I dislike ships on stands and the diorama's are bad because the ocean looks fake. This maker has made a diorama that looks so real you would think this a 3-d model from a real photo. Excellent! And the best thing is, you have got the wave propagation correct. Most warships are slim hulled, that is to say a block coefficient of around 0.5 -0.6 and at high speeds the hull waves "cling" to the hull before spreading out. Sadly, time and time again, I see fantastic model dioramas of pedigree naval vessels at speed - built to perfection - in sea dioramas where the bow waves propagate like 45 degrees from the bow. Totally wrong, ruining the model. To make your presentation perfect, suggest you include a few words at the beginning on research. Find photos of the ship you are building, at sea, at speed, as basis for the wave pattern. Thanks for a great video!

If you can move the turrets to point as they were when firing on Prinz Eugen, that'd be even better. However, my heart did sink a bit when I saw you snap off the screws and shafts. I wondered if there was a way you could undercut the foam to accept them and insert the ship stern first and lever down the bow. But when I saw you fill in the foam around the edges it all made sense.

Are there any reasons to use gesso, not white paint? Actually, I have tried drawing white form with acrylic white paint some times but it quit difficult to draw very thin contour of the form like you. I will of course practice more hard and hard to make the technique my own, but would be grateful if you could advise the reasons using gesso.

There are two things that I wish for you to explain please? When you recreate the bow wave, should it not climb up the knife end of the bow thus making an impression of the water falling away from the front of the ship? Remember, this ship is displacing a massive 44000 tonnage of salt water starting at the knife edge of the bow? What are your thoughts? Even a rowboat will cause the water level to in crease in hight as it pushes forward. There is such mass resistance to break over one. The tension that speaks to the movement is equal and requires an opposite of equal then or greater force to move in any direction. To finish with my observation, when you see video of a fleet operating in formation, the bow waves differ from ship to ship by the tonne displacement of each individual ship, the largest, most violent at the largest ship ie: an aircraft carrier. Hull movement through the oceans have been vastly improved as to the ships hull braking of the surface tension which leads to the streamlining of the wake ( the sound wave being cancelled) by way of starting the sign wave ahead of the ship and not at the bow knife. It is known that a wave will leave the ships side at a 35D angle that will follow a the sides from the knife edge to the full width of the hull as the ship displaces the water around the hull up to the curving inward toward the rear of the stern. At this point we have to take into consideration the screws that are causing the movement of the ship. Hull technology has been drastically improved, and yet we find tremendous amount of water being thrashed in all directions, remember that the screws cause a rotating fluid force. I bring this to your attention as I believe that your interpretation of the stern wake. I would think that it is to narrow should be as broad as the total width of the stern and should be higher more violent then what your stern wake for the Hood is. The hull design is of a battle ship was laid down in 1912 and hasn’t changed other than the torpedo blisters added since her launching. Thank you for considering my observation and would ask you to reply as I’m fascinated in watching your skills producing these visions of art. Since my youth, I have always wanted to create 3D art diorama for my model ships but failed. I pity everyone who would call the accurate scale modelling of anything that man had created a toy. Keep up and finding better materials to be used but remind you to continue to teach your craft to others. Thank you for your visions. I read your professional answer well.I totally agree with you and try to make it so. As you know, I also watch a lot of actual photos and videos. In my opinion, the most important thing is speed. And the environment of the sea and the angle of the flue seem to be important factors. Therefore, it is difficult to make sea base because pitching and rolling occur in warships caused by the combination of these things. These considerations and experiences are what I felt while serving in the frigate when I served in the navy. (Korea has to serve for two years and I chose the Navy.) And when I make a waveform and draw white foam according to the actual theory, it's often not good to see. So this will not be accurate because some exaggeration and distortion have to be done. I still need more practice on this part because I am not good enough. Anyway, are you working in this field? It seems to have amazing knowledge at the professional level. Good afternoon to you: I hope you will have time for a quick visit. At any rate, I wish to continue our discussion on sea surface effects. When you served your country, why did you choose the navy as you could just as easily chose any branch? I realize that boot camp was as gruelling as our service is so once you adjusted, did your upbringing help? What I mean is, I assume that respect, discipline and ability to remain calm whenever challenged was taught you by your parents and as a child through your young adult life, it helped you to adjust to your station as a navy man? What was the hardiest thing for you to adjust to once you were assigned to your ship? I Getting back to your ability to harness the level of detail you place in each of your seascapes, have you ever consider the effects of sea grime or salt stain effects that are obvious on the lower sections of the hull as to the lessening effects, say on the upper hull sections mainly the upper works and funnel? I imagine it to be less noticeable on the bridgeworks, as you have walkways and windows and such to brake up the effects? Yet, on the funnel there would be less levels and such that would brake up the effects and thus being more noticeable or am I chasing my tail as it were? Along the lines of how the sea effects metallic objects and paint, the condition of paint that is directly in contact with the sea as opposed to the effects the sea has on the paint not directly in contact with the water? Rust is the enemy of all metallic materials and the composition of the coverings used to slow the effects the weather has o; sa6 your car. I own a cobalt SS and I have been recently told that the rockers need to be replaced. Here in Canada, for a shop to correct the damage, it will cost me between $1000.00 to $1500.00 dollars which is not in my budget as I’m retired and have only my social security and a small disability check to live off of and in today’s economy that’s not much. To return to my question, is there much distinction in this observation or any I barking up a tree ? I ask you this because the way you weather a ship is quite unique. To many modelers go nuts on the weathering which actually destroyed what otherwise they could have accomplished if they didn’t weather in the first place. I guess it wouldn’t take long to show rusting affects around the bow as the sea has a lot of objects to pound, but a rather recent example of a warship would not show significant effects, unlike say a ship of the line that had five or more years of service, surely before the first dry dock. I believe this but I have no knowledge of it. Also the effect of algae along the waterline, that’s genius. The effects below along the hull paint is crazy. Your use of colour to brake up and wear down the plants, I never even understood how to get the effects you’ve achieved, all I can say is thank you for teaching the way to tone do the colours. The reason is simple. It is very convenient because I can mix it with water without needing a thinner. And because the color comes out well.
