Even when the mist is hanging thick and the sun is sleeping in, there’s a certain poetry to canal boat life. It certainly doesn't take long to get in the flow of things. Everything about the canal demands patience, from waiting for bridges to open to watching the boat rise and fall in a lock. Experiences like this remind us to slow down and just enjoy the beautiful in-between moments of life.✨ Go to surfshark.com/wynns for 4 extra months of Surfshark at an unbeatable price!

I am Belgian from the Bruges region. Thanks for showcasing my region. A couple of clarification. The canal you were on is called the Damme canal or the Napoleon canal. It isn’t from medieval time but was built by Napoleon in the early 1800s for industrial and military reasons. During the Middle Ages the sea was much closer to the old city but it silted up and receded. When Bruges was a port city, it indeed was together with Florence a dominant merchant city in the late Middle Ages. The little canals within the old city are a remnant of the Middle Ages to support commercial activity but today they serve cultural and tourist purpose. By the way, locals often call, tongue in cheek, Venice the Bruges of the South…
curious if the movie from the mid 2010s has added to your tourism? I myself am a tour guide, and I find weird facts like that interesting! ty for sharing the information about the area! honestly, prior to this video, my only information about your city was from said action film
As a Belgian guy living on a boat not too far from Bruges, I am *so* impressed on how you guys documented the city. I learned a lot (as a Belgian guy). I love how you guys not "just" make youtube vids but very often great documentaries!!! Oh, and Nikki's boating skills are insane, you took one of the hardest locks there 🙂. You were there in the most gnarly weather we ever had, and still had a lot of fun, love it!
Why you guys don't have 2 million subscribers by now is baffling to me. The footage, the editing, the content is always spot on. Cheers from San Diego!
But neither one of them is a trust fund baby. Nikki was raised by her grandmother after a really rocky early childhood (ua-cam.com/video/YB1CEUtDqNU/v-deo.html) and Jason's was raised by a single mom who was trying to get a business off the ground during his early years. They're incredibly focused, hard-working, and frugal and typically work 60 hour weeks. Curious Minion
Loving the different content. A lot of the sailing UA-camrs never show you the places they visit. The whole point is showing these places from a firsthand experience not incessant dolphin shots. It’s not about the vessel as your Belgium series proves, it’s about the locations you take us to. Loved seeing the Philippines through your eyes. Love that in the middle of a stressful time you chose to to do something positive. And the smiles say it all. Keep on keeping on you guys. Big love from Ireland 🙏🏻
You bring up an interesting point of how different sailing channels balance their content format between filming/discussing the activity of actual sailing, versus the same for the places they visit. While their current boat situation has obviously made this trip to Bruges a good plan, the Wynns seem to have in general found a good balance between the two format choices. Cheers :-)
I realized I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time I watched this. ALLLLLLLL the towers, Jason!! And I just wanted that cheese at the market!! I also told Hubs that we are 100% doing this Le Boat adventure. He looked a little skeptical. I said "Don't worry, I'll drive". I'm not sure that helped, but he knows that once I have a bee in my bonnet , there is no point in arguing it. 😂😂😂
😂 Ditto on all points. I just watched and told my wife we’ve got to do the Le Boat canal trip and visit Bruges…and yes she just gave me that eye roll look. 😂😂😂
Jason, you are so funny. Like a kid in a candy store, you are sure giddy about the towers and the beer. You both make such a cute couple, I love and enjoy watching your videos so much. Thank you for taking me (all of us) along with you. Have fun in your next town, I'm looking forward to seeing it with you. Until then...be safe!
Love your channel and Bruges! You inspire me to rent a canal boat and cruise the canals. In the early 1970s Belgium decided to clean up the polluted canals around Bruges and your show displays the beautiful result. I spent a year in the Flemish part of Belgium as an American student exchange student 50 years ago. My wife and daughters have gone back to visit my Belgian host family and they have visited us in California. You really capture the scenic beauty, delicious food and beer and relaxed pace of Belgium beyond Brussels. OMG, just realized the mussels are in season in Belgium now (October to March). I’m so jealous. Steamed mussels, fries and beer of your choice are a Belgian speciality! And just about every Belgian speaks English. Hope you are not afraid to learn a few Dutch (Flemish) phrases. ‘Alstublieft,’ ‘Dank U’ ‘Goede Morgen,” “Wij zijn zo blij dat wij in Belgie zijn’ will elicit smiles of appreciation that you are trying. The Dutch (Flemish) language is probably closer to English than any other. Thanks again for producing a terrific show about cruising the Belgian canals.
That's so awesome about you keeping up with your exchange student connection. I did an exchange in Finland back in 1986 and, while my host Pieta and I fell out of touch over the years, it is such a fond memory for me.
Many of the narrow (stepped gable) warehouses reflected the width of the ships of the time. Lines were marked on the floors representing the deck plan(s) of different ships and goods were pre-stacked ready to move aboard when the ship completed its passage and was ready to be reloaded etc. often the buildings are in pairs, representing the bow and stern spaces, with floors representing different decks. This significantly sped up the turnover in port (a costly dockage/ mooring fee was therefore avoided). You’ve seen the same building styles in Amsterdam etc. Beautifully filmed and edited another nice Sunday morning fantasy!
Amsterdam was actually planned for growth and trade and they had a maximum width of the canal side plots to maximize the direct canal access of merchants, combining home with storage on the top floors. Digging the canals was a huge investment, it had to be earned back by lots of trade. Bruges probably developped much more organically over centuries, and much earlier of course but it's nice to learn they already were very efficient.
When you are documenting other countries with so much going on in the world, bringing clarity would be a challenge, and you rose to the challenge, thank you for documenting everything.
I am loving this canal trip in Belgium!! I realized while watching these videos that I don’t know much about Belgium. Thank you for taking us with you!! It is so beautiful!!
Thank you for taking the time to set down the camera and film yourselves walking away from it hand in hand. It was my favorite moment of the whole beautiful episode. -So lovely to see you two on a bit of a vacation and enjoying yourselves!
I can truthfully say I think I have enjoyed your canal boating videos the most, both the current ones and the ones from England. They are just so much fun, and very interesting 🤗
Thanks to its authentic and historical medieval beauty, the German Commander, Immo Hopman, refused to carry out orders from his superiors to bomb the city during WWII. Much of Belgium was not spared, however with occupation from 1940-1945. You guys picked a good city to visit.
I just love you guys, even when you have lemons falling on your head by the hundreds you figure out away to make the best lemonade. This series is great, I can’t travel, get motion sickness just putting my head back too far and even I want to go and do this little canal boat adventure.
Bruges is still so beautiful! Lived in Belgium 1975-1979, Bruges has grown so much since then. I am living vicariously through your trip to Belgium - it brings back so many memories for me. Thank you!
Several years ago my wife and I saw the movie, "In Bruges" (Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Gleeson). Great dark comedy. It introduced us to and showed off the remarkable city of Bruges. We immediately wanted to go. A few months later our son qualified for a duathlon in a city nearby so we decided to join him in Europe -- and go to Bruges. Stunning, fascinating place. We learned about "mussels and frites" and, of course, the beer. The best analogy I came up with is that Belgian beer is to beer as champagne is to wine. It has a completely different mouthfeel. Our son had done some serious research into Belgian beers, so one evening our mission was to find an exceptional beer he'd researched. We went shop-to-shop in search of that one rare and special beer. We eventually found a place that agreed to sell us four bottles of this beer, but only four. I don't remember the name of that beer, but I will never forget the label. "Made for Monks by Monks in a Monastery as an Equitable Recompense for Celibacy". Great motto and truly GREAT beer
Aw, don't forget Clémence Poésy she also starred in The Tunnel a British adaptation of the Danish The Bridge (Bron) and also in a few Harry Potter films
Thank you for the awesome cinematographic tour of Bruges. What a beautiful place, especially for those who love the canal towns of Europe. Definitely one of the best preserved city centers. And so glad to see you both so happy together, given the challenging boat ordeals of this past year.
A quick note to say thanks, been following for maybe 4 years, and this one takes the cake for production values and, well, fun and entertainment and interest. This one rates five tacos (highest rating).
These are the Wynn's episodes I enjoy the most when its really some travel vlogging. None of the behind the scenes stuff but just going out and traveling around doing something cool. Very comfy and totally kino. Best travel vloggers on the internet!
Most Americans haven’t heard of Bruge. I’ve been twice, once during Christmas Market and once in the Fall. I tell my friends to put it on their bucket list. It is hard to describe accurately the magic of Bruge. The images, the sounds, the fragrances. Thanks for showing this special place. It is one of my favorite places.
The lack of industry during the world wars is probably what saved the city. There was no reason to bomb what was essentially an art colony. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
so happy to join you for a few sidebar journeys that give you joy - a welcome rest from the wrenching reality of your boat distress. good for you both for taking a mental health break.
To all the "Belgian's" out there..... What a BEAUTIFUL city!! I was there in the military about a thousand years ago but I don't remember it nearly that beautiful! Way to go Wynns to make a "not so great" thing (A broken catamaran)..... GREAT!! What AWESOME content!!..... I mean heck! I even found Waldo!! 19:56 (and I say that with love!)
I was born in Belgium, but left when I was a baby and have only been back twice while living in Chicago. Now living in San Diego and nearing retirement, visiting my birth place and many other areas of Belgium are on my bucket list for sure.
I spent a year after graduation from LaSalle, touring Europe. Bruges was one of the most interesting locations along my route. You hit this one out of the PARK! Happy Thanksgiving from the States. We are so impressed with your channel's diversity, exquisite cinematography and quality editing. Enjoy the beer.
I follow several YT sailing channels, but I will only watch onshore visits if they are easy to watch, which requires no ego, just down-to-earth good personalities, a natural sense of humour, a genuine spark and camaraderie between the hosts, and a wholesome respect for the people and places they visit. Nikki and Jason have all of that, plus more. Very enjoyable to watch. Thanks guys.
I much prefer this content over the sailing. Reminds me more of the good ol' days in the RVs. Sailing life just stresses me out and seems WAY less fun. Thanks for the fun education and inspiration.
Seeing all those pastry shops takes me back. Born a Brit to an Irish Father and a British Mother, who was raised in Antwerp (I know, it's complicated), I only know Belgium from visiting my Grandparents (since passed) and my Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Having lived in lots of countries (Hong Kong, Malawi, Germany, UK, and more) I've seen my fair share of different cultures, so what stands out to me are the differences that are unique to Belgium. Bread - it seemed that no matter where you lived in Antwerp, you weren't far from a local baker, and bread was bought daily from these little shops, all the bread being made on site, fresh, with no additives. Bicycles and trams - the network of trams, the cycling infrastructure, really stands out. Yes, the Netherlands are very well known for bicycles too, but Belgium is too (Eddy Merckx most successful cyclist of all time). Frituur - the Belgians REALLY know chips, or frites, and the only way to eat them is with mayonnaise, a trait I continue to this day. The other items available from the Frituur are also very unique to Belgium. As much as I also have fond memories of the German Schnellimbiss and their 'halbes hanchen mit pommes' and bratwurst, the Belgian Frituur is an institution and no visit is complete without a dinner from one of them. Chocolate - on the AbdijStraat, a shopping street I knew very well,, at the end was a shop belonging to Leonidas. I am sure there are many other Belgian chocolatiers, but for me Leonidas is the only one. Decadent, hand made individual chocolates, no visit to Belgium was complete until we had several boxes packed ready to take back home. Beer - and last but not least, Belgian beer. Too many to choose from, but Leffe, Frambosie, Kriek and Duvel are my favourites and I'll never get tired of them. Some are available now in the UK, but the price of them is significantly inflated, so make the most of them when you are there.
It is so good to see you both back to yourselves! For a good while, the joy of exploring new experiences was missing and there was a tangible tension. So this episode is a flash of two of my favorite people doing what they love - having new experiences together with enthusiasm and joy!❤
Thanks for showing Brugge like you did. When you spend half of your life there, you don't see and hear it like this anymore. I defenitely have to go there once with the eyes and ears of a first time visitor, so nice to see it that way.
I’m loving this content and excited to see you both smiling and happy especially Nikki. I’m sure HH is going to solve all the issues with curiosity but I know it was wearing you both down. Nice having a break and thank you for sharing your journey.
Well, despite your boat problems you're giving us a real treat by showing us the delights of Bruges, a place I've wanted to visit for a while. Marvelous!
Great video! What a wonderful place to go and visit. With such scenic places, sometimes it’s hard to just soak it in. You want to photograph everything. But, photos always fall short of the experience itself. It is a delicate balance, particularly since traveling and videoing is your livelihood. Thanks for bringing all of us along. Until next week, be safe.
Thank you for this! Ive enjoyed your channel for years. I am sorry to see the boat temporarily derailed but this content is awesome. It shows an adventure that we, lacking a world running chariot, can achieve with a simple plane ticket. I have been fortunate to have traveled to many places and have over the years learned to put my camera away and instead of experiencing it thru an eyepiece or the perfect social media post - I ptefer to just take in the moment and lock it away in my pea size brain, but I do appreciate your taking the time to bring us along. Thanks!
At the end, I was a bit surprised to realize that this was one of your best videos ever! I also imagined the fun you could have if Nick & Terysa or Rico & Victoria collabed on a canal tour!
Again, another amazing adventure with you both. I can't help but remember that you are in the midst of your boat crisis. And yet…you are filling you life with things that bring you joy. Thank you both for sharing your life with us. Your smiles are infectious. 💟
You two are just electric. It’s good to see you more relaxed and enjoying yourselves instead of the stress with Curiosity. This was so much fun to watch. Nikki, you were sitting back arm up just hanging out driving down the canals no big deal. That was pretty funny. Jason‘s collecting beer wherever he goes it was wonderful to hear the comparisons of the Belgian’s coming out and enjoying themselves from like 4 to 7 or whatever in Germany at 5 o’clock everything is rolled up closed not a person in sight unless they’re just walking. Restaurants close businesses closed. Everything just comes to a screeching halt sometimes even at 4:30. So it was fun to hear the comparisons. Thank you so much. Sending lots of love from Liz in California. 🤟🏻💕🐬😎⛵️🇺🇸
Felt my own blood pressure lowering as you got into the canal/bridge rhythm in those lovely mellow surroundings. Good to see you two feeling it as well; laughing & bantering after being so stressed at the start. Understandable but also too funny watching you freaking out a bit about handling that bumper car of a boat on the most chill of waterways, knowing you've sailed the open sea. I'm sure your HH drama is never far from your minds, but glad you've found such stress-relieving shelter from the storm.
Hi guys. I love how in the midst of your boat issues you still are able to keep the spirit of adventure and discovery alive. Europe is an absolutely beautiful place to visit and to live. We came visiting years ago eventually moving to northern Italy… a choice we’ve never regretted. I love your channel, it’s real and unvarnished… like life. PS. We have have tons of towers, a wall around the city and my home is 600 years old 😉
Great to see you both in a different element and all bundled up. In a few years looking back at these photos you are going to laugh so hard at all the tower pictures. I truly love watching your videos on Sunday! Thank you both so very much 😊
Thank you for this video. It brings back wonderful memories or our camper trip in 1994 with our two kids and my mother in-law. Brugge is such an amazing city with so much history.
@13:20 If you like Medieval constructions, then you should make a tour through Europe and visit the countless castles and towers ! If you like to stay on a boat, perhaps a tour through the Danube river to the Black Sea ?
I dont know how you 2 always manage to catch the beauty, the story, and just the life every eere you go. You make my Sunday's something special to look forwards to thank you.
Love it when you visit places and take us along. The history and stories with such beautiful scenery of Bruges makes for a delightful experience and video. I said this last week but I never knew anyone could just rent a canal boat and it’s such a unique way to experience another country and city. I’m always amazed how fast a 30 minute video from the Wynn’s seems to fly by. Happy holidays to everyone
Of all the places I've been, Belgium and Bruges is on the top of my favorites list. Back in 1999 while in the US Navy, we had an extended port visit in Zeebrugge. I'd taken the train to Bruges a few times, and was never disappointed. Thanks for the refresh on some great memories.
We're long-time boaters, but in 2016, we spent 2 months in a motorhome touring Germany, France, Belgium, and Holland. We stayed in the RV park you passed by and walked along the same path into the old city center :))
Minus the beer, I now think I must go there and do those canals myself. I don't drink so beer isn't exciting, but that looks so beautiful, and all the towers! Wow!

Because of the off putting phonics of her nasal American voice narrating what could have been a very decent video.
The RV days got many interesting back in the day. Now…. It feels more like trust fund babies.

Love your show! I have been to Belgium and now enjoying it all over again. Thanks for the memories from California!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone!
Happy Holidays 🌲
I much prefer this content over the sailing. Reminds me more of the good ol' days in the RVs. Sailing life just stresses me out and seems WAY less fun. Thanks for the fun education and inspiration.
Always a great Sunday when the Wynns share their adventure. ❤
Absolutely beautiful. Brings back memories. You are my positive time. Thank you.
I absolutely love your videos. I am Belgian and Irish. Thank you for taking to see my dad's country ❤
Can anyone imagine anything cooler than a canal boat jaunt with Nikki and Jason drinking beer and taking photos of the towers????? Awesome xx🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I am so happy that you have found a great way to take your challenges and capitalize on them.
Well, despite your boat problems you're giving us a real treat by showing us the delights of Bruges, a place I've wanted to visit for a while. Marvelous!
Seeing you walk around Bruges is like looking at you in a painting. ❤
Makes a change from sailing in the Pacific, so good, get a bit of that relaxing canal vibe.
Well now I have one more place to put on my "someday..." list! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
Soooo pretty! Thanks for taking us there! ❤❤
The architecture in Brugge is absolutely stunning, even glass alley was fun. Eye opening but fun.
I think you guys should just travel, you are such good entertainers. I love these type of videos. Thanks for sharing
The bridge you waited on at 7:53 is a work of art and function. Wow.
These canal boat videos are SUCH a gift!!! Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you both so very much 😊
Your just killing it doing everything on the cheap!
LOVE LOVE this content. Makes for perfect Sunday morning !
It is all very beautiful. I have never been out of the US, so you both posting your adventures are a treat.
Love these videos! I think it's such a unique way to see areas and fun way to experience a completely different culture.
I dont know how you 2 always manage to catch the beauty, the story, and just the life every eere you go. You make my Sunday's something special to look forwards to thank you.
Sunday morning pastry shop, Winn’s, coffee……..thank you!
Jason is so cute and such a bright spark…never change
Love it when you visit places and take us along. The history and stories with such beautiful scenery of Bruges makes for a delightful experience and video. I said this last week but I never knew anyone could just rent a canal boat and it’s such a unique way to experience another country and city. I’m always amazed how fast a 30 minute video from the Wynn’s seems to fly by. Happy holidays to everyone
Best shot: 26:30 - should make this shot more often in walk about vids. Love it.
What a beautiful city - and what a lovely relaxing video - so enjoyable - thank you! Can't wait to see if Ghent beer meets Jason's expectations!
Loving your Canal Boat Tour. Glad you're filling your off the sailboat time with an awesome adventure.
Absolutely loved this video, thanks for sharing and just added this to my bucket list of places to visit, from a friendly Canadian eh LOL
It is so nice seeing the both of you happy, smiling and having fun! ❤
The Brugge tourist board board should hire you guys! Wonderful tour, thank you.
I can’t understand why you are not at 1 million subscribers? Great video guys!
We're long-time boaters, but in 2016, we spent 2 months in a motorhome touring Germany, France, Belgium, and Holland. We stayed in the RV park you passed by and walked along the same path into the old city center :))
This is a trip I would love to take.
Minus the beer, I now think I must go there and do those canals myself. I don't drink so beer isn't exciting, but that looks so beautiful, and all the towers! Wow!
Love Bruges! One Of the best parts of our trip to Europe. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
