    Love this follow up. I am at 98 hours on my LGT 2654 and its running great. Like you, we don’t just cut grass - also some fairly rough (mostly flat) terrain. Since it’s about to turn over 100 hours, I am doing a lot of maintenance and parts replacement to show it some love, and your videos are so helpful. Thank you!

    .....Dennis....You're a Good Reviewer....and you have given all of us a solid idea of just how much thick brush we can attempt with this little mower....lots of us out here would be afraid to tackle some of those vines and small saplings.....AND......I AM STUNNED THE TIRES HAVE HELD-UP SO WELL....usually the tires are some of the most frustrating components on riding mowers.....THANK YOU...!!!!!

      HI Donald and thank you so much for watching and for your comments. I've had a few commenters say that they've had trouble with the tires on their mower, but much to my satisfaction, I have not had any. I did just break a weld on the mower deck of mine from hitting a stump...not the tractor's fault, but my own. But otherwise, I've not had any problems with the junk I cut. :) Thanks again!

    Thanks for the follow up video. I'm in the market for my 1st riding mower. I've read a lot of reviews and watched some other videos, s well as yours. I feel a lot more confident that this is the mower I want. I don't have anything near to the terrain you do, so it should breeze through my yard. Thanks again!

    It is surprising to hear a positive review of Husqvarna lawn tractors after reading so many 1Star reviews earlier in the day. I will inherit one like yours from my father in-law tomorrow; this acquisition brought with it a considerable mount of curiosity as to the reliability of their tractor products. I have had some trouble with Husqvarna lawn trimmers but something about the brand is alluring; I think it is the motor power. Anyway, I applaud your delight in the tractor and hope that I enjoy mine as well. I heard about the mounting brackets on the deck, plastic parts in the transmission, and it all sound terribly miserable. Dennis, I am glad that you are having a satisfactory experience!

    Good to hear it has held up....I am trying to help a friend figure out why his seems to be slipping in gear, I'm sure he doesn't have as many hours as yours. I will ask him to check that hydrostatic relief switch/rod sticking out the back, perhaps he bumped/caught on his leaf bagging system....

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  6 років тому

      Yes, he should definitely check that rod....if it is pulled out at all, it could cause the slipping. Also, there is an initial bleeding procedure for the transmission detailed in the owner's manual. He may need to do that, if it hasn't been done before....could be some air in the tranny. Thanks for watching!

      +Dennis Coffey Do you have problems with the belt guards getting full of grass on the deck. After changing the oil and filter today I'm tempted to just leave all the plastic off the thing to make it easier to maintain. It seems to be a decent tractor but the time spent on maintenance is crazy. The wheel bearings look totally dry as well, I'm wondering if the factory put anything in them. I noticed somebody said they lost a wheel and that might be why. Anyway, just found your channel, thanks for your time doing the reviews.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  8 років тому

      +Rick James Hi Rick, thanks for the comments and for watching. I haven't had any trouble at all with my wheels or the wheel bearings, etc, although I have had a couple of folks comment that they have. As for the grass accumulating under the deck....yes that is one thing that I haven't thought to mention, but could definitely be improved. I've been able to just rinse it all out with a regular nozzle on my garden hose, so it hasn't been a problem to me at all. But I do think the design of the guards could be a bit better, and allow for easier access to flush the grass clippings out. If it was a tad more open around the guards somehow, the wind and movement of the pulleys might actually knock most of it out while cutting.

    Hey Dan,I really appreciate the review. I just got this tractor last week and I am in love with it! The salesperson at Lowes told me to use Non-ethanol gas. Since you're over 100 hrs., can you please share your wisdom and tell me what's you use to fill up the tank?

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  7 років тому

      Hey Henry, We should probably all be using non-ethanol gas on mowers, outboards, string trimmers, etc. Ethanol in the gas will eventually destroy any rubber tubing, gaskets, and the like. I do not use non-ethanol gas, but only because I'm lazy.......we live out in the country and the closest non-ethanol pump to me is about 30 miles. I just don't want to drive that far to get the gas, so I'm taking my chances. There will definitely come a day when I will have to replace fuel lines, etc, but I don't think it will be a terrible job. So far, no problems however.

    Hi Dennis. Thank you. We found that the mulching blades leave a trail of cut grass under the center of the tractor- and some clumping. Any idea why that would be? Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  8 років тому

      +Maria Gianas Hi Maria, I'm not sure what could be causing that...I have mostly centipede, so usually very few worries with cutting it, but it doesn't get very tall. I wonder if the mulching blades can't handle the height of grass you are taking off? Or.....do you cut with the tractor at full throttle? If not, that will affect the quality of cut too.

  • @loveDtwelve
    @loveDtwelve 8 років тому +1

    Great follow up review Dennis. Thanks! I was waiting for the pet where you talk about mulching blades vs. regular...did you decide not to try the mulching blades and if so, why not? We have tried both and are having a household debate as to which are better. thanks!

      @dwcoffey  8 років тому +1

      +Maria Gianas Hi Maria, I've put 2 sets of mulching blades on my tractor since buying it. For my lawn, which is centipede grass, I think they cut the clippings finer than the bagging blades. The quality of the cut seems to be about the same, although I've only had one set of bagging blades, so I don't have a ton of experience with them. Maybe that's a good idea for another video...compare and contrast mulching blades vs bagging blades. :)
      But I don't use a bag, so I wouldn't be able to compare how they perform with a bag attachment. What have your experiences with different blades been?

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  4 роки тому +3

      Thank you for watching and for the comment! Year-round, I put Sta-bil fuel stabilizer in my gas cans when I fill them up, so my fuel is already prepped for winter time. Now I enjoy nice weather for 10-11 months out of the year, so my winter is not very long or severe. But...Sta-Bil will take care of over-wintering fuel. If I had long winters and had to put my tractor up for months, I'd run all the fuel out and store it dry. That's what I do with my tiller.

Position your tires so the valve stem is at or near the top. Leave a bit of room for air so you can adjust the inflation of your tires when necessary.

    Hi Dennis, I like your videos. I have the Husqvarna YTA22V46. Same Briggs and Stratton engine as yours and the hydrostatic automatic transmission. I bought it in 2017 and have approximately 160 hours on it. I blow it off, including the top of the cutting deck, after each use and it's stored in an enclosed shed. It's not abused. All that said, I've had nothing but issues with the hydrostatic transmission. Because of a poor design, grass and leaf clippings go to the rear of the tractor and pile up under the pulley that they drive and transmission belt attaches to. The accumulated debris reduces the speed in which the tractor will move forward. To get to the debris, you have to remove the battery and the battery case from under the seat and use either a leaf blower or compressed air to clean the debris out. Also, debris piles up on the ledge near the steering gear. This prevents the brake mechanism from fully disengaging which prevents the tension pulley from applying full tension to the transmission's belt. From the day I bought this lawn tractor, I've had an issue with the linkage for the pedal that makes the tractor go forward and backward getting stuck and hung up. The top speed for this tractor is supposed to be around 7 mph. This year I'm lucky to see 3 mph at full throttle. Thinking the issue was a stretched drive belt, I just had that belt replaced. The person that replaced the belt also made sure that the area around the pulley and transmission was clean of debris. Even with a new belt, I do not get any speed from the tractor with the pedal fully pressed and the engine at full throttle. It takes me forever to cut a lawn. I don't sense the belt is slipping, it's just doesn't move fast. The transmissions on these Husqvarna, and other, lawn tractors with an automatic transmission is the General Transmission RS800. And ideas on what you think it might be? Thanks.

      Thanks, Dennis. I just watched #9 in the referenced video. I'll give it a try and let you know how it worked out. Do you ever experience getting all that debris back on the transmission, including under that rear pulley? Do you have to remove the battery and battery case to clean out the area, or do you have a simpler way to do it? Thanks.

      I don't get too much junk up there, but when I cut very dry grass I will get some. I've blown it out with compressed air or just gotten in there with the hose nozzle and blasted it out. I have not experienced the build up that you have.

      Hi Dennis, I returned home from my trip to Florida and purged the transmission as instructed in your video. I found the freewheeling control arm difficult to engage and disengage. I heard the click when I pulled the rod out, but when I went to push it in, the metal rod would bend, but I didn't hear it click to engage. That said, I was able to get on the tractor and the tractor did go forward and backward. Even after purging the transmission, the top end speed of the lawn tractor did not increase. I reached out to Husqvarna via the link on their website and made them aware of the issue I was having and how I've experienced issues with the transmission since I purchased the unit. To their credit and to my surprise, even though my unit is five years old, Husqvarna has authorized the lawn tractor to be repaired by a local authorized Husqvarna repair facility at Husqvarna's expense. I can't ask for much more than that.

    Hi Dennis. Thanks For the review. I have the same model. My neighbor offered to give me his 28 inch deck from his YTH24V48.
    Would it be okay to put on the 2 inch bigger deck? Or would that harm the engine?

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching, David. If the bigger deck will fit, belt lines up etc....I think the 22hp engine has plenty of power to pull the slightly bigger deck. You might see it struggle if you're cutting high, thick grass, but on a normal lawn, it should be more than enough.

    Hello Dennis, quick question. I just bought my Husqvarna motor similar to yours. Looked at numerous videos and read manual like 10 times now. Called Husqvarna, they referred me to dealer near my area. MY QUESTION: How do I engage the mower blades ? Do I need to engage the clutch/brake pedal when engaging ? what speed should I be in when engaging? Should I engage them with the mower off ? The reason I ask ... brand new mower. and runs fine, but when I try to engage blades there is a grinding type sound, so I don't engage fully, 1/2 way and then grinding starts, then release is this normal? Thank you.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  6 років тому +1

      Hey Lance, thanks for watching. If your mower is like mine, I have a mechanical engagement lever right behind the steering wheel. It is attached to a cable that runs down to the deck (see my video showing how to remove the deck - ua-cam.com/video/T_N9qre4xq4/v-deo.html) The cable and spring gives tension to the engagement lever. You should be able to push the lever counterclockwise until it sets and engage the blades any time, without depressing the brake. You should not hear any grinding when the blades are engaged, only the blades turning. I would lower the deck with the mower off and inspect the deck belt path, make sure nothingis rubbing where it shouldn't be. Then I'd check to be sure you don't have a bent or loose blade. If not, I'd remove the deck , remove the deck belt, and check the spindles for noise when turning each one.

    Hi Dennis, after about 50 hours did your Oil Can symbol show up on your hour meter? I have checked and changed the oil and this reminder keeps coming up. I wasn't sure if it is an auto reminder for changing oil/filter.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  8 років тому

      Hi Brett, mine did not, but I understand some of them do this. The hour meter will display a "CHG OIL" message from 50 - 52 hours, from 100 - 102 hours, etc...every fifty hours. It is programmed as a reminder at every 50 hours, regardless of when the last oil change occurred. The message will display for 2 hours of 'on' time and then go away. I do not believe there is a method for resetting the change oil message. You basically have to wait until you get to 52 hours and it will stop.

    Hey Dennis, I love your videos and have used a number of them to work on my own YTH22V46. I’m a fairly handy guy, but I’ve lost my headlights on my YTH, and can’t seem to figure out the problem. I have no voltage on the line that goes to the headlights. Any thoughts?

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  2 роки тому

      Hey Jeff, thanks for watching! I'd pull the bulbs first and make sure there is no dirt buildup inside the sockets. Coming off your headlight wiring harness, you should have a brown wire and a black wire. I'd turn the light switch to 'on' and test across those first to see if you have 12-14 volts. If you do have voltage there, the problem is likely the sockets or the bulbs. If you don't, then check the ground connection on the black wire, it may be disconnected, rusted, etc. If all that checks out, I'd check the light switch for voltage...check across the orange wire to ground. If you have voltage there, but not on the brown/black pair, the light switch is bad. Let me know if all that checks out and we'll go from there.

      Hi Eddie, it's hard to say without being able to see and hear the tractor. I'm not home at the moment to check this, but if I recall correctly, there is a process outlined in the owner's manual for initially beginning to use the tractor. I believe that process includes 'burping' the hydraulic system.....check your manual for that and make sure it applies. Sounds like the problem could be air in the hydraulics. I'll try my best to check it tonight when I get home too.

    My Husqvarna...YTH22v46 arrived without any lube in the front wheel bearings...or in the front spindles. After about 10 hours, they were screaming every time I turned left or right. I bought a grease gun and lubed all four zirk fittings...twice just to get enough grease in them to stop the squealing. I have since added more grease. And, if you didn't know it, your pulley spindles on your deck had zirk fittings and also need to be lubed.
    Also, my oil drain valve on the engine block was loose. I haven't figured out a solution for tightening it...since it's so low in the engine block. When I tried to rotate it left to open it during my first oil change...the whole assembly rotated. The leak can best be described as a small drip. I check my oil before each use and didn't notice any exceptional usage...so, the leak is very small...but annoying.....
    All in all, I like my mower...but have to wonder about the quality assurance during assembly.
    Anyways...hope this helps.

    Hello, Dennis. I (also a "dennis") am a new viewer(now subscriber) to your channel. I have same model (but do not have "cruise control" I do not believe).
    I have viewed several if your videos and will be installing new spindles (purchased) soon, I hope.
    Quick question: can you install brighter LED bulbs in these headlight housings? If so, what do you recommend? As I rev up engine lights get brighter. I assume that is normal.
    Secondly, I believe my tractor remains under 3 year warranty until March '22. I have alot of play in steering wheel. Do you know if that is covered by Husq warranty?
    Lastly, I am not as fortunate as you - I have several rips in seat. Are you aware of more durable after market replacement seat? I don't care what it looks like, even if it has a higher back.
    Thank you.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  2 роки тому

      Hey Dennis, thanks for watching! I tried some LED bulbs and they worked a little bit better, but the problem is the way Husqvarna wired the lights. I understand what they were thinking, trying to avoid running down the battery, but I think they could have done better. I have not done this yet, but probably will in the future: The lights are wired to the generator, so their brightness is determined by engine speed. I think the lights should be wired to the battery, thru the key switch (so you can't inadvertently leave them on). That will give a constant brightness and then should work much better with LED bulbs. I would think they'd cover the steering wheel bushing under warranty. I have a video showing how to replace that bushing, if you are interested. I have not found a decent replacement seat, other than buying an OEM seat...and they ain't cheap! So...mine has since gotten a few tears in it, but I'm living with it because I don't want to pay for another seat. :) Thank you for subscribing to my channel!!

    I have the 24v48. great mower. i only have about half as many hours. only thing I really wish was that some of the accessories were cheaper. ie why is it that a plastic tube and bagger attachment is like 300-400$? just stupid to me. would be nice to find a good aerator and rake for it, that isn't super ridiculous expensive too.
    do you run any fuel additives? I found my carb was getting kinda gummy nasty using standard fuel pump gas (E10 is standard here, hate it) so i've been running a tad bit of seafoam and Sta-Bil to clear it up. runs great now. it says not to use E10, but I don't really have a choice unless I want to drive about 3 hours to the nearest out of state non-E10 station, grab some 100LL from an aviation fuel pump (at around 7-8$ a gallon) or pay the ridiculous price they want for the pre-packaged stuff at the hardware store, i believe thats like 10$ for a half gallon or so?
    guess I didn't read the manual all the way, didn't know you could set the parking brake and get off of it like that. also nice to see how you kind of "abuse it" i'm kind of rough with mine as well, but having seen the areas you clear makes me feel a bit better. also having taken the deck off, i'm fairly confident that if anything went wrong the belt/pulley system would take the brunt of it and prevent any damage. my wife did get one of those dog leads tangled up in it, and it just turned itself off. note if you have this happen, just take the blades off instead of trying to untangle it. once the blades come off it just unravels.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  7 років тому

      Thanks so much for watching and sharing some great comments! I agree....once something gets caught up around the blade spindles, the best thing to do is just take off the blades and get it out.
      I haven't had any trouble with mine running badly, but, I always pout Sta-Bil in my gas cans when I fill them up. If I were to have any issues, I'd put a half-can or so of Seafoam in a full tank. Beyond that, I'd probably try spraying some carb cleaner into the carb, and also check the fuel filter. Briggs website says that you can run E10, just nothing with higher than 10% ethanol, so you should be ok there. Thanks again!!

I filled the back tire almost all the way up with antifreeze and water, then topped them to 10psi with air. That helped a lot. Now, unless my grass is pretty wet, I don't have any traction issues. There's plenty of power to get up a hill, its just the lawn tires that don't give the greatest traction.

    I've had my YTH22V46 for three years. I like a few things about it and hate a few things about it. I'd never buy another Husqvarna riding mower, because you can't raise the blade higher than 3.75 inches. I have a 19 year-old Poulan Pro 42 inch cut, with 20 HP Intek engine that runs circles around my Husqvarna. I can raise the blade on the Prolan above the ground six inches.
    Problems with Husqvarna mower: I cannot raise the mowing deck high enough. I've tried everything but buy bigger tires. Hard to start. I've changed plugs, air filter, fuel filter and only run ethanol-free gasoline with stabilizer. The fuel supply is fine. The spark is fine. Fuel squirts from the fuel line if I disconnect it from the carburetor. I have to crank forever and then charge the battery with a charger to try a second time to start the damn thing if it sits more than a week.
    What I like: The Husqvarna cuts fine at 3.75 inches and 3 inches. I Sharpen my blades every twenty-five hours of use. Love the hydrostatic transmission. The frame and chassis are well made. The seat is comfortable. I have to mow one long sloped hillside that is a little hairy. Scary is a better way to describe it. I feel like the mower might roll over any minute. The Husqvarna is more stable on that slope than the Prolan. Not sure why. The slope is like that picture they include in the user manual that says never mow on a slope like this. The wheels have never come off the ground with the Husqvarna. I have to lean over hard toward the hill side to mow it, but it works. I used to mow it with a walk behind mower, but I can mow the slope with the Husqvarna okay. The daredevil comes out me when it gets 100 degrees outside.
    I paid $1600 for the Husqvarna three years ago. I paid $2000 for the Poulan Pro 19 years ago. The Poulan mower has never failed to start. I've replaced the front tires, several blades due to hitting racks and roots, replaced the gas tank, spark plugs, air and fuel filters. On my third battery. Last battery purchased in 2005. The Poulan Pro has a hydrostatic drive but has a handle on the right side to control speed. I have a trailer I often use with it. It has pulled a six hundred pound load of dirt up a 40 degree incline driveway with no problem. The old Prolan Pro is one tough lawn tractor. Worth every dime I paid for it.
    I change the oil and filters in my four mowers every twenty-five hours. I use Pennzoil full synthetic 5W30. I order oil and air filters from Amazon. I change air and oil filters at every oil change. I mow three acres of rough terrain at my cabin and one acre at my main residence.
    If I could raise the blade on the Husqvarna high enough to use it at the cabin and it would start on the first try, I'd be fine with it. If you have some rough terrain and need to cut six inches above the ground, the Husqvarna is not going to be able to do that. At maximum blade height, the cut is only 3.75 inches. All three of my older mowers start right up, even if they sit for weeks. The Husqvarna is the only mower I've ever owned that was hard to start.
    I know how to maintain small engines. I own four mowers, a twenty-year-old chainsaw, three gasoline generators that are over fifteen years old, and a six HP outboard boat engine on my sailboat. All of them have never failed to start on my first try, except the Husqvarna.
    Maybe I got a lemon. I hope the rest of you have had better luck with your Husqvarna mowers.
    If anyone else has experienced the hard-to-start problem and solved it, please tell me what you did. I would be grateful.

      Hi Jack, thank you for watching and for your info. I agree with you......the two most common complaints I see are hard starting and not enough range on the height adjustment. I wish they would adjust to a higher cut also. I am very rough on mine but because the deck must be kept so low, the deck has really taken a beating. I have had similar experiences with my older 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines. I've got an old Homelite XL12 chainsaw and a Sears Gamefisher 3.5 hp outboard for my sailboat.....they are both 1970s engines, both start and run just fine. I completely understand what you are saying. I do not have a good solution (yet) to the hard starting problem.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  5 років тому

      Hey Jason, thanks for watching. I have not....my understanding is that the trans-axle is sealed and not serviceable. Of course anything is serviceable, one way or another, but I haven't tried to get into mine. The manual states that is is only serviceable by the factory. Make sure your engage/disengage lever in the back of the tractor is pushed in fully. That could allow the trans-axle to have some internal bypass and affect the tractor's movement.

I got an adapter and nearly filled the back tires with anti-freeze/water mix. Now I seldom have a traction problem due to the added weight. Other than that, I haven't had any issue covering my property with this tractor. Thanks for the comments and I hope your new one work out well!!

    Dennis I purchased a Husqvarna YTH22V46 22-HP just like yours from Lowe's near the end of April 2018 still in the crate. Didn't start using it until a few weeks ago Mid May. Only reason being I still have my old almost 20 year old MTD Yardman that I still use on occasion. Love the Husqvarna so far but I am having a problem with the seat wobbling left to right. Don't like the feeling when driving the tractor. Saw that Lowes has a sticker on the back of the tractor stating to call a 800 number 24 hours a day for questions, parts or service repair. My patience wore pretty thin yesterday June 7th. Called the number during the afternoon and there is no one to speak to about any questions you have on the tractor. What a waste of a sticker. Disappointing. Right away I started hitting 000 on the phone and got a operator and she confirmed there is no one there that you can talk to if you had a question about the tractor. She suggested that she connect me with Husqvarna direct. Well same thing at that number no one to talk to. No troubleshooter to explain my problem to. Called customer service at the phone number I found online and got a call from the manager of the Lowes Store I purchased the tractor from today. Explained my problem so he had me speak to someone in the Lawn Tractor department. He went over to one of the YTH22V46 22-HP and the 42" sitting right next to it on the floor. Both of those seats wobbled left to right. He also now believes there is a problem and said that he would try to get in touch with Husqvarna. My question here is for anyone who owns this same tractor who comes across my post. Are you having the same problem? Dennis have you noticed anything? If you put both hands on the seat standing behind the tractor you can move the seat from front left back. You can't on the right side. You feel this in your backside when driving it cutting the lawn. Did you notice anything? If not I believe that maybe Husqvarna may of left a bushing out on these later YTH22V46 22-HP Tractors. Hope I can get some answers here on Dennis's You Tube page. Just so everyone knows the Paperwork that comes with the Tractor is just about useless. Nothing showing a picture of the seat and the parts for it in case you needed to order parts for it. Saw a few weeks ago that a manual for the tractor is available online for you to download. I did that but nothing in the manuel like you would see with other Lawn Equipment I have purchased in that past with a exploded view and parts used and part numbers. If they would of least had that maybe I could see if everything is there like it is suppose to be. Better yet Husqvarna should have a Trouble Shooter one you can talk to if need be.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  6 років тому +1

      I haven't had any problem with my seat. This may help though: Go to www.husqvarna.com/us/support/manuals-downloads/ Enter YTH22V46 in the 'Product' field, then on the left side you'll see 'Manuals, Operator's Manuals and Spare Parts Lists' Click on 'Spare Parts Lists' and download the first one. That has an exploded parts view of the seat mount, etc on page 17. That may at least give you an idea of what bolts to check etc. You may be able to look under the seat as you move it and determine what is moving, whether it's the mount or not. There may be a flaw in the seat itself...I believe it is an integral unit they buy from somebody else.

    • @ffas23
      @ffas23 6 років тому +1

      Thanks Dennis I like that link you sent me for the Spare Parts List and the way it is blown up like I use to see on other models of Tractors years back. Its something that is really needed by the Lawn Tractor Owner but not provided with the Tractor by Husqvarna with the tractor today. You have to download it instead. Rediculous. Looking at that page it shows the 2 bolts and other hardware I see under the seat on my tractor. Took a 9/16" box wrench to them to tighten them up some but it made no difference on my own earlier in the week before reading this. Going to need to speak to someone at Husqvarna if there is a person to speak too. I truly believe there is a factory defect on mine in that area of the seat. Right now even Lowes has no answers for me. Was just curious to see if there are any other complaints of the same in the mean time. Going to download that spare parts list right now and print it out and attach it to the Manual I downloaded 2 weeks ago I have sitting in a 1 inch 3 ring binder. Thought that info would of been in the Manual I downloaded but it wasn't. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
