I’m glad to see that most folk in the comments have common sense! Yes, you couldn’t make a show like this today - whether that’s a good or bad thing is a separate debate altogether. I’ll echo what’s already been said by many people on here - Alf was always the butt of the joke. The show was highlighting his bigotry, not to be laughed along with but to be laughed at! Rising Damp was another great example of this. Rigsby the landlord who had an African Prince training to be a doctor living with him who always got the attention leaving Rigsby as the racist clown that was to be pitied. These shows were not written to be racist, it was the very opposite of that but modern generations can’t get over their faux outrage at ‘words’ and completely miss the point.

I spent several years working in the Middle East, North Africa and the subcontinent, as well as various European and other countries, and holidaying in yet more countries. BY FAR the worst experiences were entering the USA where passport and customs were just plain rude and arrogant. Even in chaotic, disorderly African countries or hostile Asian ones, border and customs were nothing like as plain HORRIBLE as those in the USA. Their attitude is simply dreadful. The Iranians and Syrians are far, far more pleasant, welcoming and helpful.

Those were the days when you could have shows like Mind your language which sold to countries all around the world taking the piss and stereotyping people from different countries. It was harmless fun laughing at ourselves. Now everyone is just so bloody serious taking offence to every little thing. I remember Love Thy Neighbour of a white family living next door to a black family. The two guys arguing every episode calling each other Honky and Sambo. It was hilarious and just showed the stupidity of their polarised behaviour. Never did I watch it thinking it was racist more a parody.

the customs official do not pull at random, they are trained to pick up on body language and behaviour , also by the time you have walked through and got your luggage. It has been x-rayed, scanned and sniffer dogs been all over it. You passport has been checked your visa, has been checked.

For the UK if you were a citizen you go through a separate area. On a visit a family friend tried to smuggle more cigarettes than allowed. My mum followed the rules but her friend had cigarettes mixed in her suitcase and they caught her cost her a sizable fine.lol

Been to the USA about 30 times from UK, many states... The only time I was interrogated was In Dallas airport... I felt like a criminal... After about 1 or so hours they let me through, probably one of my worst experiences...

Mountain Leaders are not a secret or Tier One Elite Force. They are a very specialised group within the Royal Marines Mountain Cadre that trains and works with Tier One units for very specific tasks. However they can not do not everything an SAS/SBS or SFF trooper can do. No disrespect to them and they are probably as tough, whatever that means but they are just not trained to do what Tier One Units do.

British customs officers are trained to recognise anyone who looks/seems nervous or apprehensive. That's why they 'hang around'. They're sussing you out as you walk by...

Believe me, if I have nothing to declare and walk through the nothing to declare gate, I feel guilty as hell and it probably shows. You try not to look at officials and that is suspicious in itself. However, they are well trained and can pick out the guilty ones by their body language and tells.

UK is used for things outside of the country, The King, his Family represent the country, the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary represent it for business, passport, UK 🇬🇧 is on a sticker on vehicles. it is not used for sport as that is England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, Northern Ireland, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 as well as Great Britain 🇬🇧. When you land you are either in England (Kings English proper English, not total drivel like in america who use their bottoms to think with), Northern Ireland (English), Scotland (English, Scots or Scottish Gaelic) or Wales (Welsh).

On one occasion I was able to say I was on my way to FL to visit a former Secretary of the Treasury and wow, did that cause an instant change of attitude - suddenly smarmy as hell.

Yes Unlike The TSA The British Border Force Are Top Tea Border Agents ! Then in My Opinion Comes The Irish Republic Australia Canada and New Zealand ?. America’s TSA Tend To Change Shifts At Awkward Times Especially if You’re Coming From The UK Europe and Other Places in Europe or North Africa ! The Last Few Times Especially if you’ve been Travelling for 12 or More Hours ?. I think The TSA ARE OVER PAYED RENT A COPS WITH THOUGHTS OF GRANDEUR AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT DO NOT KNOW THE FIRST AMENDMENT OR IGNORE IF ALL TOGETHER ?. I have been to America dozens (Orlando, LAX, NY, Boston, Miami) of times & I have never been stopped after getting my suitcase or seen anybody. The only thing that I have seen is when waiting for your luggage is a sniffer dog, which I find quite cool

The first time I went to LA they just tipped my case upside down and emptied its entire contents onto the belt letting some fall on the floor. I've travelled quite a bit of the world and this is the worst experience ever. In addition I found the customs officers curt and rude. Elsewhere, I've known the officers to help repack a case where they have disturbed it in a random check
