Jo Jo, this was not just a good song, but a masterpiece in my opinion! One of my all time favorite songs. This was released in 1968, and Tommy is still singing it, still with a great voice! All you need now is a lava lamp and some incense, LOL!! ✌

@@aliciatargaryen She had the coolest black and silver lithograph of Jim Morrison. We didn't know who he was but we knew he was gorgeous! Which has nothing to do with this song, just that she was my COOL friend. I hope everyone had a COOL friend.

Jojo, this is before auto tune and filtered mics. It's pure vocal heaven. Yes they had mixing boards etc but they were used for vocal tracking and instrument tracking.

If you want more Tommy James and the Shondells, check out "Sweet Cherry Wine" "Crystal Blue Persuasion", "Mony Mony", or "I Think We're Alone Now". That first one, in particular, is a favorite of mine!

Fun reaction! I always wondered about the meaning of "Crimson and Clover" too. Apparently it's just something that sprang to his mind as a poetic sounding combination and he knew he wanted to use it in a song. I think the meaning is pretty much left up to our own interpretation. It seems to evoke a feeling, for sure.
"Draggin' the Line" is another Tommy James and the Shondells banger! Always puts me in a great mood.

I'm glad you're hearing one of the greatest groups of all times.Such good music made for good times that are worth remembering, like times with my mom in her car while driving around Los Angeles as a small kid and then when I was Stationed in West Germany in the 80's I had their Anthology tape and played the hell out of it riding on the trains

Tommy James & The Shondells’ 1968 smash hit “Crimson & Clover” is a song about meeting a mysterious and beautiful woman, whom you just met but you already know you can fall in love with. Quote from Tommy.

I recommend you delve more into Tommy James & the Shondells’ body of work. They were huge in the second half of the ’60s, and they deserved to be.
The band scored two No. 1 hits, “Hanky Panky” in 1966 and the song reviewed here in 1969. A funny note about the latter, it was released near the end of ’68, causing some to mishear the title as “Christmas is over.” 😄 The fact that the actual name of the song references red and green led some to still believe it was somehow Christmas-themed.
In 1987, two covers of TJ&S songs hit No. 1 back to back, “I Think We’re Alone Now” by teen pop singer Tiffany, followed by “Mony Mony” by rocker Billy Idol. The original versions hit No. 4 in 1967 and No. 3 in 1968, respectively.
