first instinct is to hate back at the world for it but it doesn't always have to be this way. I believe that people can learn to put their indifferent aside and learn to make peace with our demons, I believe there are plenty of good, caring people but we never see them behind all the negativity. However deep down as childish as it sounds. I hope that someday someone can reunited those people into one collaborative community against the negativity in the world. That someday. I do like your thinking tho, that caring about someone is a reward, though sometimes its hard to believe that given that sometimes the people you care about "kinda disappear" too. But thats a different topic in its own.

I remember learning about heaven and finding it both a pretty idea but utterly horrifying. I didn't know why it distressed me so much, and while I have ideas about it now, I don't know if I'm applying my current state on my younger self or whether I found the idea of selective reward for a life lived uncomfortable even then.

Now for me the idea of dying is terrifying, because since it was never taught to me how good heaven was, i now only believe there is nothing after death, and the idea or a paradise is too good to be true and im scared of just dissapearing into nothingness.

I miss her a ton same with my father they shaped me to be who I am today and it’s been nearly 7 years for my dad and 5 for my mother without them and it still seems hard to not wanna just drop the ball on everything and lose it ya know I’m almost 25 now and I’m celebrating 7 years without my father on the 30th of this month its hard to think about for real I remember the first person I told about it all wasn’t sympathetic at all, he was just a dickhead about it and it kinda had me put up this wall from it all and I held those feelings back too long and now learning how to cope has me thriving with the emotions.
