Using Assets or Linked Files in Blender? Which is better? We find out!

  • I love Blender...
    I love it more and more each time something new is added. But sometimes the new thing which looks all shiny and fancy is not as good as it's previous thing. Take Asset Management. The Asset Browser is a great way to take premade elements, materials, shaders and the like and give you a place where you can grab hold of them and pull them into any scene that can see the folder.
    But is it better than the older "Link" referencing system?
    The answer is not a simple "Yes" or "No".
    Take a look at this video and see what I'm getting at.
    Oh, and at one point I think I'm talking in tongues as some sounds coming out of my mouth that made no sense. You'll see my phonetics of them on the screen when you watch.

    Great video. I need to tidy up my asset library. I find it gets very messy and unorganized quickly, especially when you bring in asset packs that have their own categories.
