The Japanese during WW2 absolutely used tactics like playing dead, having snipers in the trees, banzai charges, etc. The Pacific Theater would have been hell on earth. The enemy themselves were the epitome of fanatical and almost never surrendered, committed some of the most unspeakable atrocities in human history on enemy forces, POWs, and civilians alike (it’s almost unbelievable how evil some of the stuff was), and were experts at guerilla tactics. Then there was the environment. Heat in the triple digits (Farenheit), oppressive humidity, the storms that come with those conditions, many different tropical diseases, and a wide variety of wildlife (including crocodiles in some places). Fighting in the Pacific would have been unimaginably awful.
@terminallumbago6465 I can see why they wouldn't surrender, they had propaganda saying the Allies were inhumane beasts who would tarnish their honour and afterlife. Of course some allied soldiers were inhumane, there's always war crimes at war (I'm canadian so we got our share). It would be like surrendering to an Orc in a fantasy game. For sure that shot was good, would have been nice if you missed because the ai on that sniper is really interesting. He will switch windows and use a helmet as a decoy
No wonder Reznov wants revenge considering the absolute brutalities that happened on the Eastern Front in World War 2. Stalingrad was one of the most brutal battles in history. Around 27 million Soviets died where aroud 19 million were civilian deaths that starved, were murdered or were just generally casulties of war. Belarus lost a quarter of its population where 600 villages with their entire population wera annihilated by the Axis occupation force. The SS was mainly responsible for this but the Wehrmact definetly wasn't clean either. They committed plenty of crimes aswell like starving Soviet prisoners of war, robbing civilian villages for food which left the villagers with very little food. Also the commessar order which was to execute political officers. Reznov is brutal but understandably so.
@@cp368productions2 That is exactly why he wanted revenge. The Germans murdered his people in cold blood including his father. On the Eastern Front, the Germans had more liberty in the way they could wage war. Resulting in their brutal methods of dealing with prisoners and civilians since the soviets didn’t recognize the rules of war the Allies had.
This game is the epitome of this quote from the movie _Fury_ : "Wait until you see it." "See what?" "What a man can do to another man." Dmitri the absolute unit, firing a 6 ft. long, 20lb. antitank rifle from the shoulder...

It foreshadowed that Reznov never trusted him because his men got crushed at the fountain square at the beginning of the mission after believing Dragovich would send help. Help indeed never came
Treyarch had to prove they had what it took after playing it extremely safe with Cod 3. The decision to focus on the most horrid theaters of WWII is inspired, and the games dedication to showing this authentically (if not completely accurately to history) is frankly amazing. The Japanese were brutal, fanatical, they would never surrender and even the wounded would try and detonate grenades and take Americans with them. The HBO mini series The Pacific showcases this part of the war as accurately as possible following real marines who served. The Eastern front is perhaps the most horrible place and time in all of human history. Soviet and Nazi war crimes listed out would stretch a mile long. It was a war of ideology fought between evil fascists and communists, neither of which can be called good.
That's the darkest and most gritty Cod ever made. And one of my favourites. I felt like I was watching WW2 documentarry instead of game, especially during cutscenes. And the music is brutal. Brutally awesome. This game has R rating not only for gore or language. The player has to be matured enough to understand and appreciate the history. That's the closest we will get to a war through a game probably. Unless Bo6 will deliver something more shocking (but I doubt).

So some historical background for each of these missions you play through. Mission 1: You play as the Marine Raiders, they’re like America’s version of the Royal Marines Commandos. The Operation that takes place is called the Makin Raid. The 2nd Marine Raider Battalion launched from LCRL (Rubber boats) from submarines through rough seas and high surf. The Marines were met with heavy resistance, encountering Japanese snipers and Banzai attacks. Unfortunately that surf was still heavy and 11 out of the 18 boats made it back to the submarines. The survivors struggled to shore, where they tried to regroup with the other armed Marines who didn’t try to go into the water. There were a total of 11 MIA on the island 9 were captured and executed by the Japanese commander. The other 2 were never found. Mission 2: The Battle of Peleliu, ironically called Operation Stalemate II, where the 1st Marine Division discovered how hard the Japanese were going to fight for a single island. You’re playing as what I assume is the 7th Marine Regiment landing on Orange 3. The Japanese gave heavy resistance on the beach, Marines were caught in a crossfire the only escape was forward. Orange Beach 3 in particular had a lot of man made obstacles and trenches. Which hindered the tracks, it wasn’t a coral reef you got stuck on. The Japanese had actually learned from the Battle of Tarawa when the US Marine Tractors harmlessly rolled over the coral as the Japanese watched in horror. After capturing the Airfield the 7th moved North and took out the field guns. Then the 7th held the airfield although remained under sustain Japanese fire from Umurbrogol Mountain. Then came “Bloody Nose Ridge” which the Marines of the 7th suffered a 46% casualty rate (that means both wounded and dead) The Marines would finally break the Japanese defenders a month later. Mission 3: The Battle of Stalingrad, was one of the major turning points of the War. So Germany had been kicking the Soviet’s ass up to this point. Committing pretty much every war crime imaginable along the way. Germany needed several things from Stalingrad. 1. They had access and could cut off traffic in the Volga River 2. They had control of a Major Railway junction 3. This was the gateway to the Caucus oil fields which Germany desperately. You see because Nazis are fucking stupid they decided to invade the world without enough fuel so they needed that gas. First Stalingrad was bombarded by the Luftwaffe (German Air Force). The Soviets were throwing everything they could, keeping the Nazis out of the city. The Nazis eventually reached the city but failed to cross and gain a foothold on the other side of the Volga. The Soviets employed tactics what I can only describe as cruel, Stalin issues the infamous order No.277 “All commanders who ordered unauthorized retreats will be subject to military tribunal.” Blocking Detachments made up of the NKVD (the secret police/military police) would shoot retreating soldiers, commissars would execute anyone deemed a “coward”. The streets were no longer measured in meters, but in corpses as one German officer said. Fires raged through the city; men and women fought in the sewers, in basements, through dilapidated buildings. It was brutal urban fighting for months. Constant air attacks and finally. Relief came and Zhukov’s Army Group had shown up to relieve the city. Several months of fighting continued, until the German 6th Army became surrounded. They fought until they were too exhausted, weak, ill, wounded, or dead. It was one of the deadliest battles of the war. Mission 4: The Battle of Seelow Heights, this was the opening phase of the Battle of Berlin. Seelow Heights was a suburb of Berlin. The Opening of the Battle saw a massive artillery barrage 9,000 artillery pieces fired 500,000 shells for 30mins. The Soviets advanced across the swampy land until they were halted by a German Counter-barrage. Zhukov then pulled his ultimate trick…throw more men at the problem until it goes away. The Soviets then advanced with heavy losses. They did not care, they were in Germany and it was revenge at any cost.

Yeah this game doesn't pull punches when it comes to the horrors of war. There's also theories that this game doesn't have a remake because it's anti-war.
This was the first cod and first game I played on the 360. It sparked a whole interest in military history. Lots of very good memories playing this game.
One of the best, if not, THE best campaign of the COD series. I still play it and I've learnt more about history from playing these campaigns of COD 1, 2, 3 and WaW AND Black Ops!
Even though world at war have their own story but Reznov does play big role for both this game and black ops, which i wish people play this game first before black ops because it can help them to understand his motivation
Choices matter(enemies you kill, your brutality), listen to the dynamic between chernov and reznov(forshadowing). Chernov is writing about you and your actions. Keep playing because you stopped just before the best missions in the entire cod franchise imo. Once you go through the entire game you have to go through the entire end credits because there is a special movie at the end.
The main menu music already tells you what to expect, this game is more like a horror version of a ww2 story telling instead of the usual hero story that most ww2 games had.
This is my favorite call of duty game. This game covers the US Pacific Theatre and the Eastern Fronts of WW2. The game really captures the brutality and carnage of the Second World War.
Giving me ptsd remembering completing this on veteran difficulty and the infinite enemy spawn and Grenada spam. Still one of the best campaigns across the entire series though
A timeless game. Doesn’t need a remaster, it stands on its own just fine imo. It’s older feel and jank adds to its identity. Washed out colors and a brutalist color correction. Perfection with an amazing score on top of it all.
If you want a great movie about the attack of Pearl Harbour, i would recommend the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!". The name of the movie is a real phrase the Japanese pilots who attacked the harbour used to signal to the Japanese high command they had successfully made it to the harbour, and they are beginning the attack. This was the first radio transmission they made since they took off so they could maintain radio silence.
I guess because I played this campaign so many times already that the violence on display doesn’t really affect me. Your genuine reactions actually made me reflect on that. I hope you’re enjoying the game though.
This game, along with the Medal of Honor series, got me into learning about WW2 and history in general. I think it's because wanting to know why full-scale conflict like the world wars even started perplexed me as a kid. It was insane to me that tens of millions of people would be lost to conflicts that didn't even last a decade. World at War was the last Call of Duty that paid genuine homage to veterans and kept a degree of historic authenticity. Is this game historically accurate? Not really. But it definitely is authentic. Back when game developers could actually make good games.
Around the time this game came out, I remember a kid I went to school with had this joke: "How do you turn a Type 100 into a Type 99? Fire one bullet." Kids used to talk about WW2 guns. How times have changed.
The intro always gives me chills the fact American war industry got to 200 something percent and PA produced more steel in 4 years than Germany did the whole war
The song you thought was recognizable was actually the menu theme for zombies as well. A few of the songs from Nazi zombies carried over to BO1 zombies mode. Probably the most notable is the round change song also known as Hells Gate. You might have also noticed when that song was playing though that the Nazi general that was walking around actually share the same character model as Richtofen from Nazi zombies. Zombies was a developer side project that only came to WaW because the devs thought it was fun when playing around with the new AI system.
The character models for the Ultimis Zombies characters were reused. Richtofen = General Amsel, Dempsey = Pvt. Polonsky, Nikolai = Pvt. Chernov, Takeo = default Japanese Officer.

One of my cousins saw combat in the Middle East. Came back with some ptsd. Though my understanding, not as bad as some. I never saw him get triggered, but my other cousin told me about a time or 2 during family gatherings. As for games like this, he did love/play games like battlefield and CoD. I asked how he is playing those games, and he said he can usually handle it, but sometimes he does have to take a break from it. He is medically discharged, so he never had to go back.

If you want to see how bad The war was the Marines The Japanese the miniseries the Pacific shows the exact horror of it. It's an amazing show similar to Band of Brothers
There was supposed to be a British campaign in WaW where you played as the SAS so alot of stealth but it ultimately got cut because of time and it not meshing with the games overall dark tone but some of those ideas and assest got transferred to Black Ops 1 in the Russian mission.
Got to say young me was absolutely yelling along with my television because Jack Bauer was my commanding officer lmfao. I loved the show 24 and Kiefer Sutherland is great
If you ever decide to play it again.. There is a MASSIVE secret/easter egg on the mission where you land at the beach. You can get a very special and OP weapon.

Soldiers and Marines are different but it’s fair that people who don’t know any better get them confused. They both conduct a majority of all ground warfare operations. The largest difference is that the army is setup for sustainment in large scale warfare while the marines are an invasion force whose job is to clear a path for all friendly forces. The marines clear a path so the army can fight the long fight. In modern military operations both branches often fought together.

Great, brutal game! The best COD. Thank you for the upload. This game has Co-op Campaign, Zombies, multiplayer and a amazing single player campaign.
Thank you for bringing World at War. Excited for the next video!
One of the best, if not, THE best campaign of the COD series. I still play it and I've learnt more about history from playing these campaigns of COD 1, 2, 3 and WaW AND Black Ops!
for me its one of the best cod this game is a masterpice
Note: Also don't forget to collect an 13 "Death cards of fallen soldiers trough the game" ❤️🔥🗿👍
Note: But wait until u reach the "The ❤️ of the Third Reich" and hear this notifications "Granades in the area" 💀💀🗿😂😂🔥
Havent touched Call of Duty for years but I for sure Im down to follow you on your journey cuz ur awesome c: 💛
World at war is amazingly immersive and evocative. Wait till the zombies come. Lol
Great game!
Gary Oldman did so well as Reznov. I loved him as Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour.
Giving me ptsd remembering completing this on veteran difficulty and the infinite enemy spawn and Grenada spam. Still one of the best campaigns across the entire series though
I lost my shit when you said "Uh oh, I usually doom people when I say that"
The fucking timing on that is unreal
I couldn’t believe it 🤣
I love this call of duty, The campaign is amazing. I'd say its probably the best world war cod that has been released :)
This campaign had me in a chokehold as a kid I play this like 50 times I was so invested in this especially because it’s based off historical things
A timeless game. Doesn’t need a remaster, it stands on its own just fine imo. It’s older feel and jank adds to its identity. Washed out colors and a brutalist color correction. Perfection with an amazing score on top of it all.
Totally agree! It holds up really well.
Good play through, great content, I like how frequent you upload, keeps me entertained 😊like how your channel is growing too keep up the great work
If you want a great movie about the attack of Pearl Harbour, i would recommend the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!". The name of the movie is a real phrase the Japanese pilots who attacked the harbour used to signal to the Japanese high command they had successfully made it to the harbour, and they are beginning the attack. This was the first radio transmission they made since they took off so they could maintain radio silence.
I loved world history when it came to wars. From WW1, WW2 or even Vietnam. The campaigns were very accurate to what happened.
A girl playing one of the darkest game made, great job! Cheers from Italy 🇮🇹
I’m so here for this one. I can’t wait for her to beat the game too. If you know you know
I love this game. It has such a different atmosphere to any other Call of Duty. It's almost got a horror vibe to it.
Around the time this game came out, I remember a kid I went to school with had this joke: "How do you turn a Type 100 into a Type 99? Fire one bullet." Kids used to talk about WW2 guns. How times have changed.
one tip. m1 garand reload takes more time when you still have some bullets left.
My all time favorite Call of Duty.
Ah call of duty world at war, one of my favourite CoD games, I hope you enjoy it
The intro always gives me chills the fact American war industry got to 200 something percent and PA produced more steel in 4 years than Germany did the whole war
You're playing the best WW2 video game ever made, enjoy. The soundtracks are brilliant too.
LETS GOO , this was my first campaign I ever played and my favourite. It’s so brutal and amazing, I could’ve watched this part on twitch with the replay but I’ve waited for it to come here so I case I want to watch the next part soon, I can watch it on twitch 😂.
I'm so pissed youtube didn't give me a notification when this came out🤣 so excited for this
one on all time favorite call of duty games
I'm loving your halo playthroughs, but now you're doing call of duty?! You done made my day 🍿😂
I'm so glad you are enjoying!
Just stumbled across this channel and wanted to say I'm really enjoyong your gameplay and commentary 😊 although I did chuckle when you said near the end of Little Resistance, "I really like Sullivan"... I knew EXACTLY what was going to happen 10 seconds later
Welcome! Thanks for watching, glad you’re enjoying the vid. And yeah, RIP Sullivan😅 it has become a bit of a common occurrence in my playthroughs that any time I say I like someone, they soon die. It’s never been that quick though!🤣
Lucy! You’re Amazing!! I Hope you’re having a wonderful day!!!!
“Hey, this game is wild, right? But you love it because it’s so intense, and by the end, you’ll be shouting ‘uuuuurrrrraaa!’”
Do you know any relatives who fought in World War II?
My grandma's sister's husband my uncle Joe was in the Navy and barely survived the war when he got married and left the military
He lived from 1921 to 2019 such a good guy he was
Can’t wait until you get to the end of the campaign!
This is my favorite World War 2 video game ever made.
I have the Nintendo Wii version, with which I can aim with the Wii remote.
I never knew Reznov was in this game. I always thought World at war was a stand-alone game, didn’t realise it was linked with the black ops series. Makes sense though as same developer. Loving watching your videos. Discovered you through your Halo CE Playthrough
I don’t play cod anymore but I absolutely love world at war!
If you want to see how bad The war was the Marines The Japanese the miniseries the Pacific shows the exact horror of it. It's an amazing show similar to Band of Brothers
This & WW2 were the most challenging COD games you'll ever play
When I was a young kid I used wake up at 5:30 in the morning and play all of World At War
Northern Ireland accent (i think????). yeooooooooooo
Correct!
There was supposed to be a British campaign in WaW where you played as the SAS so alot of stealth but it ultimately got cut because of time and it not meshing with the games overall dark tone but some of those ideas and assest got transferred to Black Ops 1 in the Russian mission.
This is my favorite call of duty actually.
Got to say young me was absolutely yelling along with my television because Jack Bauer was my commanding officer lmfao. I loved the show 24 and Kiefer Sutherland is great
The cast is so good in this one!
If you ever decide to play it again.. There is a MASSIVE secret/easter egg on the mission where you land at the beach. You can get a very special and OP weapon.
For me this is the most represantation of war in all cod games. My favorite campaign
Such a great story, I was blown away.
My dad is a gulf war veteran so it will be interesting for me to dive into black ops 6
This is the best WW2 COD ever made! If they decide to do ww2 again it was to be something like this. Honest. Brutal. Gritty.
There's a great book "With the old breed" by Eugene Sledge. Its a very honest war memoir about a recruit from pelelieu to Okinawa. Not an easy read.
Helmet for my pillow is also a good read . It's Robert leckies account
One of the best COD games of all time
Hey lucy! How you doing? Yeah, world at war is a fan fav, mainly bc of dimitri and reznov imo, they’re the ones that made it to bo1.
Chyort might mean damn! Or f king hell
Funny that you tried to make halo trick shots in cod😂
And when reznov said chernov will walk always gets me😂
“I like Sullivan a lot” dies 2 seconds later 😭
😭
Hey, I subscribed. I love your content at the moment. I just watched all of your black ops videos
Hey! Thanks for watching, I'm glad you've enjoyed them.
My personal favorite cod game.
You seemed genuinely happy to see Reznov ❤😂
Nice to see a familiar face!
Glad to see people appreciate these relics of video games, do you plan to play the MW series? 2007-2011
