The best thing about Dave Allen was that NOTHING and NOBODY was sacred - which is exactly what comedy should be.
100%
Dave was an atheist and that said he always ended his shows with “ and may your god go with you “ , the world needs more people with that attitude ❤️🏴
@@recliningbuddha i THINK YOU ARE ANALYSING IT TOO MUCH, THE FIRST PART IS RIGHT, BUT HE ISN'T INFERRING THAT YOU MUST TAKE THE ROAD THAT HE HAS, BUT SAYING, YOU ARE FREE TO BELIEVE IF YOU WANT. DAVE NEVER SAID ,OUTRIGHT, RELIGION IS FALSE, BUT USED COMEDY TO EXPRESS HIS PERSONAL BELIEFS.
@@recliningbuddha Nah... Dave is saying if you believe in a certain god, then that god exists and he hopes he goes with you.
@@recliningbuddha Dave was an atheist who believed he was right...that there was no creator...however, he admitted that he COULD be wrong and that anyone who believed in any god COULD be right.
NO HE WASN'T. He stated he was a "religious sceptic" which is not the same. Stop lying!!
@MrDaiseyma
No it isn't. He was NOT an atheist, but called himself a "religious sceptic".
His delivery was exceptional. There will never be another.
Only an Irishman would have got away with these jokes. So glad Neal you appreciate his talent. Love your reaction!!
Seen Dave Alan live at a club in the late 70's he was supposed to give an hour show but over run by an hour. At the end of the show my stomach hurt, eyes crying and I was desperate to go to the toilet, the whole audience were the same..... funniest comic I've ever seen and his stories ..... brilliant!
His delivery and comic timing puts him right at the top of the premier league of comedians
I saw him live in Manchester with my dad. Dave was quite “Blue” which could have been embarrassing but wasn’t!
Dave Allen is and was always the greatest for Religious Jokes. He did years of them, all of them awesome. I grew up watching him. Absolute comedy Gold. Genius. No one like him, before or since.
Greatest at jokes 👍👍
It's wonderful that this young man has "found" Dave Allen. He has always been my top top top comedian.
Dave teaching a child how to tell the time is good. But pretty much everything he did was.
Lots of good sketches too.
The man is a legend. ❤
There is no humour like Irish humour😂😂❤🏴
Billy Connolly: "hold my beer" 🏴❤️🇮🇪
@@gaiaiulia liked him, but he wasnt a patch on Dave.
@@sonofcy he was special. Very clever humour indeed. We were very proud of him in Ireland. I do like Billy Connoy though.
Fun fact, Dave Allen first found fame in Australia, we loved him
I never knew this thank you for that
Lucky barstewards l😂
Dave Allen is in my top 5 stand up comedians of all time. I will never forget seeing this guy make a return to telly in the early 90s. It was a massive eye opener for me. Adore him. I was only about 16 or 17 and he affected my outlook massively. He was on another planet. The best storytelling for me. Certainly up there with the best. Genius. I love your reactions dude.
He was the very best. I remember we were so happy when we finally got a vhs recorder so we could tape the shows and watch it back to catch the parts we missed from laughing to hard..A True Genius.
Tremendous . I saw him live on stage towards the end of his career and he was brilliant.
To my knowledge it was actually Oscar Wilde who said “Religion is like a blind man looking in a black room for a black cat that isn’t there, and finding it.” Dave made a great joke out of it though.
Both great Irish story tellers. Both great outsiders. Wilde was gay and Allen was from a Protestant background ;-)
Wait, if you are blind, does it matter if the room is dark or the cat black??? so many questions?? So many very, very, pointless questions.
No he was a Catholic brought up with nuns
@ thanks. I stand corrected.
Dave was a class act.
“They like to think they’re the only ones here” is such a great punchline
Thanks Neal. Dave Allen was one of the funniest people on TV when I was young. He's still funny now I'm 60. 🇦🇺👍
Dave Allen was an absolute legend. When I was growing, up all my family used to watch Dave Allen at large. A genius storyteller. One thing matey. You don't have to repeat the jokes after we've just watched the same ones you have. We get it. Lol.peace out.
Of the ones shown, my favorite was the two racing coffins, but that's because I love visual humor. All of those jokes were great. I watched Dave Allen in college during the late 70's, early 80's. I still want to find my favorite: the priest in the pulpit after the congregation sang "All Creatures Great and Small." People who remember this sketch will understand why, at my beloved Nana's funeral, I actually let out a loud bark of laughter (quickly smothered) upon hearing the first notes being played of "All Creatures Great and Small." My mother later said that my Nana (her mother, born in Belfast) would have approved, as Nana always said, "If you don't have a sense of humor, you're sunk!" So much fun to see you react to these jokes. Dave Allen was one of my favorite comedians.
He's funny! I've never heard a superstition about not burying 2 people on the same day in the same graveyard before; is that something he made up, or do some people believe that? Certainly not something believed here in the US. People have double funerals all the time here when families die together in fires or car accidents or whatnot. Everyone gets buried on the same day, to my knowledge. Either way, that made for a very funny skit! :)
@@xzonia1 I know of a variation told by my Welsh great aunt- the latest person buried has to stay and 'guard' the churchyard until the next burial. I used to wonder what happened when the churchyard was full...
I've seen these so many times, but watching them with you, and seeing your reactions, almost felt like seeing them for the first time. 😊❤
The one and only Dave Allen. Could listen to him for hours. Sad he was taken to soon. ❤
A coffin falls out the back of a hearse and crashes into the front of a pharmacist. The deceased gets out, walks up to the counter and asks, have you got anything to stop my coffin, (coughing).
Dave was a great comedian, and a warm and generous human being. His act often included long, meandering ghost stories with a punchline. On these occasions the studio lights were dimmed. He’d also tell various tales of how he lost part of the index finger of his right hand.
Dave Allen sadly died in 2005.
We loved Dave Allen - family viewing every week!
the last joke is absolutely perfect
Your hearty laughing has me in stitches, man 🤣🤣🤣
This was the comedy I grew up with. Brilliant.
Seen him live on stage. Just about wet myself laughing.
You crack me up with your reactions, but this was just so funny watching you. My dad loved this guy, I rarely saw my dad belly laugh, but this guy could do it ❤😊
My dad (Dutch Catholic) loved Dave Allen (with subtitles).
My dad and I would watch Dave Allen and The Two Ronnies on our own in the mid 70’s. It was like our special time together. I had such a crush on Dave Allen who was nearly as old as my dad. Our father never liked any of our husbands, they were never good enough, but I think he would have approved if I had married Dave Allen 😂
Good looking bloke with a sense of humour- seems reasonable to me.
Dave allen on airplanes is funny 😂
TIP OUT THE BABY, put the damn coffin on!!😂😂
My fave Dave Allen religious sketch was set in "The United Reform Church of South Africa" (this was during the Apartheid era). The minister comes into the church and sees a black guy on his knees in front of the altar.
The minister says abruptly. "You boy! What are you doing here?"
The black guy says "I'm cleaning the floor sir".
Minister: " Oh, that's alright. But don't ever let me catch you praying in here!"
The good old days when humour crossed all borders and races and religions, and nobody got offended.
A legend. Glad you enjoy real humour.
Dave Allen first time going to school is great!
That was very funny, remember that one, saw it on the telly, 🤣🤣
Love ❤ dave one of the true greats !!!
🙏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌👍👍👍
Dave was Irish....that's our humour😂😂😂😂
Dave Allen did more for my religious education than any teacher from the get go!
Dave used to be on every Fri night ( i think it was) for years he was so popular people loved his show. He had Genius timing in his delivery of his joke timing
Hi m8 when I was growing up in Scotland I was not allowed to watch Dave and Billy connelly because my we gran was a hard corce catholic so I asked my Sep brother way I was not allowed and he recorded Dave and Billy I started asking questions in my primary school and they told the priest and my gran to have a word with me and let's just say it was funny to say the least and got kik out of having to go to church 😆 love your page 😀
American reacts, thankyou for this. Dave Allen was so funny and Hillarious!! Lol, Loads of stuff he did. One in particular were he did putting the kids to bed and they were worried about ghosts and he said there was no such thing,! Don't want to spoil it, just watch it
One of the best comedians
Seconding the suggestions for you to watch Dave's routine about teaching your kid how to tell the time.
saw him live once in the mid 70's absolutely brilliant.
I'm a girl of the 60's and the thing I remember most about Dave Allen is that he's lost the top of his left index finger lol
Your face when the pram and coffin rolled away. Loved it. ⚰️⚰️😂😘
Dave Allen was a VERY funny man.
Thank you for reacting to this.
Next you should do Frankie Boyle.
You are a really lovely sincere person - I am with you 100% because you are what you is.
Went to see Dave live many, many years ago(early 1970s) & he was on stage over 2 hours finishing about 1.15 am, non stop jokes, never repeating himself & went off to a standing ovation. I've never laughed so much in my life, the man was a comic genius. No "dirty" jokes, he didn't need them, just bloody good comedy, something you don't see much of today. Sadly missed, a one off😂
i couldn't believe it when I heard it on the news that he'd passwd atv 60, far too young.
Teaching children how to read time. It’s very funny. Dealing with teenagers and so on. He’s great.
Nice and funny to watch your reaction to Dave Allen - good one
I grew up in England and remember Dave Allen, he was hilarious! Thanks for bringing this back, I am still laughing!
I think you may have done it already, but my favourite is "teaching your children the time". Absolute genius!
Lol dave allen i still watch him now dave Allen legand r.i.p🙏
Glad I'm half irish.. takes humour to laugh at yourself and the state of the World.
R.I.P. Dave Allen, and thanks for your presence. I remember watching this with my family...
I liked the interview on the Johnny Carson show when he asks Bob Newhart [german name] if he is Irish, and he says that he is three quarters Irish and one quarter German which makes him a very meticulous drunk.
hey neal sense of humor is everything i found your channel by accident im irish and i find your channel absolutely hilarious , keep going my friend
Loved the 70s it had comedians like him .
The Adam & Eve sketch is my favourite and if I need a bit of joy I watch it again, never ceases to make be happy.
Loving you reactions bud, keep it u :)
When we were in the UK my Dad worked for a large UK company. They had a management coference and had to have three dinners with the bosses to get everyone through. They hired Dave Allen to do three nights. The second night the bosses decided they'd seen the show the night before so they could sneak off. He pulled them back "You asked for three shows. If I tell a joke you heard earlier you can leave". They stayed for all three nights.
Wonderful Dave Allen ❤ I never get tired of watching him.
Adam and Eve my best ever D.A story gets me every time.
One of the greatest skits of all time.
You do know Dave passed away in 2005 also that was an old-fashioned pram/stroller, not a wheelchair and he was hilarious I have fond memories of watching his shows
One of a kind
He was the best, remember seeing him on the TV, there is a joke I saw , in the series, about a small boy starting a catholic school, but I'm not able to find it, it was hilarious,, miss him.
Excellent! RIP Dave.
You said it! Comedy gold.
I was lucky enough to work in show business many years ago. I meet Dave Allen in a dressing room of an actor I was an assistant to, he had us all laughing. A lovely and funny man.
My dad loved him, I remember watching him have tears rolling down his face with laughing so much. I was too young to get why. As an adult, I laugh too. Plus, I lived in the village where the coffin sketch was filmed many years later, it was near the town I grew up in. Aldbury, I lived not far from the pond.
Try his clip on teaching the time to a child. Genius.
I'm glad you enjoy oor Dave! I wonder if you have seen his other sketches, the cafe one! I am new to you as I just saw you reacting to Dave Allen on the side bar!
growing up in Ireland in the 80s Dave Allen was a legend.
Dave Allen was sheer brilliance with a mouth.
Reminds me of that episode from
OPEN ALL HOURS
With David Jason where the shop keeper intentionally misspelled the name of the shop so that whenever people walk past they would go into the shop to complain that the words are misspelt 😂😂😂😂
I don't know if you have ever seen Life of Brian but it is well worth a watch. It was released in 1979 and
is very much ahead of its time as it really mocks what we today call woke. It is definitely not anti Christian
but also mocks wierd religious cults. To test the water try Life of Brian I want to be a woman scene.
Love Dave .Glad you enjoyed. You have a great sense of humour.💌
Hey brother. I'm that you loved Dave Allen, he was hilarious
"May your god go with you" - was his final line is all his shows
I love how you feel the need to explain some of the jokes.
His timing was absolutely bang on. 😊
Loved Dave Allen!! Irreplacable!!❤
You have a smile to die for!! Just wanted to say
Dave done a lot of ghost stories worth watching 😂 🇬🇧
I liked the one with the nun who kept getting told she had got out of the wrong side of the bed. Then the Mother Superior asks her why she has the Bishops shoes on. LOL
Love you loving our old humour ♥️🇬🇧
Remember watching this on TV with my parents when I was a kid!
So happy to hear you are a Christian, Neal.
I haven't seen Dudley Moore in years, thanks for that. 😂
Hi Neal, so very pleased you enjoyed Dave Allan at his best. If I may suggest, have a look for him doing "Telling the time" I promise you that you'll love it
All the very best from over the pond.
I love you’re take on our humour, you should watch the four Yorkshiremen
The telling the time routine never fails. Up there with Ronnie Barker for use of the absurdities of the English language to create genius comedy.
I’m old enough to remember this , if my memory is correct it was on bbc2 8:10 pm on a Tuesday night , I was obviously only a child and didn’t understand it , my dad just loved it x
Same here. In addition to making us laugh, Dave Allen made us think.
They are more Facts than Jokes
He was brilliant.
Love dave allen.
Enjoyed your reaction. Dave Allen is the best.
Questioning is good. It used to be said, if God had meant us to fly, he'd have given us wings. No wings, but we DO have brains (well, some of us) with which to think, imagine and create. Religion can be good as a guide, NOT a *substitute* for those things. My two cents, as an agnostic. :)
He was wonderful. He made the whole country so proud of him, making it big in Britain. Except the religious bigots, of course. Even my parents who were very religious loved him.
Thanks for showcasing one of our greatest come dou. Have you watched Father Ted yet? Please do!
I loved watching him. I have some DVDs of his work.
I loved Dave Allen.
Watch his routine about aeroplanes, or the one about teaching a child to tell the time. Genius, the both of them.
