I just recently got one of these. I replaced the HDD with a 2TB SSD and maxed the ram out to 16GB. It's still a champ at a lot of things.

    • @jensharbers6702

@@Scorpiove I got one of those too. SSD (nothing Fancy, 240Gb), 8 Gigs of RAM and that thing performs well and It has still a good battery, so it lasts.
Using it alot of times, my desktop is now only on when I need to do heavier lifting stuff or just want the bigger screen.
It is not the fastest thing in the world, but the most usable MacBook Pro when you do a lot of random stuff. ^^

    • @Scorpiove

@@jensharbers6702 you hit it on the nail when you said random. I've thrown lots of random things at this machine and it handled most of them well.
It's great at retro gaming, it's good at old games even Arkham city got decent fps. It plays many new games as well that are less demanding like Gris. I have Mac OS 8.1 and 9 installed on emulators for fun.
At first I got it just because I missed Mac OS X, (I had a PPC mac mini back in the day, then went to Linux and then Linux and Windows 10). But its proven to be the machine that could. So yeah now I have my main desktop that has Linux/Windows 10 and this laptop with OS X. Kind of like a dual monitor setup but with two machines.

Yeah, I',m happy with mine. (2.9 Ghz, i7). I put two 500 GB SSDs, and 16GB Ram. I use it mostly for audio. It's pretty stable and rarely complains about anything. I guess it has lots of features some people are begging to have back in the newer models.

Evan Chappell No, just using it to store my archives apart from the system drive. I know it would be faster as a raid, but it suits my needs that way.

trickb0x this is exactly what I was going to say. They had the 2016 MB pros when I went to go buy one & I was not at all was seeing how getting a shitty keyboard + no ports + more money was a better deal. I’m glad I went with my gut. I would’ve regretted it deeply.

Man, I felt so proud seeing the mid-2012 13" Unibody. It was my first ever Macbook and I earned like crazy for it, but come my 16th birthday, my parents actually bought me one.
It's turning eight years old this year, and yes, I still use it till this very day. This thing saw me scroll through Tumblr with photos and videos that was unconsciously forming my interest in Multimedia Arts into eventually having a career in one (am currently an Art Director).
If this Macbook can talk, it's the best thing to tell my growth as an artist and creative.
I did have a small upgrade in 2015 with a 21" iMac but I never left my Macbook Pro. They work in conjunction.
But I have really beat the crap out of it and it's definitely served me well. I just ordered my the 16-inch MBP last month and will hopefully arrive sometimes this month. You bet I'll pay homage to my 13-inch, only seems fitting. Haha!

I have 2 of the 2015 MacBook Pro's and they are still going strong and never miss a beat. Incredible in so many ways they are like battle tanks. Sadly I did also buy the first of the touch bar era MacBookPro's and the logicboard failed in a year, the screen failed within another 3. The battery life was rotten and overall it's the worst laptop I have had ever owned. That bad experience turned me off Apple forever because I could see it was all of a sudden about cutting corners and removing really good features.

been on Mac laptops since the Pismo in ...eh...2000? (loved it) Then had that clamshell turquoise plastic thingy, Then onto my first MacBook Pro BEFORE the unibody (that one lasted me a while at least, I just remember it was bought used and was dependable and refused to die) Then bought the 2011 MacBook Pro in the same way (bought it only lightly used at maybe 18 months old)...BUT it was that 2011 that you voted as worst I think, (I lucked out to have apple replace that crashed graphics/motherboard for FREE...TWICE. They knew it was BAD) and since the third crash (and while being a YTer) a good friend gave me his abandoned 2016 13 inch for free, BUT once again...lol... that was the year that also ranked on your 'worst' list. So NOW I feel very grateful to be moving on (tomorrow!) to buy what I expect to be a more blessed Mac 'portable computer'designedBc ...had this new model not been shiny with promising change on the horizon, I was about to jump apples' ship. Looking forward to having the kind of dependability in a machine, that I've (for some reason) long associated with the company (even when they weren't delivering it)..esthetictechnologicaldevises has worked against performance. If you are used to your 13“ dont upgrade to a larger model. Believe me, carrying it around is double as hard, its extremely big tbh and pretty heavy too. Once you‘re used to 13“ i find it almost impossible to get used to a larger Macbook

I can’t wait to see what kind of best MacBook shows we’re going to get at the end of this decade with everything that happened in 2020. And what is yet to come. It’s going to be amazing

Still going strong with my 2015 15 inch Macbook Pro. I literally just replaced the battery 2 weeks ago and it's Thanksgiving of 2023. I carried this around the world with me (literally) for 14 months on a sabbatical where I shot and edited 4k travel vlogs almost daily. I've also ediited loads of 4k Canon Log video files on it for years. I've been telling myself "I'll get one more year out of it" for the last 3 years.

I have the 2017 13" MacBook Pro without the touchbar at the baseline which means 128gb ssd and 2.3 dual core which isn't great. I haven't had any problems with my Macbook and its been great. My biggest complaint is that I don't have enough storage and the dual core can be a bit slow at times but for doing simple stuff, it has been awesome

I also concluded in my pre-purchase survey I wanted a 2013+ 15". As demands became strong with the failures of the 2018-2019 machines, those 2013 models disappeared from the market. I heard some may have been bought, 12 at a time! Fortune smiled upon me when I finally made my purchase of a mid-2015 15" MBP. Fast, clean, fresh storage, with the last great keyboard, dual graphics . . . it was a win, win, WIN! Now I am portable. By the way, after my 2006 BTO iMac melt down, I was wary of all those years of overheating. Noted that the heat problem did not go away until 2017 when the price jumps were huge (sad story). A story that sealed my vision for a used MacBook Pro. Thanks Luke!
I am maxed and have SSD!

Arguably the 2019 13" base model has good specs for the price (not considering storage), but there's no way you can call any Macbook with the butterfly keyboard very good; it will fail in time.

It's funny that almost the same machine from 2011 is the worst and ironically i have both of them. The last is resting on a shelf now, while the other is helping me to perform everyday tasks.

    1. The 2017 MacBook without the Touch Bar has a removable proprietary ssd. You can replace it with an nvme m.2 ssd using an adapter and some duct tape :D
    2. MacBook with dying and graphics can be fixed by disabling the graphics chip using some solder and an insulated wire. The process is kinda difficult, but your local repair shop should do the job.
