I believe like Sunny’s Something, Basil’s Something is suppose to also look like Mari. Specifically her hair lying scattered across the ground after she fell down the stairs.
4 months late but salli looks a bit like a musical note that’s dripping, given what we know about the violin and pressure that might have something to do with it
8:37 Another interpretation that works for Lili, is the description for the Photo of Betrayal from The Truth Sequence. It describes feeling multiple eyes shifting onto Sunny as he and Basil carry Mari's body down the stairs. Then, Lili could represent Sunny's feeling of being watched by ever present invisible witnesses who silently point fingers at you without having any hands. Kind of like that feeling that pops up where a presence silently tells you, "It's your fault - you don't get to be happy or enjoy any of those things after what you've done."
Wow, i never made the modeling clay connection! that's actually super interesting! Also, this video actually made me think about Stranger(s). Canonically, they are the 'other half' of discarded Basils (as one mentions being "split in half" on the same day Sunny left Headspace, presumably when Omori was created). But i think it's interesting to consider that in some ways, they represent guilt, just like Somethings do. Stranger represents the guilt of leaving Basil behind, the guilt of not being a better person and owning up to the truth. A type of guilt that actually pushes Sunny to be better instead of spiraling forever.
NANCI 's stalagmites teeth actually looks more like a hanged something between two trees, and the legs could represent a decapitated person and what does decapitated people get attacked by? Their neck. Where did Mari get hanged? Their neck. And about the cat ears, i think they are more horns, as if it is a monster.
7:00 I think the SOMETHING enemies taking on different shapes and having their names end with the last letter in MARI's name was planned from the start, and Dorothy's name was seen in the 2017 trailer while Merci's is never seen, but appears after Sunny senses something in his house's hallway. (And yeah, the JSON file that can be found in the 2018 demo's files refer to that event as "Mercy Appears".) MARI's name was originally MARY, and there was a cut enemy called MARYONETTE that didn't make it past 2015 concept art. MARY = ABBY (you could call her ABIGAIL), ANGY, CINDY, DOROTHY, LILY, MERCY, NANCY, SALLY MARI = ABBI, ANGI (ANGIE or if you say the full one, ANGELA), DOROTHI, LILI, MERCI, NANCI, SALLI
Sunny's Something seems to be based on the Ushirogami, a youkai that likes to frighten cowardly people by spooking them in mirrors and similar mean but harmless pranks. This not only fits the mirror motif and Sunny's implied Japanese heritage, it also fits with Mari's personality: she was a prankster and especially loved teasing Hero and Sunny. Outside of the Phobia fights (where Sunny's fear is distorting everything), the Something is spooky but ultimately passive and harmless. Hellmari and Mari's Ghost are based on Onryo (think Sadako in "The Ring" or Kayako in "The Grudge"). Hellmari is a more traditional Onryo, a violent vengeful ghost that pursues people who harmed it in life, similar to how the Hellmari apparitions damage you in Blackspace 2. Mari's white ghost is the inverse of an Onryo. She's trying to help Sunny but his guilt and fear turns her into these monsters
Interestingly Angi has unused sprites for emotions, despite being immune to emotions. They also get excluded from foe facts, which is weird as Hush puppies, another creepy enemy that opposes Headspace in it's purpose is still listed.
ANGI's CRUNCH attack would've also ignored defenses if it was any level of angry, hitting harder when pissed. But immunity to feeling emotion makes these marines easier to take out. DOROTHI and NANCI would've been able to make themselves happy and angry, respectively, but they are also immune to emotions.
I think lilli could represent the feeling of being watched and judged often induced by guilt, perhaps similar to the nervousness that basil experiences as a result of his own. Also a little unsure of this interpretation, but i think the bottom segment of salli resembles a hand pretty closely, possibly relating to similar themes of being judged?
Water Walkway would probably tie into SUNNY's thalassophobia, and he disliked himself so much that he accepted his eventual fate. How is claiming his sister's life in blind rage a token of appreciation for being saved from drowning, SUNNY? Cloud Walkway and the Black Space forests would tie into SUNNY's fears of heights and spiders.
something i thought of when you said 16 eyes for lily/lili is that the 17th step from the little somethings is what gets rid of them, and you also mentioned how it looks like a mix of them.
Could this also have to do with Mari's age when she died? 'Cause if I remember correctly, she was 16, which would make the 17th step killing the little somethings a reminder of how Mari died before reaching age 17.
The tiny Somethings on the ground are called "Little Basils" in the game's code. It's also implied through the code and location that the censored tofu snack Hero makes in Blackspace 2 is made from these Little Basils. So this being a punishment for Basil seeking out the Truth fits. Stranger is such a fascinating character. On the surface level, he's simply Sunny's guilty conscience, but there are subtle clues that he might be loosely connected to Real World Basil, especially in the Hikikomori route where Sunny never meets Basil. ("My thoughts will follow you into your dreams")
The main Somethings (excluding Basil's Something and the imaginary friends in the Hikikomori route) seem to be directly linked to Mari's ghost. The Something transforms into Ghost Mari right before we fight Something in the Walls. The first thing Sunny sees after fighting Something in the Water is Mari's long hair (which that Something resembles). Something in the Dark's insta-kill blow is cypher for "I love you" (1-4-3). The Something transforms into the 3 phobias and Mari's corpse during the Truth sequence. Hellmari turns into the Something in the Hikikomori route. Headspace Mari turns into Ghost Mari at the docks. Its very consistant and the only creatures that transform like this are all linked to Mari (including her white ghost). It also recontextualizes Mari's guidance during the Phobia fights and the Something's "Sunny, I love you" dialogue in Blackspace. Sunny's guilt and implied fear of Mari's ghost has literally turned her into a monster, when she's actually trying to help him. It could also imply that Mari shunning you in BS2's "Mari is Home" room and Headspace Mari adding herself and the Something to the Blackspace Boss Rush is Mari's patience running out. She's pressing the Nuclear button to wake Sunny tf up and stop him from commiting suicide (metaphorically and literally).
ah, you couldve put the images against a white background. as black images against a black sky isnt as visible. but otherwise, this is good analysis of the somethings.
I believe like Sunny’s Something, Basil’s Something is suppose to also look like Mari. Specifically her hair lying scattered across the ground after she fell down the stairs.
Hadn't considered that, mainly cause sunny saw it too
I ended up seeing Basil's Something as also a bit of a tree stump. A stump that's eating Basil alive with the web of hair.
"How many Basils are there in Black Space!?"
Too many, my man, too many.
Four years of dreaming, remembering and forgetting is a long time
sunny is the most relatable character for all the wrong reasons
4 months late but salli looks a bit like a musical note that’s dripping, given what we know about the violin and pressure that might have something to do with it
5:56 If you want to be a super nerd about it, in the map file the strangers in the black space hub use Kel's appearance.

Thank you for blessing us with something actually new that’s related to OMORI
i know its a coincidence, but the fact you have 1.43k subs adds a bit imo because 143 is an important number in omori also nice vid
143 means I love you
I heard someone somewhere theorize Salli to be a tree, and I really like that.
you're so underated it hurts me sm
I loved the idea of something when i played it, even tho it scared me xD i think its a great visual metaphor

I just realized that if you look at abbi or abby sideways it looks like a shadow version of a human

Angie also inhabits the Docks in black space 2. Whatever that may mean.

I haven’t played OMORI yet but it seems like it’s telling you to tell the truth and quote "make your something disappear" aka your guilt
something i thought of when you said 16 eyes for lily/lili is that the 17th step from the little somethings is what gets rid of them, and you also mentioned how it looks like a mix of them.
also for nancy/nanci, it looks like the mouth has the mari hair shaped something mixed in instead of spikes

you should’ve called the excluded somethings “something elses”

awesome ... great work 😎👍
I'd write a bad pun here...
But *Something* tells me not to.

9:53 It looks like HellMari
11:51 What about Hell Mari?
lily looks like a lotus pod :skull:
i thought salli was a knife lol
