    103 DEGREES CELSIUS?? This is fucking unheard of, you could literally burn the skin of your legs with it.

      Constantine Most laptops mounting the high-powered quad-core cpus usually top at 90-99 degrees when under load (these are internal temperatures of the hardware, not external temperatures of the casing), though I had never heard of any going beyond 100, as I believe that's the maximum temperature indicated by the manufacturer.

    • @xxxxfatcatxxxx
      @xxxxfatcatxxxx 7 років тому +15

      I had a problem with my old laptop where the fan stopped working and the CPU just shuts down at 99C as to not fry it self. 103C is still unheard of. also the bottom casing is made out of aluminum so even if it's not the temperature of the exterior it will still be unbearable to put this thing on your lap at that kind of load which defeats the purpose of it being a 'lap'top.

    Couldn't agree more re: thinness. Apple's obsession with thin is starting to seem a bit like anorexia. Not healthy, especially for the one "Pro" device they're still updating from time to time.

      My late-2007 17" MBP was destroyed recently. For a replacement that meets my needs, I'm having to go back to the Unibody series (2009-2011) to even have a chance. The only alternative would be to turn a modern PC laptop into a Hackintosh - which is *hard* and still requires a working Mac of some kind as a starting point.

      1 year later and the industry still hasn’t switched to USB C. Apple made a laptop for 2040 and double the price to get inconvenienced. I’m buying a 2015 for this very reason. I need an HDMI, I need USB 3, I don’t own anything USB C. Even their own new iPhones Tennis and Tennis Max still come with USB-B cables 🙄

    Most people here don't understand the engineering that was used behind that beautiful machine...I use my wife's macbook 2016 pro and it's great... the thinnest and most stunning aluminum body... the fine craftmanship and build quality not too mention the fine details that it has and you can see that they really care about their products these days. I'm not really bothered about the ports and all that nonsense.. and the touchbar? wow it really defines and set them apart from all other laptops these days.. That is why I ask my wife to have their company provide another one, and they did... so now it's sitting right beside my wonderful i7 6700k and dual gtx1080 with 64gb of RAM as a mousepad.... it's really better on top of my Corsair MM300 extended, with my logitech on top of it... what a sight to behold... Apple really innovates and they have captured mousepad technology with a bang

    • @improver1849
      @improver1849 7 років тому

      Andy Moran Yeah, looking down where your function guys normally are does seem inconvenient. How do you feel about this bloody keyboard??
      I did a typing test in notepad, and I was surprised that my hit rate was high. Still, the keyboard felt and sounded broken. Cheap. Had to wonder why they didn't just move to an all glass OLED keyboard with haptic feedback. Hahaha. Seriously, I like the feel of the tiny Surface 4 and Samsung Book 9 Pro keyboards more. Wish I knew I how to make them into a reliable Hackintosh. In fact, perhaps this is the first gen of MBPs that'll cause me to look deeply and seriously into the Hackintosh route. At least until they refine the new MBP a bit. Personally, I hate dongles and, although it's not as common these days, I write a lot. Those two pain points need to be soothed for me, although I'm sure almost everyone would like less dongles. I also need 32gb, but it turns out that's an Intel chipset issue.

      I tried to switch to the flagship Galaxy. I went back to Iphone. The reason is that Android, while you it is more customizable, it can be jerky. It just seems quirky at times, especially when switching to phone and back to apps. Apple seems more reliable, more solid, works when I need it. It also integrates with the macbook. That's why I like Apple, their stuff just works.

      Emir Tulumcu No they haven't, they've been bendable since the iPhone 6 and didn't fix the issue until the iPhone X, which in turn gets easily scraped. They've been easily breakable and iOS 11 is getting buggier and buggier. Plus Siri is absolute shit. Android has better multitasking, a better file system, and has a digital home button not requiring gestures. And phones running them have been totally outshining the iPhone 8 and X (even without the A11 Chip they perform pretty close to it in real time).

    Just got my 13" 2017 MacBook Pro, and I'm really enjoying it. I went with the model without the touch bar. When it was first announced I found it exciting, but then realized that it doesn't really do much. Not having the touch bar actually makes it much cheaper and delivers satisfying battery life.
    Brought it to work one day and worked a full 12-hour day on documents, slides and spreadsheets, and got back home with only 1/4th the battery drained. Of course I wasn't doing media-intensive tasks, but I found that quite impressive.

    I totally agree. Apple seems to have completely lost it after 2012. The graphical designers are in charge, and Tim Cook only cares about shareholder value.
    Steve Jobs would go on stage and explain himself why he wanted the new model. Tim can't articulate user desire and has no clue and it shows.
    Tim Cook is the Steve Balmer of Apple. I don't expect anything good and coherent until he leaves, which makes me really really sad.
    I have a 2011 MBP and a 2010 Mac Pro. Both I have upgraded to machines with nearly the performance of what Apple sells today, in almost 2017 !!!
    I would expect more RAM, better batteries, a much better NVIDIA GPU and more connectors, both for the Macbook Pro and the Mac Pro, to even consider them a Pro machine.
    I am really really disappointed in the 2013-2016 Apple.

      Completely agree on everything, but you missed one major complaint - the software experience. For the last several years it has been degrading steadily almost unnoticeably (if you use macs every day). The last completely stable version of mac OS that "just works" was snow leopard. Several years ago it was unthinkable for a mac to crash if you weren't using bad wraps or something of the sort and nowadays I have to restart my computer every day / couple of days depending on the OS version. It's pathetic and it's only getting worse!
      Been a mac user since 2007, was very hesitant about buying my 2014 top of the line MBP, but I decided to give Apple one last chance. I don't regret the purchase, but a week after buying I promised myself that this is the last apple computer that I'm buying ever (or at least until Tim Cook gets replaced with someone who cares less about profit margins and more about quality and user satisfaction).

    Yep, the battery thing is one of my bigger gripes. I'm not too down on the whole machine like much of the internet seems to be, but reducing the batterys physical capacity by 25% to shave off 3.5 millimetres of height is just the epitome of modern Apple aggravation. Imagine how much more comfortable the battery life would be with the old size on the new power saving components - and at the same time, the GPU could have kept a 50W max displacement, rather than going down to 35W. That, and the price hike, which I feel pretty sure the Touchbar can't be near all of, and even if it is, just offer them without it then.

I have mine (Mid-2012) with an FuryX SSD and 1TB Disk (replaced the superdrive with a caddy), 16GB of RAM (apple says you can only have 8GBs for some reason) and i used it everyday with design programs and it works flawlessly... 9:56 you say that "cpu intensive games should do well because cpu is powerful" ...sigh... then show cities skyline at worse framerate than Gifs... at least then you say it's unplayable... at 10:26 you say exactly that Doom is playable at ~40fps

      Raimar Lunardi I don't know what you're getting at other than proving my point. I say that Cities: Skylines is unplayable in the video. It is. Which you confirm in your argument. DOOM runs at 47fps. By definition, most would agree anything over 30fps is playable. IT ISN'T GOOD. But it's playable. Which I also say in the video. So, yeah. Thanks for agreeing with me.

    Crazy about your battery life. I have the base model 15 with touch bar and I can get 8 hours of the lighter work. Even my new MacBook 13 and 13 with touch bar can get 8 hours. I wonder why yours was eating your battery so fast? Rogue app? Processes running in background eating it up?
    I also play AAA games on the base model using Windows 10 with no issues. Yes they don't run at Ultra over 60fps but a 1060 card won't do it either so I am not complaining. I own almost every new laptop out and this runs really good even considering they used an AMD processor which I am not a fan of. This is not a gaming laptop but it will work good if this is what you are using. If you want a thin, light, gaming laptop then the best right now for the money is the Asus Strix ROG GL502VS with a 1070 card.
    Thanks for the review. Love getting other peoples perspective on new products. Keep it Snazzy!

      Bernard Wong That's also over double the TDP this new MBP chassis allows, the 1060 in laptops was drawing around 80W iirc, while the Radeon Pro 460 is 35. I don't like that Apple lowered the TDP to start with, but that is what it is.

    It's like Apple is totally ignoring everything we ask for and things we want, for them to say "we made (x Apple product) thinner! Great right!?" It's like innovation for them has been diluted to, making junk thinner, no one cares about how thin a laptop is, we want power and that works well, not one that eventually disappear if you turn it sideways. T_T I honestly cannot wait to finish paying off my iPhone because the minute I do, I'll be switching to a galaxy, I'm so done with underpowered, underperforming junk.

      Is this meant to be sarcastic? Text doesn't translate sarcasm well. If so then ignore this, if not then that makes no sense because the required dongles (not only cost way too much from apple considering they are almost necessary to use the damn thing) add way more cables to the process.

    • @merc4767
      @merc4767 7 років тому +1

      Wizzy Watkins bluetooth itself is a flawed system however. Anyone who uses even the highest quality of bluetooth headphones knows there will at some point be minor data loss. In terms of storage that loss is unacceptable. Not only this but a lot of people (myself included) wouldn't dream of using wireless peripherals due to latency. EVEN MORE, disks and SD cards are wireless, so why where they removed? Sure disks are going out of fashion but having that drive is still useful and I wouldn't buy a laptop without one. They aren't rationalising their decisions with the market, instead they're making dumb changes and hurting their own profits, thats why they have to increase the laptop cost every year

    • @merc4767
      @merc4767 7 років тому

      Wizzy Watkins well that's completely useless then, what point is there to having a separate SD card slot when you have to be at the laptop to use it? The whole point of laptops is to be all in one machines so you dont need accessories for it to have its basic functions (for a professional grade laptop an SD card slot is basic) so having everything seperately is a counterproductive bs move to make more money. I have wireless storage in the cloud, I still have to be at my device to use the files.

      Intel's maximum recommended operating temperature for Skylake quad-core mobile CPUs is 100 deg C. So yes, it's certainly far too hot, and Apple really needs to fix the fan curve, but it's not so hot the CPU will fry. I agree, though. Unacceptable.

      Not really, Apple has always had incredible durability. I'm still using my 2010 macbook pro with some upgrades. I do need an upgrade now, but never would've thought it would last for 7+ years. Don't get me wrong, I'm both a Windows and apple user. I don't get all this 'fighting' over which one is better. They both have pro's and cons.
      But yeah this is the internet sadly and everyone has a voice.

      Personally I've not experienced the legendary durability people keep talking about. I've had to have my 2015 Macbook Pro replaced twice (after multiple repair attempts), thankfully covered under AppleCare. Apple themselves gave up and just gave me a top of the line 2017 refreshed Macbook Pro for free as a replacement.

    • @sjoerdvankampen484
      @sjoerdvankampen484 7 років тому

      Jason Griffin I think that's because of several things: Steve Jobs wasn't involved any more, there's no upgradability any more which kind of made the pro consumer feel a bit betrayed and lot's of people have different experiences anyways. It's been kind of going downhill since Steve Jobs died. But I wouldn't know personally about your MacBook version, I still have the 2010 one.

    Two thing that don't make sense you didn't mention:
    1. Magsafe, why would they get rid of magsafe. Its just better han USB-C, has saved my computer like a hundred times.
    2. If they want to promote this universal cable for everything, why is the iPhone using the Lighting port?

    Watching this 6 years later on my 2016 MacBook Pro. This computer was a gift and my first laptop since my 2004 MacBook Pro died in 2015, so I thought the bugs were standard-issue for new Apple products. Boy howdy do I wish I'd followed this channel back then because I would've immediately returned this thing, or maybe at least caught the hardware recall Apple silently rolled out a year later. Luckily, my touchbar doesn't freeze anymore since updating the OS a couple times, but I'm still waiting a good 10 seconds every time I type more than 2 wps for them to pop up. And, of course, I've got third-party software controlling the fans, running them at full blast 100% of the time.
    Can't wait 'til I can afford one of the new M1s and ditch this piece forever.

Honestly, I think the best aspect about this is that it's a review that isn't about assessing the MacBook Pro as a laptop in an overall ecosystem; it's about your specific experience with the MacBook Pro, how it fits (or doesn't) to your workflow and use case, and your sharing of your findings to others.

    I've bought the 2016 13" macbook pro without touchbar precisely because the touchbar models were still too expensive and full of flaws. I was going to buy a 2015 13", but with cyber week deals I found that I could get the 2016 non touchbar model for only $100 more, which seemed fair for a better screen, better speakers, better ssd speeds, better keyboard IMO, better resale value and same to better performance compared to the 2015 model (according to various benchmarks I found). The non touchbar model seemed like a better choice for 3 reason:
    1. Price: it was the only one with a somewhat reasonable pricing (with the cyber week deal)
    2. Battery: it had a bigger battery than the 13" touchbar model, which combined with the lack of the touchbar, made for good battery life.
    3. Less risky: the touchbar still has to prove to be a useful feature, and in getting there might still need hardware improvements in future generations.
    So, since I did needed a Mac (iOS development), do you think I made a good call????

      Nobody "needs" a mac. Everything you can do on a mac can be achieved with much the same ease, better graphics and more power if you just buy a PC at half the cost. My PC cost me £600, built it myself, It is so much more powerful and I bought it nearly 2 years ago. If you really want the small form factor laptops then buy a premium windows PC.

      Hackintosh are a pain man. Best to invest a little more money (for this particular case it wasn't really too much of a ludicrous price) in a machine that runs Mac OS without issues, than investing (better said: wasting) time tuning things all the time for Mac OS to run smoothly. But hey man, that's just my opinion. If you prefer PCs, that's great too.

    You don’t have to actually hit the escape key. The touch recognition actually goes a little left than the left edge of the touch bar screen. So you can pretty much hit the escape key like you used to, just hit the top left corner of the keyboard. It’s super intuitive.

      I bought the 2012 MacBook Pro from my friend for around ($600), fit in a 250 GB SSD and an extra 4GB ram, getting around 5 hours of battery on youtube + safari ( it’s at 1400 cycles). Personally I like the trackpad which is just about the right size, and very very responsive unlike most mid range Windows laptops. Only downside is that there’s only 2 USB ports.. I need 3 so I’m forced to buy a dongle lmao. I thought I wouldn’t be using the DVD drive, but my college library has plenty of movies XD. I don’t see why would anyone need a thinner laptop than the 2012 Mac at the cost of reparability and battery life.
