It can’t be lost Chris Simms was a qb who in a lot of ways came up short as to what was probably expected out of him.
So that being said, a lot of people in his position would have a jealous bias with QBs but Simms does not. He deserves a lot of credit

He has been the best at evaluating qbs by far. Was very high on my boy herbert while others were calling him a bust.

Big facts
I’ve got an easy question to figure out who to take. Would Ohio State have been better with Mac Jones? I firmly believe that fields and Wilson are better than Jones. I see game manager all over Mac Jones.
I like the other QBs slightly more but I think mac jones will mesh better with the team and coaching staff
I think any QB who goes to Ohio State suffers b/c of the Ryan Day (Chip Kelly) system. The WRs pick the route (no NFL route concepts, doesn't train you to do fast progressions). They don't make the calls at the line of scrimmage (look to the sideline, doesn't train you to read d's pre-snap ). Fields is the only one worthy of #3 overall though. Lance too few reps. Jones doesn't have the physical tools. Only problem is the basics of Kyle's offense is timing based; where quick decisions and understanding where to go with the ball are priorities #1 & #2. With Jones, the film says that that is his strength. With Fields/Lance you're projecting. On the flip, Jones will never have the running ability the other two have.
It all has to do with what the coach wants as well. The niners coach will buy in on a QB and thus make him successful.
Trey Wingo sucks. Also, I bet in a year’s time Chris will be dubbed the official authority on QB evaluation. I’m tired of media people like Cowherd evaluating qbs without watching film or even knowing what they are looking for. Not saying Chris is 100%, but he is far and away the best evaluator in the media

Chris Simms, I love your stuff. You look at things as they are and don't get sucked into the nonsense of things. Props for holding your ground on Wilson. I would argue he may be the best QB to ever be NFL ready and ready to be a superstar right now. His skills are special and you are on the money here.
I love how everyone craps on the possibility of Mac Jones to San Fran, as if the mainstream media rankings hold any weight. Who cares about where he's ranked/mocked by analysts? The only thing that matters is the opinion of Shanahan and Lynch. If they like him at 3, they'll take him. Everyone saying he would've been there at 12, based on what? NFL GMs don't care about mock drafts. People always get so mad whenever the non-chalk possibility gets talked about for some reason.

Go compare Mac Jones and Nick Mullens size, athleticism & college career(taking into account what jones had around him)
They are way to similar in so many ways for me to take Jones seriously at the NFL level.

As a niners fan, I’m excited about the opportunity to get a new qb, I’d like Zach but my only problem is we gave up so much and we don’t even know if the guy we want will be available at the third pick. It would make more sense if it was the first or second pick.

When it comes to QB's I'm sorry but I am going to listen to Chris Simms over Bucky Brooks and I will listen to my puppy before I listen to Trey Wingo.
I see the quarterbacks in this draft and I've been doing this a long time coaching for 25 years I see it just like Chris Sims does and I give him props for stating and standing behind things that he says. It's like everybody in the media and mostly media is drinking the Kool-Aid and they have very short memories. Matt Jones and Zach Wilson in my opinion should have the best, I'll say careers out of everybody drafted this year. I also want to add that I firmly believe that there could be five or six starters at the quarterback position in this draft at different and varying degrees of success, but starters nonetheless.
I wonder when Chris Simms will get his chance at being a GM. I honestly think he has the goods to be a good one. IMO but what do I know right? Lol just saying this guy is on point more then not. If I had a good friend doing mock drafts on TV, i would love it if he could create a smoke screen for me. Sims stammering speech when asked about Z Wilson and the fact that he hasn't really talked about him being a potential prospect until asked. Also, on his QB rankings video he did mention that Mac Jones and Wilson had the natural motion type throws.

No, if anything Sims tends to get himself in trouble he says what he feels and that's why I do like him I can't stand any of the rest of them media but no he sees it the way I do. I've coached for 25 years and still do quarterbacks at all levels except the NFL and I'm telling you Mac Jones and I know it halfway through this past season and Zack Wilson I didn't realize till the end of the season on him are the best two quarterbacks other than Trevor Lawrence and it's like a group of three but I wouldn't I wouldn't draft any quarterback first other than Zach Wilson that's just me and then Mark Jones and then Trevor Lawrence. There are other reasons and factors I won't go into

Sarkisian's offense is famn near a mirror of what Shannahan does. Mac is prepared to run that offense day 1, he'll just have to adjust to the speed of the game a bit, but I think it would be a perfect fit. Debo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk are the type of receivers that fit that scheme perfect imo as well.
Only thing is shanny's offense has a lot of movement and PA roll outs. Mac throwing off balance is gross and he rarely turns his back to the defense and moves like the scheme calls for.
Say what you want about Jimmy but pre ACL dude was very good at off platform and putting his back to the defense. Watch that Jacksonville game in 17' I believe it was.

Simms reasoning for why the Niners will take Jones goes right out the window once Kyle told the media that Jimmy is their starter come week 1. He's right, Jones is ready to start immediately which is why he is not the pick. If they were planning on drafting Jones they would trade Jimmy. But them calling Jimmy immediately after the trade telling him that he is still very much in their plans tells me they are drafting a guy they know will need a year of seasoning. That screams Tray Lance but could also mean Fields.

Chris is the best I have seen, evaluating players , he actually has spoken about being a front office personnel guy, I wonder if his incredible analysis is going to hurt his chances of being a NFL evaluator.

The good mobile qbs just about always lose to the good d lines with 2 good edge rushers. It’s one of the reasons there’s an even higher premium on edge guys these days.

It's easy to look good when your team is stacked at every position, when they're head and shoulders above other teams. It would be interesting if Mac Jones played for another team how good he would be, also how will his transition look when his weapons aren't that elite.

Wilson has been the target for awhile now and when they visited his top wr that told me exactly that they were seriously going for him cause they didnt visit his wr for the wr it was to find out morre about zach. I think hes pulling an eli and told nyj he doesnt want to play or will tell them he doesnt want to play fgor them. Zach, his family and coaches all want the 49ers so i think he told his agent that and his agent told the niners hes your if you get into the top 3. Zach cant tell 11 teams he wont play for them but now its just one. hes been mentioning the niners since they went to seee him at Boise, I think we told him we want to come get him.

I also watched Boisie State, USC and Tennessee games and I see one important thing missing, the deep ball. Wilson's game is predicated in the short and intermediate routes. His deep balls fall short when Wilson attempts it. And he does struggle with stronger and more talented defenses and Wilson seems unsure when initial read is gone. Interceptions are left on the field especially by the likes of Houston and Boisie State.

But, Simms point that Jones is the most ready is true I think, and unless they want to keep Jimmy G and have him mentor fields or lance I don’t see them drafting a guy that can’t make NFL reads right now. Fields was in a very qb friendly college offense and lance was able to just hand the ball off 25-30 times and then hit a play fake bomb a few times a game. Jones is the only one left with a NFL style offense and that’s ready to go

Mac Jones running Shannahan's offense just makes sense to me. That offense philosophy is exactly what Sarkisian was doing at Bama. 2020 Bama looked like the 2016 Atlanta Falcons. I get people are down in Mac because of the talent around him, but at the end of the day, he had to deliver the ball, he had to read defenses, he had to go through progressions. Tua had more talent around him than Mac had and didn't produce near as well as Mac. Tua had Juedy, Ruggs, Waddle, Smith, Najee.. Mac had Smith, Najee, and Metchie, and had the best QBR in the history of the metric. I think teams are higher on Mac than they're leading on, and I think the 9ers knew that.
Exactly let’s criticize him for having talented players around him. Imagine him not producing if he had all this talent & didn’t win.
If you think about it. Kyle Shanahan has to face Wilson and Murray twice a year. He sees their ability to extend plays and avoid sacks, and got beat in the SB by Mahomes who made the 49er defense look stupid. I think that Shanahan has probably changed or modified what he wants in his QB to be more in line with an RG3 than a Matt Ryan.
No. Final 4 QBs this year were Mahomes, Brady, Rodgers, Allen. Only Mahomes is super mobile. Brady is a terrible runner and has won 7 Super Bowls. Last 10 teams to win the Super Bowl, only 2 have mobile QBs: Mahomes and Wilson, who won their games mostly with their throwing

Mac Jones may be the best QB in the draft. He's the best processor, the best pure passer, the best rated deep passer, etc.
I don't think Mac Jones ever been hit before, and if he get hit by NFL defenders I don't know how he will react. Justin Field, we know can thrive by getting hit. He got a broken rib and still score 6 TD to whoop Clemson. Fields is tough and after what keep happening to Jimmy G that's what the Niners need right now. A QB who can take hits.
He also looks lost at certain points if you look at the film. That’s why you see some pretty viscous hits on him because he has no awareness at all

The price isn't too high if they get it right and land a franchise QB that can run Kyle's offense. They believe that moving up from 12 is necessary now because they don't plan on drafting that early anytime soon. I respect the balls it took to pull the trigger, but it better work out.

Start Jimmy...with Mac Jones as the back up...it's a win win...we need a reliable backup QB...I don't see how having 2 good QB is a bad thing...You will always have a backup if the other one goes down..
Fields can be a bit stubborn and I say that by referring to what's in his play, and that never say die go down with the ship chip on the shoulder doesn't translate sometimes to the quarterback position. I noticed something at the elite 11 camp that totally turn me off of that player and it was body language and it was other things but he's going to be great but he wouldn't be the guy I'd want to coach as a quarterback coach.

I know I'm adding a lot of comments but I'm charged up about this draft and it's because of the deep talent at the quarterback position and I like fields but there are certain things about the player that I noticed at the elite 11, again I tend to focus on things other than the physical play and there were things I didn't care for that's all I'll say. I've noticed several things that I wouldn't want to have to hurdle with fields, as a coach that's all. Physically and talent wise it's all there but it takes more than just that.
I'm actually going to somewhat specify what I'm talking about with Justin fields. Some players give it their all and lead for the team concept and it's all about what's best for the team, but with some players, they tend to put their team in precarious positions because they themselves, the player want to shine, and some coaches will see that as selfish, especially if it's not a fixable situation. I've had players like that and I did replace them with players who followed the script and played efficiently and without risk. The chip on the shoulder term is great for some players, but I don't want my quarterback having too big of a chip on their shoulder. Maybe you can read between the lines

I see Atlanta staying put and taking Fields or Lance to sit behind Ryan for a year or two. That said, if a team like Carolina sends over an enticing package, Atlanta will be temped to wait until next season. The only problem is there's no guarantee they'll be in a position to take a QB at a spot like this again next year without packaging those picks to move back up.
So my guess is Atlanta stays put, and if there's gonna be a trade it's someone swooping into Cincinnati or Detroit's spot to grab Fields or Lance.

Based on previous draft history its almost guaranteed that at least 2 of the 5 quarterbacks being discussed won't be any good in the NFL but 99% of all the media attention is on them, its ridiculous. 2 Quarterbacks taken in the first round in the last 14 drafts have won a SB, its still a crapshoot...

The pick needs to be Justin Fields, No one throws a future away to draft a guy with DUIs and a beer belly. It's not Mac Jones, and Mac has only thrown 500 throws, he isn't ready either. The league has changed.

Why? He explained why. Zone corners aren't highly valued. Why is Richard Sherman still a UFA? Career zone corner, no man-to-man ability. It makes sense that NFL teams value cover corners more than zone corners. Maybe Newsome has the skills to play man-to-man but just needs to be in the right setting?

The biggest reason I think the Mac Jones to SF rumor has some validity is because Shanahan wanted Kirk Cousins when he hit free agency and Mac Jones plays very similarly to Cousins. They're both accurate passers who throw well with anticipation but can go down field if needed.

I also think the old boy standard of both coach/media has people afraid, for lack of a better term, to speak about some players. In other words, I could see a scenario where coaches and scouts are talking about quarterbacks and somebody might feel that Kellen Mond is going to have a better career than possibly even fields but is afraid to say it, for fear of being chastised. So, I'll say it now I firmly believe that Kellen Mond is going to have a better career then several other quarterbacks possibly Justin fields. I've written this before, and I am long-winded about things I believe in, but that is a coaching trait, and I study everything including their interviews their faces their body language Kellen maund has an IT factor.

Lance or Fields.....Mac Jones just a smoke...no teams reveal their true intention until Goddell announces the pick...of course all this hype create stories for networks to talk about...so everyone is entitled to their opinions. Niners already tried pocket QBs(Jimmy, Beathard, Mullens, Hoyer)....they need to take a chance on a more mobile QB.
