Your model is beautiful. I had the pleasure of walking Mikasa's decks in July of 2019. She was stripped of many of her fittings post-WW II but she was later saved and restored (fake guns and turrets) as a memorial. The light rain and the spray whipped up by the winds off the bay made me forget for a moment that she was filled with and surrounded by concrete. Nice work and thanks for the memories!
The age of the main gun died in 1942 at Midway. There after, most battleship guns were regulated to shore bombardment until missiles made those too obsolete.
I am astounded. Your water surface alone leaves me stunned. Those shell plumes are fantastic! Along with your smoke. Then let us address how awesome the Mikasa looks itself. I paused at 19:27. If that is not a contender for "best build" nothing is. You applied a lot of art to this subject. Bravo.
I want your job! That was truly amazing! It really evoked the history of the scene, the sense of movement and desperation of a sea battle like this. I had no sense of the scale until you put it onto the base and realized that whole ship was almost the size of your hand!
Fantastic.... I'm currently modelling HMS Vengeance from the Canopus class that came just before Vickers built the Formidable class and this ship for the Japanese. I am seeing a lot of detail to be added to my own 3D model.
I saw the real built model at Malaysia International Miniature Hobby Show....just few days ago...his work is amazing and also this Mikasa awarded Silver Medal...Congratz 😁🥳🥳

I used to live in Yokohama, so I've been to Yokosuka Memorial Museum Mikasa several times. There are traces of bullets in various places on the ship, and it is also written who died there. It was a smaller ship than I thought, and I was surprised to see that they often bombarded each other with such a size. My condolences to the war dead on both sides.
Well, this would be a great display model for the Mikasa. Including the nice making of video. I imagine a showcase on the Mikasa (accessible on all sides) with a monitor / tablet featuring this making of video and and a documentary about the battle itself. Would be a cool colaboration. Maybe they are interested?
Excellent made. Some historical details: they wouldn't carry boats aboard a ship in a battle. Railings, forward and rear stays and flag poles would be removed from the deck. Matresses were used as protection on the bridges.

Where the heck did you find a 1:700 scale Makasa? I've seen a 1:200 and 1:350 but my hobby shop never has the 1:700 scale version :( Pre-dreadnoughts are my favorite ship models.

Ahh, they don’t make ships like they used to. I love the sheer number of cannons. These days it’s all missiles and defensive Vulcans.
I love the fact the captain still had his private balcony at the bow. So old school, even for the time :)

These are sheets of canvas wrapped over the railings, presumably to protect from sea spray. There were and in fact still are widely used.
