The problem with this river is that it can look calm, but just the under current is lethal. Like he said, it pulls you under, and the caves below go miles. You are not getting out alive. It fools many people, and they have no idea how dangerous it is.

If you’re travelling between cities and large towns it wouldn’t take that long. However once you’re out in the Highlands and Islands the can be quite a few single track roads with passing places. During the tourist season it can get very busy, making journey times slower. There may be lower wages here, though I don’t think the difference would be that much, but we also don’t have medical or large student debt. If you're born here it's just another day. I love the seasons here. I couldn't live somewhere like Spain where it's boiling hot the whole time. I don't really like being sweaty & sticky or feeling like I'm living in a kiln.

Best countries for bread (in my experience) are Germany, Cyprus, and Greece. Bread in the UK is ok, but supermarkets have destroyed bakeries and factories have ruined traditional local breads. We just don't have the care and love for our own bread that other countries do. UK is more into it's cheese.

When it comes to rain the UK, i would say Wales and Scotland probably gets the most rain and yeah you would get soaked through if you don't have the right waterproof coats etc. Cost of living is pretty much the same in all of the UK with exceptions of some places, so what they say about Scotland can also apply to Wales, Northern Ireland and some parts of England too Neal.

Strid looks so tranquil in summer, you should see it in winter, Spectacular. Edit, the whole Bolton Abbey estate is Spectacular tbh. after Fountains and Selby Abbeys, its my favourite.

I live near here. We got married at Bolton Abbey in 1999. The year before (in 1998 not 2010) a young couple who were on honeymoon in the nearby village of Appletreewick were washed away and their respective bodies were found at different locations a few miles down river, one a few days later, the other 2 weeks later. You cannot paddle, swim or do anything at The Strid. There are notices up saying how dangerous it is but the reality is if you go in you die. The New York Times did an article calling it England’s Killer Creek. The river flips here, the current is horrific and there is no buoyancy due to the way the water flows. All us locals treat it with the utmost respect. He was getting too close for comfort to the water. The rocks there can get slippy at any time of year and when there’s moss on them they are lethal. I would not have got that close.

If that guy had fallen in the river at 10:29, he’s a goner. Some parts of the river are as deep as two Double Decker buses one on top of another. That’s between 26 and 28 Feet deep.

I live not too far away from this river, and it is very dangerous. It has got a 100% FATALITY rate. If you fall in you are not getting out ALIVE. It may look calm and peaceful on the surface, but underneath it’s like a washing machine, the current is so strong it will suck you straight under the water.
