Use the old bushing as a bearing driver. Remove the seal of the bearing first. You might be surprised at what little grease is in there. Add more high temp bearing grease. Done.

Really great video and most helpful. However, I was able to replace the new bearing kit without taking the tire off. Less time and effort with tire on.

You can use a socket that's big enough to fit around the edge of your bearing. It'll help when tapping it in place.

    I blast
Those out all the time with the tire on !
    I utilize a 3/8" ratchet extension for punch and a 3# hammer .

John Deere is the same way- front wheel bushings.
After researching the topic I am going to replace my bushings with more bushings. My spindles are trash and need replaced. My left front is the worst of the two. I ordered a replacement kit on amazon that has both spindles and 4 new bushings with new clips and washers and wheel caps( all made in the USA).
These front lawn tractor wheels take a real beating going around the yard and I neglected to grease on a regular basis.
The reason I am not going with a ball bearing kit is because I saw a couple of videos where the ball bearings disintegrated due to the heavy beating load the front wheels take on these tractors. The bearing races cant take the excessive force and the balls come out of the bearings. I could be wrong but I believe this is the engineering behind the bushings in the first place-- instead of using ball bearings for this application. Also very low speed metal on metal, if greased will last( I guess). Mine are 17 years old at 475 hours of use mowing 0.75 acre yard.

After over a year with bearings on my Husqvarna I'll never go back to bushings. I use my tractor every day and yes the front end takes a lot of stress but I have had no issues. Best of luck to you and thanks for the input.

Will I need to grease the spindle and bearings with this upgrade kit?

    • @CycleFab
      @CycleFab  3 роки тому +1

It's always a good idea to grease the spindles when ever you introduce a new bearing. These bearings appear to be sealed juging by the way they are designed and feel. Thanks for watching!

    Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I have a Husqvarna YTH-20K46. How do I determine which set of replacement bearings will work for my mower?
    Thanks in advance.

Sometimes burrs will be on your axles because of wear with the original bushings. You'll have to knock those burrs off with a file or abrasive cloth.

My 3 acres are FULL of potholes, and slamming into them continually
destroys the bushings. Will ball bearings fare any better?
I want to hear from someone who changed them out 5 years ago,
and are glad they did. Not criticizing, just want to know LONG TERM
    results.

If you fill the wheel with grease after you are finished the job, the new bearing can never dry out and they will last longer than the mower.

Really this isn’t rocket science folks. If you have any basic tools and some mechanical skills, it’s easy and a good hack. BTW I use a large socket to tap the bearings in. Works great. Another good upgrade is the poor-man’s power steering kit. Google it. You’re welcome y’all.
