I went back and watched every single Kellen Mond throw much like Simms and I gotta tell u he’s spot on! Outside of the LSU game he was really good, not great, but the potential is there. He has a robotic style delivery but that can be fixed or adjusted with the right coaching. I think once he takes a deep dive in his tape he’ll see that he’s a superior athlete and can loosen up a little. Definitely will take a couple years to develop.
I love how he actually breaks down the reasons for his rankings. You can see the passion behind it.

When Chris Simms says watch out for this player, you better at least take a look. His prior takes have been great. Remember how Kiper, Daniel Jeremiah and others were stuck on Rosen/Darnold, who said watch out for Lamar & Josh Allen? Simms has consistently picked the better QBs every draft except a couple. Simms spoke about Mahomes well before anybody was on that train. Just FYI.
He also had Herbert over Tua.
I agree, Chris Sims is one of the better sports analysts out there.
@@billbuyers8683 I tell people all the time, if you want the grades of medium to very good players then use PFF. But they are useless when it comes to evaluating qbs. Go with Simms every time on qbs.
Simms had Mahomes 3rd on his 2017 board, behind Watson and Trubisky, and he ended up being the 2nd QB drafted, so in what way was he ahead of everyone on Mahomes?

Simms also preferred Josh Allen when the whole scouting community was going gaga over Darnold and Rosen.
Im a USC fan bro. I knew both Rosen and Darnold were mediocre period. I thought Rosen was trash at UCLA. But somehow every year these gms are either smoking dope or just blind.
Darnold was maybe the better prospect in the sense that he had more production in college, but GMs don't draft players for what they did in the past but for what they are projected to be at the next level.
And I love how Jets fans always say "Allen is only good because he plays for the Bills." The Bills? The team that has been the laughingstock of the NFL the last 20 years. The Bills are good because of Allen.
And the dude is an insanely hard worker who gives it 110% both on the field and during the off-season to improve his mechanics, he hasn't been given anything. The people who bash Allen are almost invariably those who don't actually watch him play outside of the couple of primetime games the Bills get every year.
@@michaelconnor3560 As a Bills fan, I can tell you that 95% of the fanbase was on their knees praying "Rosen, not Allen, Rosen, not Allen" during the 2018 draft and boy, were we wrong.
Allen has done his part to make us relevant but completely overhauling the front office and coaching staff the year prior also helped.

His criticism of Fields is so on the money. He has the highest risk of any QB in this class. There’s no way I’m taking him inside the top 10 above most of the other guys on this list.

@@Void11207 No, the tape shows he has top notch mental acumen and can run most systems. Even I saw Joe Burrow when I looked. It was clear Alabama used Mac like a traditional QB while they used Tua like someone they didn't trust. Look at Tua's passes. Rarely ever threw guys open, couldn't read the blitz and used a lot of gadget play type stuff while he was there. I'd say 3 QBs are going to be the new wave once Brady hangs it up and it appears to be Wilson, Lawrence and Jones. I want to see what Simms sees in Mond but time will tell on that one. I think Fields and Lance bust in the NFL.
When it comes to college QBs, Chris Simms has done a great job in recent years determining which ones will play the best in the NFL. I’ll definitely defer to his judgment this upcoming draft.

Paul Burmeister interviewing Simms. Googled Burmeister, and no surprise that he was a starting QB at Iowa and had a short FA stint in the NFL. Good to hear guys who played the QB position talk about the QBs in the 21 draft.

This is certainly out there, but I will credit Simms in that his favorite QB's in 2018 were Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.
Quite a few ppl were high on allen tho.

As a Jets fan, I’ve been thinking about the possibility of the Jags taking Wilson, but it’s kind of struck me that it would be insanely difficult for them to do so. Wilson might be able to win them a championship or two, but Lawrence gives them a chance to become the region’s most popular franchise after an entire existence of being an afterthought

Its actually his draft breakdowns in 2018 where he had some in agreement with me that weren't popular. Every year he nails the unpopular opinions I agree with. I been a draft junkie myself since 90. Nowadays EVERY guy with equipment is a draft guru with a channel. Some are actually pretty good as well. So to me Chris is the voice of the common folk who will never have a chance to make a mark in the NFL but he keeps us going cuz its great to have a voice to speak on our behalf when our top 5-10 don't match the same generic answers.
I'm not a QB guru but as soon as I watched Zach Wilson's tape I wanted him MORE than any other QB in this draft. I'm just bummed that there's no way the Falcons can get him.
Which qb do you see as the best leader of men at the next level, and in college?
Man, I wish we could get Chris to evaluate a couple of the lesser-known QBs in this draft like Newman, Ehlinger, Costello, and Book. These guys are not Day 1 picks, but I would love an in-depth analysis of these other guys.

Just feels like over the past few years Simms has really upended the calculus on the draft.He's making the everyday fan far more knowledegable about who the better players are, and I think he's starting to put pressure on front offices who have not been good at draft evaluation by doing business as usual. He's going to end up in someone's front office -- hopefully the Niners',
Considering the niners were just in the 2019 Super Bowl then got devastated with injuries I’d say there ok.

Simms definitely takes a liking to QBs that can throw off-platform or when the play breaks down. It's why he loves Mahomes/Rodgers whilst finding ways to downplay Brady's greatness (which is beyond absurd btw). But I love Zach Wilson too, he does all the things required of a modern QB. He's kinda like a smaller, more compact but far more accurate version of Justin Herbert, and we've seen just how good Justin Herbert is in the NFL. Having a laser for an arm, being able to move outside the pocket and improvise off-script is so important and he does that better than any QB in this class. Would be the #1 pick in any other draft class.
2018 Justin Herbert was a beast, dude threw nothing but dimes.

Then played in the NFL, starting at QB for John Gruden. He then worked at Bleacher Report. Then got his current role at NBC and ProFootball Talk. That’s his resume and experience knowing what it takes to be an NFL QB.

After the Lamar analysis I will only ever trust Simms analysis. Also Kellen Mond is RAW. Not entirely surprised somebody as diligent as Simms noticed.
Simms rankings aren't necessarily how good they are now, but how good of a "prospect" so if they can get good, he gives them a better rank, side note, I think he was right about Daniel Jones, dude is trash

The packers agreed with Chris Simms on Jordan Love, he was right about Justin Herbert, Tua, and Josh Allen (Justin and Josh being better than most thought and Tua not as good) as of right now (May 2021). Belichick agrees with Simms on Mac Jones. As a Vikes's fan I hope he is right about Kellen Mond. Chris is a great qb evaluator. Thinking someone like Mel Kiper gets paid to promote other QB's and not his honest evaluation. According to Chris, the Vikes got the best value with Kellen Mond.
Zach Wilson will shine in any situation that's remotely functional. Great mind for the game.
