Dick Emery was a massive name in British comedy for over twenty years. He died in 1983 but has very nearly been forgotten unless you are of a certain age. He doesn't get the same recognition as Tommy Cooper or Morecambe and Wise or the two Ronnies who were all his comtempories
I must have had the best examiner ever. The first thing he said to my instructor was "I have just been told I got the promotion with a good pay rise and will be close to where I live". He was in a very good mood. I passed first go.
I laughed again as I was only under 10 years old when him and other comedians was on telly. WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO WATCH BENNY HILL. I DARE YOU NEAL. HE WAS ONE OF THE VERY VERY TOP. COMEDIANS. PLEASE LOOK HIM UP. I’m amazed that NO reactor at all has commentated on him. You will DEFINITELY SEE WHY. Nice one. PLEASE DOOOOO. BARBARA BRITISH.😂😂
The comedy genius, he picks up two matches and drops one purposely, for extra effect.. The other actor notices this extra touch and semi shows his reaction to the audience/camera.
Years ago I took a young lady pupil to the test centre in my school car, she was wearing her usual summer attire, a skimpy top and incredibly short shorts. I couldn't understand why she was looking upset as she had passed. She had been tested by the senior woman examiner who had asked her if she was expecting a male examiner, all the way home she was calling the examiner names, miserable cow, battle-axe, old witch etc etc etc. on the other end of the scale one gentleman turned up on his test day in a cream 3 piece suit, brown tie, and white shoes, he said he wanted to give the examiner a good impression, I thought he looked like the deceased half of randall and hopkirk, he swore it played a part in his first time pass. Happy days.
Think of what an instructor or examiner might have to go through with a novice driver behind the wheel - no wonder he's nervous! As for "you drove like a man" - it was different times :) This was probably made about 1970! RIP Dick Emery.
So much HARDER in the UK _(according to many American reactors here on YT)..._ I'm 66, so even more difficult, I believe _(since I took it),_ with it split into the various different parts!?
My former girl friend used to dress up like a tart when she took her car to a mechanic to do some repairs. It was her way to "negotiate" aboy the price.
Passed first time on all three tests. Motorcycle, car and HGV I and II (Heavy goods vehicle with trailer). I did have the advantage of having military training for the latter two tests Although the actual driving tests for both were in and around Cardiff with a civilian examiner. You should look at the difference in standard of driving test required between the UK and the various US States. Quite an eye opener? Also the compulsory minimum standards required to have a car legally on the road over here?
I took 30+ driving lessons then lockdown happen, as I'm single I gave up as I can go anywhere by bicycle, was just 5 points or less below hazard perception though
My original driving instructor had to go have a triple heart bypass in the middle of my lessons so he passed me of to his colleague who was utterly worthless so i failed my first test by miles... my second test with my 3rd instructor i only made 2 minor mistakes. (meaning i passed second attempt) I think i would have been fine with the first instructor but i can't blame him for health issue. Second guy was utterly useless. 3rd guy was great.
Passed First time in the 90s at 17. Drive no problem, but i messed up one question, she showed me a stop sign and my mind hit a blank. Lucky last question so I passed.
I passed first time 40 years ago, but have only ever owned 5 cars. I hate driving and I'm BAD at it. I'm not allowed to now anyway due to a medical condition. The roads are safer without me!
Bro try theory I bet you won’t even get 25 out off 50 and like that’s just start off thing before you actually drive yk would be good video if you video your self doing it
Dick Emery was hiarious. remember him when i was a kid. Silly mad fun!
One of our best commedians ever!
Grew up watching him. We had so much variety and fun back then unlike today!
So many sketch shows back then we were spoilt for choice but didn't know it
What a great show that was. Remember it very fondly honky tonks😂
The late, very great Dick Emery. Gone since 1980-and still missed! 😢
Close, 1983.
I passed my test second time too.. but the UK driving test is way harder than the US one!
In the US all they need to know for a driving licence is where to store their guns in a car. 😂
The Dick Emery Show was one of the prime time Saturday evening shows when I was a kid. When Saturday night TV was still intended for family viewing.
Brought back a few memories I had forgotten he did so many characters😅😅
I’m now 63, I watched Dick Emery on the knee of my beloved grandad in the late 60s, early 70s. It was a magical time and I still love him now 👏
Still funny all these years on.
Dick Emery was a comedy genius. He had many silly characters ! xx
Never took the test just a few driving lessons for experience then went back to cycle til I retired from work at 66 yrs old
for the Americans, "you are awful, but i like you" was the catch phrase for that character. she (He) said it every time.
I used to love the Dick Emery show when I was a kid.
Neal the joke was the nervous guy was the instructor he was obviously nervous because he had a rookie that wasn't best placed to take his test..
You can't beat British comedy
The American driving test.
What is that with the 4 wheels?
A car.
Well done, you passed your test.
First of all he's not the instructor. He's the examiner.
I'd be nervous too with some of the learner drivers.
You really need to check out Benny Hill who was another British comedy giant ! xx

Passed mine in 1988,same year as I passed motorbike test then did class 1 hgv and psv license in 1991 won't be doing any more.

He's the examiner not the instructor
Three times, but first time I was failed cos instructor said car was too big for a woman to handle!
Wouldn’t get away with that today😉😂
Comedy legend. Saturday evenings have never been the same.
Passed my driving test on 3rd attempt 1982.
passed mine on the 5th attempt same year
His catchphrase was. 'you are awful but I like you ', I will always remember that

Driving test in the UK are a lot different to the USA 😎👍

My father passed his test in a tank when he did his national service!😀
True Story. In around 1972 a Pakistani colleague in London asked me if I had seen Digger Murray, who I assumed was a new Australian Comedian:)
Dave allen ten pound note is the best
everything Dave Allen is the best.
Used to watch the many faces of Dick Emery many years ago...hees still as funny after watching him again
I took 30+ driving lessons then lockdown happen, as I'm single I gave up as I can go anywhere by bicycle, was just 5 points or less below hazard perception though

Bro try theory I bet you won’t even get 25 out off 50 and like that’s just start off thing before you actually drive yk would be good video if you video your self doing it

When you actually think how old this is
Please for the love of god, tell me it took you two times in a manual car and not an automatic 😂😂😂😂
Dick emery was the examiner.
2 tests
Love it. I grew up with Dick Emery. That breed of comedy is gone sadly.
When this came out, I don't think we realised just how revoltingly patronising was the last item!
It’s comedy and not to be taken seriously.
@@paddycable1723 Agreed!
First for me
Wouldnt get away with it now.this was the little britain of the day.
